It's your project. I was looking forward to a Pin2k kit; but understand your desire to modernize your game.

While I appreciate the work you've done; I can't see myself buying yet another machine. I'm officially out of room. RFM has a perm place in my collection. And Lexy will have a place in some form - because I hope that platform gets more adoption than current sterns/jjps.

I'll be voting with my dollars; by pre-ordering a Lexy. I hope you'll reconsider making a modular game for the P3 instead of rolling yet another pin-platform.

Been holding on to our HUO RFM & NOS SWE1 PF Kit for this or Wizard Blocks to be made - bummer.

Greatly appreciate what you've shown as you progressed, what you've done & most importantly demonstrated CAN be done with the P2K Platform !!

Sorry to see it end but definitely understand & respect your position.

    Enjoy your Haunted Cruise !!

While I would love to have a kit for my P2K game, I would also love to have a new game that uses the same ideas and takes them forward. Best of luck and I hope to play a new "holo pin" one day.

Haunted Cruise will not be for sale within the next 4 years I can guarantee that.

    2019, got it

    Quoted from solarvalue:

Actually, Heighway at one stage talked about using a transparent LCD in place of playfield glass. They did some early trials of the system. It seemed like they shelved it but I think I read somewhere that they thought they might bring it back later on. This could be a modern way to do the Pepper's ghost effect without having to have a huge LCD suspended above the game.
I found the original Pinball News article where they discussed this, see here:
    http://www.pinballnews.com/games/circe/index5.html

The day is coming when we'll see transparent OLEDs sandwiched between two thin sheets of playfield glass. I give it less than 10 years before we see the first one.

Is JJP building them for you?

Heighway's prototypes had this. Clearly it was too expensive to produce. I agree eventually it'll be cheap enough to implement. Think about large plasma/LCD TV's when they first came out. $5k for 50", now you can buy the same thing for about $500.

I highly doubt they actually had transparent OLEDs in them ... it'd be rather costly and barely existent. They may well have prototyped the double-glazing and cabinet mods required, hoping the tech would come sooner and cheaper than it is, though. Technically it shouldn't be too difficult. Though given that at least the bottom bit of glass will be fairly thick and heavy, keeping them held together and not separating, warping or the OLED delaminating might be an issue, with people cack-handedly pulling them in and out of the cabinet.

Man, I really want to work on this project again. I've been cooped up in my office for months with no time or energy for any late-night pin dev.

    Quoted from vid1900:

Naw, working with Jpop. Preorders coming soon! (I'm joking)

Not going to be used with my stuff for quite a while. Cost and light pollution are big negatives in that approach right now.

    Any updates on this?

If you wait for the patents to expire in 2019, Planetary can't keep you from making kits to sell.

Do you mean patent or license? Surely license?

    Quoted from rubberducks:

"the patent term is either 17 years from the issue date or 20 years from the filing date of the earliest U.S." -- https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Term_of_patent_in_the_United_States

So... assuming they filed near or around the launch of RFM... released around 1999... that'd put it sometime in 2019.
At that point; the patent is expired and Rick can't stop anyone from duplicating Pin2k patents.
Ofcourse ART and music are copyrighted... so they won't expire for ... ?100 years?.

Driver code updated! A Teensy 3.2 microcontroller is now driving the hardware rather then a win32 driver. I can now more easily develop and debug holographic/pepper's ghost effect pinball games! w00t! Also I can deploy and run builds in linux now

Expect more updates with Haunted Cruise and King of the Arcade in the coming months

    #418 7 years ago

That is great to hear. Always love following games being developed.

    #419 7 years ago

    Nice job Lin!

Migrating over a to a microcontroller based driver scheme for the real time aspects have done wonders in terms of developing Wizard Blocks in a manner that remains platform agnostic. Of course the machine itself will run embedded Linux, but it really makes plugging in and developing a snap!

Very similar to the tried and true development methods used with the P-ROC, which I love.

    Looking forward to more updates.

    #420 7 years ago

Nice to see this project is still (or again ) 'alive'.

    #421 7 years ago

Yes! Want to see you finish this man. So cool

    #422 7 years ago

    Yes baby! More!!

    #423 7 years ago

I just swapped out the original CRT display with a 22" lcd. I should have done this years ago!
Developing now is so much easier- I use dual monitor setup with the second monitor as the machine's screen

    More stuff to come.. :3

I've just bought a Revenge From Mars - I'm VERY excited to see this haunted cruise happening, even if it won't fit in the P2K system anymore (Which would be ridiculously awesome if you could btw!). Looks like a fantastic machine that I can't wait to see be released.

Please keep the updates coming and put me inline to purchase one of these units

I forgot all about this project. Too bad things have come to a halt, it looks like it could be an awesome game.

No work on this yet. I'm pushing through on frozen at the moment... I can see the light at the end of that tunnel unlike this beast.

I do want to rewrite Haunted Cruise's progression though, but I haven't decided in what way yet.

Funny thing about the dead, it doesn’t mean they’re gone just because you don’t see or hear them… they could be watching… waiting…

    muahahAHAHAHA!!!

Nice progress. So you get the code straightened out or was that but on hold also? I saw you videos back then and was impressed at the time. Seen beater pin2000's in the past and thought this would be a cool thing to do one of them. Like the old playfeild to knowing what a project its was then. Not that is easier but more tools and more experience will help speed things.
