has anyone ever rebuilt one of these driver boards without damaging half the vias in the process?
I'm not new to soldering, but these boards are very difficult to work on without damaging them further.
assuming your talking about a later WPC game.

Quoted from dsuperbee:

All the time. Just takes practice, and (imo) a desoldering station.

My first attempt a few years ago was using one of those cheap plastic pumps, that thing is a POS.
Then got a pace desoldering iron made a world of difference, can usually get most of them out now without messing them up. There is still that one in 10 that gets partially yanked out anyway. Started using eyelets to repair them, just super annoying is all. If anyone has a suggestions let me know. The only vids I could find on later wpc games don't really go into technique or the issues related to these specific boards.

Seems to be mainly those stubborn header pins, everything else slides out pretty easy.

Quoted from dsuperbee:

If you have an electronic surplus store near you, go,buy some junk boards and practice, practice, practice. I bought a box of them years ago when I decided to learn how to do board work. Yeah, I fucked up quite a bit, but as time went on, I got pretty good at it. Besides, if you mess up a 10 cent board, no big deal

I don't usually have issue with any other boards besides the ones from the ones from the early 90's. Guess I'm just going to have to go really really slow next time or something.

Quoted from robertmee:

Takes alot of patience, a good desoldering station, and for me lately, a headband magnifying kit. I've found that seeing 5x helps to finesse the boards better. Even then, I'll lift a through hole once in awhile.
As for Clay's guide, I used to do the shotgun approach more often than not. Now, not so much thanks to the sage advice of those professionals such as Hibler and Anthony. Less is more when it comes to board work.

appreciated, I'll keep experimenting.
I know its all about practice and there are a lot of nuances that are difficult to teach. Would of made things a lot easier if they made those holes slightly bigger.
