Hi guys. So a few weeks ago I bought a 1976 Bally Old Chicago. I've been enjoying it a lot lately and today I decided to get around to cleaning up the playfield, replacing some burnt out lights, and putting new rubbers on it....bad idea.

So first I had to get the playfield glass off, which was a giant pain and I had to use suction cups. Eventually after replacing the lights and the rubbers I went to turn on the machine....and now I am having all kinds of issues with the sound and scoring. When I turn the machine on now it emits a low constant humming sound and when I turn it on it dings (not normal). Also It doesn't let me play the first ball it goes straight to the second one. The back lights are now constantly on, also not normal and many of the sounds are not working on the playfield and some of the scoring is not working.

I'm pretty discouraged right now tbh. I was hoping this would be a fun, easy Saturday project and my knowledge of pins is very limited. I was wondering if anyone had any advice.

Welcome to Pinside

You may have better fortune posting in he EM (electromechanical) Tech boards of this forum (them guys may not see a post in generic tech sections) https://pinside.com/pinball/forum/forum/electro-mechanical

here is a great video of getting into a pinball machine http://www.pinrepair.com/em/index1.htm#empartsvideo as part of an initially overwhelming amount of help: http://www.pinrepair.com/em/index1.htm

It sounds like you simply have a stuck play-field switch causing a bell coil to stick ... see what point increment is affected ( 1 point switch , 10 point switch , 100 point switch then manally try all the switches to see what one is stuck )

what area do you live , there are some pinball shows in the New England area USA with many hobbiests attending

chas10e Thanks for the reply. I am in a smallish midwestern city (but big enough to have an active community of hobbyists). I asked on reddit as well and it seems the consensus is that a stuck playfield switch is causing the problems (I think it is the 10 point one, those ones do not register points or make sounds).

I'm a total noob when it comes to this stuff so even making adjustments to a playfield switch seems daunting to me. I might ask someone who knows what they're doing to take a look and maybe help show me the ropes when it comes to adjusting switches. I am curious if you have any idea what I should be paying to have someone help me out in this way?

Thanks again!
