When I power up there is a loud buzzing sound around the flipper area & then the F5 fuse on the PPB board blows every time...F5 is for flipper power & 50V coils. Any suggestions as to how I should troubleshoot?

When did this happen, were you working on or around any of the coils? If so you may have miswired something, If it happened spontaneously then you need to start disconnecting plugs till you find what is blowing the fuse. Also do any of the coils fire when the game is turned on? I'd look at flipper coil's diode and then the transistor (Tip36).

Quoted from kvan99:If F5 is blowing on start up without starting a game and activating the flippers..I'd look at flipper coil's diode and then the transistor (Tip36). Here is a good thread to get you started:

Damn...pretty much perfect answer....sounds like your coil is being energized at start up. Very typical of a bad transistor.
Try a new fuse, and remove the connectors inside the cabinet to the flipper control board.. Sometimes a problem with that board can cause an issue like that.
