I've already done a forum search, and tried to reach out to people who it seemed like have done this, but I haven't heard anything back.

So - I'm wondering - have you moved a game with PODS, or a similar competitor? I have a cross country move coming up, and trying to figure out if this is a viable safe option to move with.

I moved my games from New Mexico to Ohio using PODS. (Games were not the only thing occupying).

It really relies on your packing abilities as far as how the games will come out.
Ours ended up fine - also you have to even out the load of the pod so the crane can pick it up properly. Not a bad idea to toss some dehumidifying bags in the pod as it gets kind of muggy. Also the tie down situation in there is lacking. I think the move only took 6-7 days for the pod. I also did not have them ‘store’ the games for any additional time.

Appreciate the insight, and yes I noticed the lack of tie down options after digging through some youtube videos.

The plan is to pack these super well - batteries out, heads all off, everything wrapped in packing blankets and then shrink wrapped. They'd likely be sitting for approx 2 months, which I think is my biggest concern. I need them to store as we won't have an immediate address for them to be shipped to.

Frankly, I'm at a loss for how to move these in a more cost effective manner than with pods.

Moved from Washington State tonNew Hampshire in PODS, 15 pins. Gotta really wrap them well, especially where head meets siderails (it’ll want to come loose). Bigs comment about throwing in some dehumidifier bags is sound, those pods get super hot. We had to store the pods for 30 days. Pins survived, was the only cost effective way of moving a 5 bedroom house cross country. As said before, watch for level loading, don’t let things get too heavy in spots, and secure well, it’ll want to shift around. Good luck.

Ive also used pods to move across country. I had pins among other things. I agree with everyone, wrap and strap them really well.

Thanks, appreciate the encouragement and least some first hand evidence of them sitting for longer than a short period of time. Will definitely get some dehumid bags for the unit.

You had multiple pods I assume? Was one just for the games? It's also been very challenging to get PODS to supply accurate interior useable dimensions

Are the tie downs convenient? I've come across photos of units equipped with D rings...just wondering what I should prep for (ratchet straps, ropes - combination of both?

Appreciate all the tips and insight.

There are 4 decent rings to hook to on the floor of the one I had— and some screw hooks put in the ceiling and walls that weren’t worth much. I think a pod could hold maybe 8-10 games but not for certain it may go over the weight limit for the crane.
My pod was pretty pathetic as far as tie down points went- I used ratchet straps for the games. I wish a still had a photo to show but it would have been like a game then some some stuff like a mattress then the other game. Big Tetris kind of deal.

I saw the Internet picture of a nice white pod with d rings, I definitely didn’t have that mine was like this. 4 anchor points and a lot of these screw eyes that were cheap and not heavy duty.

The picture they show of a nice clean metal pod with d rings all over is DEFINITELY not what I got- others?

Yeah, I am going to try and get them to commit to the metal ones - because I have found that disparity too when searching for photos, and I feel especially uneasy about a glorified wooden box.

How long ago was your move? I found recent (<1 year old) youtube videos of the newer/steel ones, and older ones with the wood interior (approx 5-6 years old), so i wondered if it was a time thing in terms of the unit you got.

So how much does this cost on average? The PODs I've seen are fairly large and would make sense to move several games at once, but cost is a factor.

About one year ago to the day.

LOL yeah - you get what you get I guess. Did the wooden container feel sturdy?

For me, basically coast to coast, 16' container is around $4500 w/o storage - i.e. if you were going directly from one location (loading yourself), to another location (unloading yourself). They told me the coast to coast journey takes about 10 days, but they tend to try and allow for 14. I haven't done a pack drawing yet (still trying to get real interior dimensions) but my guess is you could probably pack 16-18 games in. I've got 8 games currently, maybe 9. That drawing will determine if I'm bringing #9, or unloading it before leaving.

Yes I believe it was a steel cap and steel bottom, wood all on the inside very similar to the Penske truck I rented for the move just a lot less tie down points.
