Hello all and thank you for joining my High Speed restoration adventure!

I have only had 2 machines my whole life, this one being my 2nd and a hook my first. I bought this in a barn find and it was in pretty rough shape. Had a funky smell for quite some time... After a F TON of elbow grease and cleaning product, I have gotten it reasonably clean and what not.

I'll ramble on below, but here is what I need help with:
-I rebuilt the pop bumpers, they work, but are not very "sensitive" And I need help figuring out how to "tune them"
-I replaced the battery holder and there was some acid damage, not horrible... but ever since doing so, it doesn't seem to play as much "music" for example, when you died before the fix, it would play the tunes for some time. Now when you die on last ball, and match is done, it shuts down no music or noise.
-This is the big one, The old displays were in horrible shape, I just got done replacing them with brand new PINSCORE ones and now they still have a "dead line" through them, when I do a display test on the new board, everything lights up just fine. They still work way better than the old ones but anywho. HALP!

Really with these 3 things fixed I can call it pretty much a day and this thing is rock solid!

Stuff that I have done so far:
Disassembled and cleaned the entire playfield and waxed
Replaced balls
Replaced all rubbers
Replaced all lights with LEDs
Rebuilt all 3 pop bumpers with fresh parts (I did not do anything with the spoon switches, just the pegs and bodies
Replaced AA battery holder and put fresh batteries in
Thorough cleaning of whole machine
Changed legs from old rusty ones to Powdercoated Yellow ones and added a drink holder

1) To get the pop bumpers to be sensitive can take some messing around. Vid has an excellent guide on rebuilding and dialing in pop bumpers:

https://pinside.com/pinball/forum/topic/vids-guide-to-rebuilding-pop-bumpers

That should have all you need to know about adjustment.

2) The "issue" of the game not playing the game over tune is something that can be done in the adjustment menu. You want to go to setting 48, which is game over music. You are looking for this to be on.

3) The issue of the displays missing a line may be an issue with either cables going from the display board to the displays, the cable going from the CPU to the display board, or may be a result of battery damage as the display circuitry is in the immediate area of where the batteries were mounted on the CPU. Test the displays using the display test function through the game, not using the pinscore displays

If you have not done so already visit ipdb.org as the manual is available for download which has a wealth of information in it, and don't be afraid to post any questions in the HS club here on pinside. Some members know HS inside and out

Awesome thanks for the reply! I tried checking that setting and it is turned on for the music. When I got a high score it played and kept playing. However whenever I die regularly without a high score it just cuts out. This changed once I had batteries back in it and soldered a new holder piece into the board.

I'll mess with the bumpers later.
I tried wiggling the cables a bit and have "gained" an extra line on the displays. Do they sell new ribbon cables? I'm almost wondering if those should be replaced as well.

You can try reseating all the ribbon cables to clear up the sound and display issues. Sometimes a little corrosion or dust builds up in the connections and reseating or gently cleaning the metal poles can help. For new ribbon cables you can try https://www.greatplainselectronics.com/

Good luck!
