Purchasing a machine abroad and looking for some info/help! When you have a machine shipped back to the US are you required to pay taxes since it's an item that was manufactured in the US! I am being advised that I need to have a "proforma invoice" filled out. This appears to be a form that would be used to charge me tax on the value of the machine. ANY INFO is appreciated on this process!

No taxes. Taxes have already been paid both ways. All you need is an official receipt. You just go over the border and thats it.

Okay so me putting the actual value of machine is not going to impact me negatively at all?

Nope...the taxes where already paid. Maybe an American can chime in here...but there are plenty of threads about this already. Just do a search for customsor somsething like that.
Cheers.

The last 2 machines that I had shipped from Germany to the US... I ended up receiving a State Tax bill in the mail months later. This was reported to the state by customs and the bill was formulated on the declared value of the shipment.

If it's international yes...if he's driving up to canada to pick it up ...no.
