I want a third game. I won an Buck Hunt arcade in a sweepstakes that I plan on selling outright or trading for a pin.

The problem is, I want every game!

So here are some games that I am interested in based on theme:

WPT - love poker, used to be heavy into it both home games, casinos and online. I've read that it's super deep and I like that about it (never played one)

Getaway Highspeed II - I'm a Law Enforcement officer and I think this theme would be cool for me to own (never played one)

Elvis - live in Memphis and love the music of Elvis. Though the two Elvis' I've played have been heavily routed and very best up. The music has been hard to hear and the flippers weak. I expected to hear the actual songs during the game but they seem to be digital ringtone versions of the actual songs.

X-Men LE - to add to the marvel/superhero theme I've got going in my gameroom. I've only played an X-Men once at a show and I think it was a pro. Not sure. I like all the shots and modes that it seems X-Men has.

These are some of the games I'm interested in. I have ColorDMD in my two games and would prefer a third that is ColorDMD supported as well. My wife says getting some random themed game like WPT or Elvis clashes with my Marvel room.

Id also like opinions on what I should be paying for huo examples of these games. If anyone has ideas for me please let me know. I've been in this hobby for over a year now and I've learned a lot. I love to mod my games so would prob do that to any new game I get as well.

There isn't a huge variety of games to play here in Memphis. Nashville is about 2.5 hours and St. Louis is 6 and they both have a ton but I have a six year old and two month old and two jobs so free time away from the house is limited.

Thanks guys for reading and any help you can provide to help me make my mind up.

I think you are going to have a hard time getting the same amount for an arcade as you would fo rmost of those games on the list. Arcades are a tough sell.

#3 8 years ago

BBH. It will complete the set.

#4 8 years ago

we have a HS II;The Getaway, and love it. It gets as much play as our Walking Dead Premium. Although I'm not in law enforcement, I have ALWAYS wanted to run from them, LOL, and too smart to do it in real life, so I live through my pinball machine.

best of luck with your decision!

Sure sure. This particular arcade is 5k. I'd sell it (I may have a buyer already interested in it) for less than that or like I said, trade it plus some cash for a pin I want. I'm sure someone who routes games would be interested in it. That's not really the point here. Based on the two games I have, my obsession with superheroes and Marvel and my inability to say no to a mod, what would be a good third game?

Oh and this is what I won:

Haha I played one once. Not a hunter as evidenced by my lack of desire to keep the arcade I won. But funny suggestion.

Haha mind telling me what you paid for your HS II? Wanna sell it despite its popularity at the house?

X-Men LE - to add to the marvel/superhero theme I've got going in my gameroom.

Since you like super heroes, like I do, I would suggest either the X-men LE or new SM coming out with comic art. XM software is fun and has a lot of great super hero modes. It can be picked up pretty cheap now, so I wouldn't worry about depreciation.

The biggest knock is the wolverine bash toy, I don't think it is a big deal, but if you don't like it there are a bunch of different mods, like the captive ball mod. The spinning disc multiball, LEDs, and pop up nightcrawlers make the LE better in my opinion.

SM is one of my all time favorite flow machines. Rumors from a lot of people say it will be comic based instead of the movie based one currently out there. If the art is great, like XM, then that would fit well with your theme. It is a great layout and fun game.

#8 8 years ago

X-men is awesome game, shots are tight though so non pinheads mite not like it because you have to stop the ball a lot before the next shot to make the game really sing, but you also have wolverine bash toy in close which can start a multiball quicker for non players to keep them interested and for the players its not that easy to get him on your team so the shots take longer for him to activate weapon x multiball the second or third time depending if you have finished the mode, it gets a lot of bad press, the wolverine but I actually like where its placed because strategically you can stack him just after you start a villain mode. I totally love mine an would recommend it , it really is kick ass, I have a getaway to, its a cool game, personally think x-men is on another level..

#9 8 years ago

How cool is that! Congrats! I still like you even though you have horrible taste in beer.

Xmen is a good pin and would go great with IM ans TAV. Waiting for SM VE could be worth while. SM is a great game, but has long playtimes and that may not be so bad with IM's short games. Man my HS2 is fun and a great cop chase game.
HS2 has nice bright red colors that could fit in with your Marvel room nicely for a while. HS2 is kind of like IM for me. Easy rules with some fast and fun modes and you just keep hitting start again and again! Elvis is alright, but may be hard to find in nice shape and if it is in nice shape is it worth $3500-$4000 for how well it plays?

How anout acdc? It is fast and fun with great rules. I did not like it for a couple of months, but now I love it better than........IM?

If you want to sell BH maybe ask the company that is sending the game to you if they want to buy it? I would not open it to try out, but just sell it NIB. Let us know what happens. Happy New Year!

#10 8 years ago

that is a much better and newer version than I envisioned. Nice score. But you better move it quick. Arcades lose value almost as fast as new cars.

The way you describe X-Men, it reminds me of Avengers (having tight shots, having to trap and aim each shot).

X-Men is a strong candidate as the next pin as it fits in so well in the Marvel room but it's price pushes what I want to spend. The new SM comic version (if real) would also fit in perfectly but it's price would exceed the value of the arcade.

Acdc is another one that not only does the wife like, which is huge, but also is ColorDMD ready and an awesome game. But it's climbing price (for a premium) is too high for me right now.

HS II is a strong candidate for me. What's a good price for one? Wanna sell me yours haha

And yea, I won't be opening the arcade out of the box. It'll stay on the pallet it comes on.

#12 8 years ago

Hs2 average $2000
+\- 500 based on condition

#13 8 years ago

Sell TAV and get Xmen and get HS2

#14 8 years ago

I pick WPT. Although it was a hard choice. You have great taste in games.

#15 8 years ago

I'm going to look at a WPT today but it's been routed and in a warehouse for two years. He said its dirty, needs new rubbers and some bulbs. He's asking $2500 but I'd like to get it lower than that.

I'd prob pay that for a great condition HS II though.

Without question pick up this game. It is my number two or three ranked of all time.

The game had some early bad press due to bad code but the code is complete and awesome now. The game is deep, you have to be a monster player to get through the entire thing.

Another game I think you should consider is Star Trek. It pairs very well with Iron Man and Avengers as the game play is very different from those two games.

#18 8 years ago

Haha thanks Erik, you selling anything I've mentioned?

Thanks Tigerlaw for your input

#19 8 years ago

Nope I think the X-Men LE at game galaxy might be for sale tho. It's a pretty fun game. The shots are kind of odd but I really like the rules

#20 8 years ago

Based on your games, mods, and theme, I'd go with XM or SM. Many will sell SM when the VE is announced.

HSII is an awesome game, but tough to find in great condition. I sold one several months back that was in excellent condition with many mods, but those are few and far between.

Thanks. The way people describe SM, it might be a good fit but man that new comic art/dots/call outs sound so cool. If nothing pops up (HS II, XMen or if this WPT today is in awful shape) then I may sell the BBH arcade, save a bit and buy a SMVE either NIB or slightly used once they become available.

#24 8 years ago

Also X-men is a excellent choice, if you consider value for money, WPT would be my first suggestion.

Own this game for over two years, never could approach the final wizard mode, even with extra balls allowed (but I play with wide-open outlanes). The game is really ultra well-thought, and you have plenty of ways to approach it. Should you focus on the cities or on the hands? Multiball? Or play the modes? Chip tricks seem useless until you realize you can score a lot. Hurry ups? Yeah... Use your 3x option wisely!

In other words, this is best balanced ruleset I know. Shots are tight, you can backhand a few of them and I guess the best strategy depends on how reliable you are with each shot.

Keeping in mind 1) I hate poker 2) I find the artwork horrible 3) I am biased towards upper playable PF (and that one really is!)

#25 8 years ago

I will answer your question with a recent photo from my own game room

comic_3_(resized).jpgcomic_3_(resized).jpg

#26 8 years ago

WPT is the one game you mentioned I have very little experience with. But, of the games I know, Spider-Man would be my first choice. X-Men LE is really good too. I have the Getaway and it's really fun, though very shallow if you're worried about such things. The Getaway is available on the Pinball Arcade app if you want to check it out, although it's just a sampling of what you'd get in real life because of physics, feel, etc.

#27 8 years ago

What are X-Men LEs going for these days? $5K range?

#28 8 years ago

I have to echo Geocab's response... I had HSII for a while. It's fun...but it does kind of end up being a one trick pony...not to say it isn't a game that you should add, play, and enjoy...but something to consider.

#29 8 years ago

I need to check out Getaway on the app. Yea I figured XMen LEs were around 5k depending on the mods and prob location of sale. WPT seems like a deep game at a bargain price.

Everyone's been very helpful at confusing the shit out of me. Haha. I'll post pictures when I pull the trigger on my third game.

#30 8 years ago

I am in law enforcement as well and I have owned HSII twice. It is a fun game, not good as an only pin, and unfortunately that is when I owned it. In your collection I think it would fit just fine.

#31 8 years ago
Quoted from Grinder901:

There's a lot of rules to that game..... and the prices are still low. It won't look as nice as Xmen will next to your other two, but its a great game (mine is hiding in another row, away from the Marvel pins)

Just for information purposes I recently sold my real nice Getaway for $2800 in one day and had two more people lined up behind the one that did buy it......guessing I could have gotten a little more.

#33 8 years ago

There's bound to be a few outliers

#34 8 years ago

Thanks Astro. I just checked out your thread and yea it looked pimped out and beautiful.

I played on a local Getaway during lunch that was eh kinda rough around the edges but man it was fun! I'll bet one actually taken care of and dialed in would scream. Love that theme

Also played a local WPT for sale but man it was in worse shape than the Getaway. It would take work, time and money to get it looking good and I'd rather just spend the money on a well kept game instead.

Thanks for your help today Richard!

Oh and this is what I won:

Cool! If you were local to me I'd already be working out a deal for my HS2 with you. I have loved the game, but I think it is getting close to 5 years that I've had it.

If you were going against the Super Hero collection, I'd say Tron. It is a great game. But if you want to stick with a Super Hero, then X-Men Pro. I lean towards the Pro on that game. But take that with a grain of salt, because there are a few games I like the Pro better (Transformers, Mustang, GoT).

#36 8 years ago

1 WPT
2 xmen LE
3 Elvis

I would take the WPT anyday...great game !!!

Thanks, a local bud who is way more knowledgable commented today that he also like the Pro over LE due to the moving bridge but he did say he loved the Magneto LE art package.

And damn, thanks for the tease. Yea I wished you were closer too.

#38 8 years ago

Getaway is ColorDMD supported. Although for any DMD that isn't supported yet, you can just get the Sigma version. It's one color that you can change to what you want, and you can do hi-def, or dots, etc. Then if they support whatever game you buy the Sigma for, you can download the ROM and you're now upgraded to full color.

#39 8 years ago

Out of that list I would go for X-men.

I've got an IM and an Avengers at my house. Both get played a lot. Next out my house played as much as those two would be my Met. Since it isn't on your list I vote for X-men since it's the one I desire the most next. I have a ST and if my wife would let me, I would trade it away for an X-men in a heart beat. Just can't get into it as much as others do.

I like X-men because it has some great flow but also has those stop and breath moments. I prefer the Pro though but would go for an LE at the right price. I just hate the LE Iceman ramp. It comes in handy during the game sometimes but it just doesn't please my eye.

I like WPT but it's a bit to stop and go for my liking. Some really cool rules though. HS2 is great as well but just not deep enough to keep me engaged for very long. Great for a larger collection though.

#40 8 years ago

That new spidey will be cool next to the avengers an ironman.

#41 8 years ago

Yes it would. Old Spidey wouldn't be so bad either

#42 8 years ago

You need Spidey in your life, Grinder!

#43 8 years ago

You are a good player though and SM games are long. Your wife and kids would like it though.

#44 8 years ago

Haha you guys are the best. Once this arcade gets here and gets sold, I'll have money burning a hole in my pocket.

Then it'll be a pin on my list in great condition and close so I can go see it and play it that will take said money.

I disabled the moving ramp on my game, it's in the settings and instantly solves the issue entirely.

Go LE on XMen for sure. Nightcrawler is cool. The spinner is awesome. The art package with the mirrored back glass (note I said backglass and not translight, XMen LE has a real mirrored backglass and not just the mirrored ink on a translight line the current stern LEs).

Also, go Wolverine version. You have a super hero collection. The wolverine LE is filled with the heros.

Suggestion: BoP

Let me explain... You like nice games, but you also like to mod & tinker around. There are repro parts readily available for BoP: playfield, ramps, plastics, backglass, cab decals, etc. You can take a beater and make it an essentially brand new game.

If you decide you dig the game, add BoP 2.0 with DMD and a brand new rule set.

I'm thinking of doing the same thing after GB.

#48 8 years ago

Xmen LE or pro.

For the value I would go with the pro.
I had a magneto LE and sold it to buy an IMVE.
Glad I did. But Xmen is still good has a lot going on . Just not my type of game. The ball times were just way too long. I'm starting to feel the same about my ST pro.

But xmen LE is a good game I just feel like the moving ramp color changing G.I. and pop up nightcrawlers really aren't that great. The spinning magneto disk is cool but for the price difference I don't think it's worth it. And I think the wolverine art isn't as nice as the pro. But magneto version looks the best.

The pro has great art. You might be able to get a xmen pro for your Buck Hunter machine straight up. If you could get a deal like that it would be worth it.

#49 8 years ago

Seriously guys. Some great ideas.

I don't know jack shit about BOP or BOP 2.0 but I'll look into it.

Honestly, I do like the X-Men Pro artwork. I guess I'm a sucker for bells and whistles so the LE attracts me. Decisions!!! I've reached out to a bunch of XMen LE owners and no one wants to sell. Not locally anyway. Maybe I should ask some Pro owners.

I'm kind of obsessed with Getaway: HS II right now. I'm a cop and I think it's a cool and fun theme and game. I downloaded the game and have been playing it a bunch. Most games are faded and beat up. I'll prob spend a ton of time and money putting on new cabinet decals, mods like ColorDMD and maybe even a new playfield depending on the condition.

The arcade I won should be here soon and I can't wait to get it and sell/trade it for a pin or some money.

HS2 is a great choice. Repro playfields are spendy but plastics and decals are available. Mods are few (mountain, donut heaven) but tasteful. Fun game.
