Hello,
My LAH suddenly went dead and Im having a hard time figuring out what went wrong.

Was working 100 percent, went to turn on and I get no Dot matrix, GI is on, Feature lights kind of flicker on, crane motor turns on, coils randomly fire.

Removed the two lower left connectors from cpu board to stop coils from firing.
I checked all fuse clips, one was previously repaired, fixed it again to be sure.

I am getting NO cpu lights coming on at when I power up the machine.

Not very experienced with DE games, does anyone have any ideas where I can look next?

Hi, Thanks for the advice.

Fuses are good. I did find the f5 was overfused, replaced all with proper fuses.
12 pin connector looks fine, no signs of heat. Line voltage is ok.

I tested the 5v on the test points and read about 1v.

I will take a look at the capacitor, I will research how to test them.
Has new batteries.

Game has not seen a ton of work, I have had it for about a year and have had only minor issues. magnet board transistors was the only non working thing when it was purchased.

Recently re soldered the crane release coil, played several games all was good.
The non booting and no power to CPU is sudden and unexpected.

Thanks again

Update
I got it to boot!

But now the display only displays the rom version number? No gameplay graphics.

Game will start but it just keeps showing the display rom version every few seconds.

For my boot issue I was lame... I started with c2 cap and tested and it did not work so I replaced almost all of the other caps on the board including the bridge.
Turns out the real problem was c2 not making good connection on positive side.

Did I screw something up with my display?
Anybody else experience this or something like it?

Thanks!!

Hello,

I am at my wits end with this one. I am now facing a machine that wont fully boot at all again.

GI comes on, CPU lights are on 5v, blanking.

Display shows version number then goes blank. Machine will not respond to anything.

Question:

Does the fact the version number displays on the DMD mean that the high voltage is working?

Am I dealing with a communication error somewhere? Bad Display Rom?

Any help would greatly appreciated, I miss this game badly.

Thanks!

Update: problem fixed!

Machine fully boots display working, everything back 100 percent.

What I believe brought it out of the half boot situation was reseating, cleaning the display rom socket.
This is something I had done a couple times, but without really touching anything else this seemed to bring the machine back.

To sum up what I did:

Initial problem, missing 5V
This was simply the C2 capacitor had corroded the trace on top of the board, which appears to be the common problem. I replaced all of the caps on the board, but this was not necessary, C2 was the only culprit for the missing 5V

After getting CPU board to boot I was only getting the revision number on the display, and game refused to boot fully.
carefull inspection and re seat of display rom brought the machine back.

thanks for everyone who chimed in, it really helped me keep going.

Now Im going to go play my LAH
