I just picked up a couple games that were in a restaurant fire. The games play fine. What have you guys used to remove the smoke residue from the cab and insides? Thanks.

    #2 1 year ago

Hope you got a smoking deal ?

post a pic how bad are they ?

Soapy water first then some Sprayway Crazy Clean is one option.

It’s made for smoke damage. Buy at auto parts store; Amazon it’s way over priced.

I've never done house fire smoke but I've had excellent success cleaning cigaratte smoke smell and residue out of cabinets inside and outside with... Gojo Hand Cleaner. You need to make sure it is the original forumula. It is what I primarily clean my playfields with (but test a small area first to make sure you have the right kind.

    This stuff.

It will be half the price of amazon if you pick it up at your local auto parts store or hardware store.

Ozone generator in sealed room is the only sure thing. Will also quickly age rubber rings.

You are in good shape, I worked on a Taxi that went through a fire, much worse. What did you pay for them? Aside from the cosmetics, do they smell like smoke?

Are the backbox plastic panels melted?

They reek of smoke. I opened them up today to help fumigate.

They reek of smoke. I opened them up for the first time today to help fumigate. Yes the plastic speaker panels melted. I got one for SOF but can't find a Rollergames one anywhere.

I like Krud Kutter. Picked up another gallon today and diluted it goes a long way. $18.46 at home Depot. $25 at Walmart or Amazon

Try a bag of basic charcoal briquettes for a couple of weeks inside the closed cabinet with glass on. Wrap in plastic if need be on the head. I bought a Jurassic that wreaked of Cigarette smoke. The charcoal open bag did the trick.

    #13 1 year ago

I ended up ordering these. Gonna put a bag in the cabinet and one in the backbox and wrap them. I’ll report back how it works. I assume this method would be good for all soets of nasty smells we find in pins.

This is a great option, tool rental places have these machines. My neighbor had a fire a I let him store stuff that was damaged in the fire in my garage. After the stuff was out my garage smelled like it was on fire, I through one of these machines in there and 24 hrs later the smell was gone.....make sure the room is sealed and your not in it.

It will also age the wiring coating, and maybe start to compromise every connector in your pinball, ozone O3 is very corrosive. Definitely last resort on a pinball!

Soap, water and airing out time are my first attempts. Clean EVERY part. If that doesn't get the machine to where I can live with the faint odor of smoke, I strongly consider whether I want to choose this pinball to repair.

While waiting for the activated charcoal bags to arrive, I started cleaning. First with Dry clean gum rubber sponges to remove loose soot, then a rag with purple power. It is really taking it off. Just a LONG process.

WIP/anecdotal but if you can't get the smell out maybe it will help.

I have a machine that spent most of it's life in a cigar bar. After tearing it down and cleaning everything it looked fine. The old tobacco smell was reduced but still detectable. While I've been working on the boards and sourcing a few parts the last few months it's been sitting in the garage with an open bag of charcoal sitting in the cab with the playfield lowered. Pulled the charcoal out 2 weeks ago and now that the charcoal smell has dispersed I can't smell the old smoke smell either.

I've been thinking about soot/smoke removal, and I'm excited to try Sprayway Crazy Clean.

Next time I'm dealing with brown smoke streaks/soot, I think I'm going to get my air compressor near, and use Easy-Off oven cleaner. Brief application, don't let it sit, and blow it out of the crevasses and inserts with my air compressors compressed air.

I'm going to test it where I can't do visible damage, but I'm wondering if it wouldn't loosen that soot and break down the brown smoke residue.

Of course, it might mess with the plastics, and I'm thinking more about inside the cabinet and maybe the underside of the playfield. Top of the playfield and playfield parts and ramps I'm thinking of more conventional methods (Soap and water and Novus #2).

Good luck, that machine is pretty compromised, but it's better than the total loss that I picked up from a bar that had a fire recently!

The underside of the playfield looks pretty clean still, are you doing anything to tear it down and clean coils, drop target banks, etc.?

Yes I'm taking everything apart, cleaning, and reassembling. Everything works, just nasty. The smell is almost gone.
