We bought a reconditioned power driver board for TZ at the Allentown Show. Husband just installed it & error report is saying,"Ground Short Row 1 is stuck closed" don't know what to do.

Good morning.
The power/driver board provides power for the switch matrix, and the -1 revision of that board has a couple of 4N25 opto-couplers that sense flipper switch closures. I didnt check to see if those opto-couplers could cause the proble, or if they are even on row one. All other switch matrix function resides on the MPU.

Does the driver board you purchased have the flipper relay on it...a 1" or so cube near the upper left? That would indicate a -1 revision.

Why did you need a new driver board?
What symptoms did the prior board exhibit?
Have you done any other work on the game just prior to this problem manifesting?

You can easily swap the new board with Adams family or such and see if the problem follows the board.

Husband put the old board back in & it works. So it is our new rebuilt board that has the issue.

Darlene,

Do you mean that the old board now allows the game to work 100%?
No resets?

Yes, I'd say there is a strong probability that your "refurbed" board has an issue.
The opto-couplers are on row 1 and 2...although I've never seen those fail in that way personally, I'd guess it's possible.

Yeah, the old board would shut down here and there, not all the time. It was starting to get worse so he basically stopped playing TZ knowing he was going to buy a new board when we were going to Allentown. Unfortunately for us Rottendog only brought 2 boards, so could not get it from them. He bought it from another vendor. We are going to reach out to the vendor who sold it to us next. It was sold to us as 100% working, it was not!

I have a couple suggestions for if you get a rottendog board. TZ is extrembly finiky so rottendog boards tend to reset in those machines. I'd avoid using rottendog in there. But you can put the rottendog in one of your other machines and move the stock board there.

To that end, I'd suggest taking the board that resets in TZ and putting it into Addams, t2 or Dirty Harry. Then put that board into TZ. Perhaps both games will work afterwards. All your games except afm and mm have the same power board as TZ.

We are not sure if our older board is a Rottendog, it is not marked as one. But we could try it anyway!

Whether its a rottendog or not has nothing to so with my suggestion. I only brought it up because you said you tried to buy a rottendog for your TZ - that would have been a problem. But putting it into any if those other machines would not be. And since TZ is slightly more finicky regarding resets, it doesn't hurt to try swapping the board with something else, preferably not a wide body. I suggest Addams or t2.

You can tell the difference by looking.

Update:
The vendor we bought the board from is standing behind his product and he is going to fix it.
Thank you all for your help. Thought we may have been able to fix it ourselves, luckly someone who knows what he is doing will be fixing it!
