Hi I am new to pinball machines and wanted to get 2 for my game room. I found a great dealer near me and have negotiated a price on 2 machines! I'm not to sure which ones to get, I've narrowed it down to these 4....little background...I have 3 girls ages 7, 9 & 11.

Pirates of the Carribean
Batman
Iron Man
Spider Man

Let me know what you guys think!

Thanks!

In order that I would buy with kids, I have 4 boys I have owned all of those pins and I still have SM,IM,BdK. It would be SM one of my favorite pins, then IM fast and fun pin, POTC I miss this pin, then BDK.

#3 12 years ago

Spider Man is the best choice for all. Noobs and youngin's can have some fun on it and more experienced players have some good depth to explore. POTC is an otherwise good choice but not if SM is available!

I'd stay away from ironman with young kids. It's too fast. Well, maybe start them out on a fast machine, now that i think of it. It may pay dividends in the end.

BDK i know nothing about.

#4 12 years ago

Dang! you found someone with a Spiderman. Grab it!

#5 12 years ago

the girls really want POTC....I have to give in on at least one....

Since you're new to pinball I have to ask.... What kind of prices on all those machines?

I think everyone on pinside would agree, as a first time buyer, from a dealer, we don't want to see you get ripped off.

Those are some strongly priced titles as-is and DO NOT want to see you pay PRIME retail...

#7 12 years ago

Spiderman, fer sur!

#8 12 years ago

not ironman??

#9 12 years ago

What are the prices?

under 10K for the 2...comes out of a collectors collection.

It's kinda unforgiving and fast for a noob. If you're buying two, i'd say that wouldn't be a bad second choice.

Alot of this depends on price and condition.

Under 10k for POTC and Spiderman?

He seems to be a reputable guy, have friends that used them. The machines are, according to him very clean. He's getting these from a client of his that needs the extra cash so I'm assuming a quick turn around. He originally quoted me 5k for the POTC and I negotiated the "under" 10K # with him for another.

#14 12 years ago

There are guys here that have MUCH more knowledge than me, but from what I've read Spiderman is a pretty hot machine and hard to find....AND great to play!

#15 12 years ago

FYI:
Nice Home Use Only (HUO) Pricing for these machines are:

~3500 = Pirates of the Carribean
~3500 = Batman
~3500 = Iron Man
~4500 = Spider Man

(Price Police don't worry, these are just ball parks for the OP)

#16 12 years ago

So I guess with the above being said, no matter which two you pick, make sure Spiderman is one of them....

#17 12 years ago

SM and POTC. It's a "no brainer" IMO. Iron Man a distant third and BDK in fourth. They are the most fun AND have the bonus of retaining their value.

My 2 cents

the pins he's selling me are commercial use...does that effect the price?

#19 12 years ago

Well, the condition is VERY important. The lower the condition, the lower the price. (except for AFM)

HUO = Home Use Only
It means used only in a house and not in an arcade. These are generally in MUCH nicer condition than ones that have spent 18+ hours per day turned on and beat up kids in an arcade.

Routed
It simply means it did what they were meant to do. They earned money at different locations.

I have seen routed examples that are REALLY nice and ones that are REALLY bad. It all just depends how they were maintained.

Make sure to look real closely around the playfield for any broken plastics as well. Sometimes, they can be tough to find and can help you possibly negotiate a better price as well.

(a full plastic set can be up to $200)

#21 12 years ago

Have you seen and played these machines?

#22 12 years ago

I haven't played them yet. I have seen other examples of machines that he sells and the ones I am buying are in equal condition, which they all looked perfect....the machines were in a private collection and never in an arcade.

#23 12 years ago

BDK & SM my vote.
IM doesn't do it for me, and i haven't played a ton of POTC but it seemed decent. I'm sure the kids love POTC though.

#24 12 years ago

SM and POTC, with kids this is easy decision

So, according to fattrain, about $8,000 or so should get the Spiderman and POTC. Are you in that neighborhood?

He stated 10k for two of them above. (which is why I said SM better be one of them)

EDIT: My Bad, he said Under 10k

#27 12 years ago

My bad! I thought he said under 10K...

#28 12 years ago

lol...as long as ONE of us is bad!

#29 12 years ago

So, is it safe to assume that if they are pretty perfect and not routed, he won't get hurt between $8,000 and $9,000

#30 12 years ago

1st choice from those with kids (especially the female variety!) would be PotC, then Spiderman...

Go for it!

Whoa, we almost have the same Karma!

That is a good skill building game, from what i hear. I have very limited time on one that was in bad shape, so i can't speak to that from personal experience.
