Without bells and chimes it's not an EM.

The Space Mission I just bought had some kind of 1970's mickey mouse circuit board to make what was supposed to sound like space sounds, but really sounded like a cat in a blender. If the same thing was made today I realize it would sound incredible, but if I wanted those sounds I'd buy a DMD.

Just bought a chime unit of Ebay and that board and speaker is headed for the parts locker.

I'm sure someone else might want it for their Space Mission because it is a part of history and was an early attempt at cool sounds.

I think EM enjoyment revolves around competition and the quest to "roll over" the score. It hearkens back to the days when games were quick (thus 5 balls), and enough randomness to level out the playing field. As others have mentioned, it's really not much fun to go head to head on LOTR or SM, and they don't make the best tournament games for the same reason. However EMs are a blast to play in a tournament... you have that "one more game" feeling because the top score is just that close. I would like to see new random/quick pins be developed by someone, as the few that come close at all are very popular amongst collectors and players.

Funny... Had exactly the same board on my Space Mission. A real disaster. Had to pay $$ to get a chime (mine was long gone...)
