They should have been inspired by this...

To me it looks like Smaug may have been initially designed to shoot balls out (as it SHOULD have been), the tongue is flat and sloped, the pile of gold is like a bib to allow any "dribble" balls to roll to the playfield and of course no teeth because some of those would just get shot off (and then you would be left with a "redneck" looking Smaug)...
Smaug needs a makeover... If he is not going to shoot flaming balls of fire then I like the ideas of a full bodied dragon, him sleeping then waking up, one claw diverting balls from the wire form, tail diverting at the double ramp, being able to shoot him somehow...Make the eyes glow...there is a ton of stuff that can be done to make this better...good ideas with the rotating Dwarf city also...
Fix Bagend area. If you really like the book, put it over the ball shooting lane...movie starts there, ball starts there...
Third flipper...If that third flipper has nothing unique to shoot for, take it out and add another shot (but not another drop target for goodness sake).
Quoted from HoakyPoaky:I love how everyone thinks that 3rd flipper is pointless. Do you know how the upper flipper will be implemented into the game code? When it might be active or when the lower flippers are disabled? Perhaps it's used in conjunction with the kickback on a windlance killshot? Sometimes things are not as simple as they appear, especially when Keith Johnson is programming.
Note, I said "...IF that flipper has nothing UNIQUE to shoot at..."
I understand what you're saying and those would be a "unique" features for the flipper.
I'm just saying that if it does nothing special then what is the point...but it's there, so it must do something special...right?
Now somebody throw in an Arnold Schwarzenegger quote...
