Anyone out there recognize the game in these photos? The name of the Three Stooges short is Three Smart Saps, filmed in 1942. It appears that the name Bally is on the upper right part of the playfield. Thanks for any help!

    Quoted from spfxted:

All this stuff is possible. Not sure they would make a custom game. They would usually just alter something existing.

Thanks guys for trying to identify this game, it would be great if we could figure it out. As far as Columbia Pictures involvement in securing a pinball machine, you have to know that the budget for a Three Stooges short was tight. Therefore, the studio would of grabbed whatever was available at the lowest cost. The only modification they would make would be to cover over a company name (like they did to the Keeney's Red Hot in Three Little Pirates) or adapt the lights in the backbox to flash/etc.
So, based on what we have so far, it's a Bally made prior to 1942. Knowing Columbia, they would of bought a used machine. Using the "Pirates" short as an example, the short was filmed in 1946 and they used a '41 Keeney. Keep trying guys, the answer is out there!

    Quoted from Darcy:

This looks like movie magic. The top photo shows a machine with wide wood rails, the rail does not touch the back box, it looks like there is a gap between the parts. The second picture shows a machine with smaller wood rails, that meet up with the back box.
The photo in KenLayton post, I think that is Groucho Marx. Maybe?

No movie magic, only one machine involved.

    Quoted from Sprout:

    My observations...
The game in the short has *three* bolts per leg; the vast majority of Bally stuff from that time seems to have *two* bolts per leg.
"Challenger" payout/one-ball play machine from 1936 was the only exception I found.. http://www.ipdb.org/showpic.pl?id=484&picno=3988
I dug through images of other pins from other manufacturers at the time, but don't see any other using three leg bolts.
Otherwise, clearly flipperless, and I think it's a single-ball game given how it's played in the short - think it's a payout machine?

Good eye on the 3 bolts on the legs, that does seem unusual. Hopefully this provides another clue to help identify this machine.

    Quoted from spfxted:

Nyuk, nyuk, nyuk...how far is it from Pinfest?

Less than one hour away. You can take the turnpike or 309 South. Easy ride, as it's almost an all highway trip. Well worth it, and not available anywhere else in the country! (or the world for that matter)

A new book on the boys and where they filmed their funny stuff in Hollywood back in the day. Available everywhere.
