I'm fond of alphanumeric displays.
DMDs are fine, but don't add a lot of value to a game for me.
Heighway PF lcd conveys information without disrupting game play, so a step up. Heighway backbox led potentially good for attract mode, nice for multiplayer. I like that there's a meaningful choice offered.
Multimorphic affects game play the most, and positively for me. The playfield art was variable, priority shots were easily identified, and the rule set clarified. I was very impressed at PAGG but the lack of features on the lower 2/3 (apart from slings) concerns me. A skilled player might have overly long ball times.
JJP screens add to attract mode and multiplayer info, but I found the movie clips disrupted flow. Rule set information was not clear despite the extra screen space. Those can be improved with code, of course.
Scoring reels to alphanumeric and
monochrome to color DMDs are just technology transfers.
Alphanumeric to DMD was a real change and an improvement. The switch to lcds has the potential for revolutionary change, too. It comes down to implementation and integration for me.
