Nice idea! Tricky with today's technology, but Samsung (and others?) have pre-production roll-up screens that they've been demoing at trade shows for a couple of years. Give it time and the roll-on magnet side art could very well have an active display built in!
Homepin had electro-luminescent (glowing) paint on the side art for the pre-production Thunderbirds I saw a few years back. Problem is that it creates a huge amount of EM noise, so it might not have made it past the pre-production models. Not as neat as a full display, but blinking elements on the otherwise static artwork looked pretty cool.
