I just bought the ultimate MPU and ultimate driver board to replace my existing MPU and Driver board for my Bally Strikes & Spares. The game worked, albeit with flaky displays and locked on transistors, before removing the existing MPU (the existing MPU had acid damage and I was told its probably why some coils locked on. locked on coils have been disconnected). The game also has an aftermarket rectifier board with LED indicators for correct voltages from the transformer.

After adding both the MPU and Driver boards from Alltek, the game appeared to power on fine and the chimes went off. The displays were a bit off (missing the last digit) but I figured that might be a loose or poorly seated connector or wire. I played halfway through a game when the flippers died and the game stopped responding.

My Driver board is all green with the whirlwind lights working as they should.

My MPU board has 5v green, no overvoltage light, but the self-test light is always solid green and never flashes.

Quoted from phil-lee:

"Locked on coils disconnected"
I always repair obvious mechanical malfunctions, stuck switches, before anything else, MPU or EM.

Well, the reason I bought the new driver board is essentially it was easier that replacing the transistors on the existing driver board, that's why the coils were locked on. If I connect the knocker and left sling (the two locked on coils), they shouldn't be locked on anymore because the new board has new transistors.

Definitely glad I'm on this board; after testing the connectors it seems I do indeed have a bad connector that needs a repin. I've never done this but I'm willing to learn and try. What's the best place to buy a crimping tool and pins/connectors?

Quoted from Validpowerdetect:

Having overhauling a dozen or so of these early Ballys, I can tell you that the best thing you can do to improve reliability, is to completely re-pin them. And that includes the header pins on the boards. Especially the power supply, and MPU. Anything less, and you are wee-weeing into the wind.
Except for the burnt pwr supply ones, you can usually get away with re-using the old shells.

I bought new boards, so replacing the headers shouldn't be needed right?

Not my night tonight.

Tried to order from Great Plains; checkout is disabled because they're behind on orders.
Tried to order from Big Daddy Enterprises, shipping calculates to $22,000
