And why do people want them unopened? So they can never use the spare parts that are in there? Makes no sense.

Quoted from chuckwurt:And why do people want them unopened? So they can never use the spare parts that are in there? Makes no sense.
Ha. First thing I do is open that thing and utter the phrase “mine”.
When I went to bed last night, this thread was starting to have “ best of pinside” potential. C’mon folks, we can do this!
BTW, I have played about 6 or 8 games of Godzilla on location and the qr white light laser beam did not bother me one bit. Also, I did see several others happily making use of it. Can I retrofit one of these on my Paragon?
Quoted from apessino:Distracting? I never even noticed it is there... with it being a faint glow in the lower right corner, outside of the playfield and against the literal HUNDREDS of much brighter lights flashing all over the place, and all.
But I understand... I mean, one cannot be too careful against such a "damn thing shining in your face!" You might catch Permanent Distraction Syndrome - solutions are complex... perhaps put a beer coaster or your phone on top of it? Good luck with your struggle!
Believe it or not there are people who are neuroatypical where things like this are a much bigger deal for them than others. Those of us with asperger's or ADD/anxiety disorders often find things like this impossible to ignore. Once you notice it it's like a beacon that draws all of your attention to it.
When I was a kid if there was someone in class tapping their pencil or something like that it would be literally impossible for me to focus on the lesson. it's called sensory overload and not all that uncommon.
I agree it's an easy fix with something over it, but it really should just be coded to turn off during play since it's not being used any longer.
Quoted from pinmister:Having to cover it with a card is cheesy, just have an option in software for disabling.
I'd much prefer a card. Why have the game advertise a dead white rectangle if you can have standard apron art instead?
Quoted from pinmister:I actually had the afterthought that Stern should move the qr reader to the front of coin door so it is not a distraction, I honestly scratch my head why they would put it on apron-annoying.
Because casual players wouldn't notice it. Folks in the industry told me what an "a-ha!" moment it was to have the action button start a game, because so many noobs can't see the giant backlit START button on front of the game, even after putting money in the coin door.
Pretty sure an operator posted a video of someone pressing the action button to start a game, again to launch the ball, and continuing to smack it, trying to flip. They had no idea there were buttons on the side. This is the level of location ignorance Stern has to overcome. The QR camera has to be in your face.
(I know, casual players won't have an insider account or a QR code anyway. The point is to get them in the door.)

Isn't a box of flashing LEDs, emanating all manner of noises and clacking and kinetic motion the very definition of sensory overload, already?
I'm very picky about light. Too much or too little can impede my play. Super bright insert LEDs that overpower GI? Ugh. Black flipper bats and dark rubber on a dark playfield? Also ugh. I'm totally onboard with folks saying a light in your periphery can be distracting, even on a noisy box full of lights. Thankfully that wasn't my experience at Expo, never noticed it while playing. Jury is still out on playing in a dark room.
Quoted from chuckwurt:Stern already makes this.
So Stern has a product they sell to cover up the QR reader with a translite? I know there are lit up rule cards but they would be the wrong size. I think that is why I believe someone would need to make one in a custom size.
MGC's arcade hall is not very brightly lit, and I felt that the QR reader on the GZ's there was a little annoying. It's not a huge deal but I would definitely find a way to deactivate it if it were at my home which also has a dimly lit game room.
Quoted from yancy:I'm very picky about light. Too much or too little can impede my play. Super bright insert LEDs that overpower GI? Ugh. Black flipper bats and dark rubber on a dark playfield? I have a professional light meter. Once I receive my Godzilla, I'll measure the output of the light in the qr reader box. At least that will give a reference point of how bright it is. I have about 100 plays on Zilla in a very dark location and never thought the QR reader was distracting. I also believe Stern wants the reader lit up during gameplay so spectators waiting to play notice the reader and become curious.
I just have to comment if this little tiny LED on the apron in the QR reader is distracting to someone, they should probably never play my machine.
I have an AC/DC Premium with lightning bolts that flash REALLY BRIGHT white blinding light, along with really bright LED flashers and LED GI throughout the entire playfield. I even added LED trough lighting and additional LED back box lighting.
I intentionally made everything as bright and flashy as possible and that was the whole idea on the machine.
If I could make it any brighter, I probably would and I am considering adding lighted flippers.
I have no need for additional pin stadium lighting that would make it difficult to remove when I need to raise the playfield.
I think some people might not like that, but it is my machine and that is what I wanted.
My wife commented that no one with epilepsy should ever play my machine, because it can be blinding at times and that is the whole point.
A little cool white LED on the apron would not even be noticed on machine, assuming it was available, and I do have lighted instruction cards also.
Just my thoughts.
Quoted from mahony:So Stern has a product they sell to cover up the QR reader with a translite?
It’s free. It’s made to cover up the QR reader. It should be in the goodie bag. If not, ask stern for it.
So what's the deal-people saying a card should be included in your goodie bag-but it is not? Nobody knows how to disable in menu settings? Then people saying it is not that noticeable and a non-issue? I get that some people may actually want this feature but to me it is a serious eye-sore and something I would want to cover up or disable. I get the op's chiming in on how it's no big deal(may be bias) but for home owners-who really wants this? I am a bit ocd and can tell the white square light coming from the apron will be annoying to me. If it does not bother you-good for you but for those who are not interested-Stern should allow for disabling in menu settings. Just like a fellow pinsider stated about being able to disconnect other features(i.e shaker). Op comes on here trying to figure out how to disconnect and everyone shits down his throat?
Someone should contact Stern and get the real story? Where is the cover up art that is supposed to be in bag? How can you disconnect? Inquiring minds want to know
I can tell you one thing that the Wizard mod guy will pick up a bunch of business for people looking to cover up the white butthole
If I had a Godzilla-probably first thing I would buy to mod over apron...

Ok this may get a little too real here…but you are leaving me no choice.
Have you ever SEEN a butthole? Either in person, in the mirror, in school, in porn?
Is that really what it looks like to you? Basically a large, convex, symmetrical, pyramid shaped pit, with a TINY little, pin sized anus with no starfish?
I mean… since you are ceaselessly pushing the issue, I think it’s fair to ask.
What kind of buttholes have you been looking at?! Cause it’s not like any I’ve ever seen.
Maybe that’s why it’s not really catching on despite your endless white butthole evangelicalism?
Like, you need an actual butt to have a butthole. Where’s the butt? Or anything else that actually resembles an ass, or anus, human or otherwise?
Does this represent the complete failure and decay of the American education system? What are they teaching these people in science class? Is this why so many people are angry at our schools right now, and it’s become such a politicized issue?
I honestly don't even notice it when playing the game. It's not bright at all.
Easiest way would probably be to just print out some apron artwork and cover it up.
Quoted from pinmister:I get that some people may actually want this feature but to me it is a serious eye-sore and something I would want to cover up or disable.
It takes less than a minute to pull the plug and disable it. Or cover it up with something in your choice of material and color.
Continued complaints about how other people need to figure out how you can solve your problem in yet another way is pointless. You'll just complain about that too.

I wonder if the demo in STH looks like a vagina to them too?
Quoted from chuckwurt:I wonder if the demo in STH looks like a vagina to them too?
STH giving strong saucer belly button vibes too..
Ok, Pinball Butthole 101 is now in session, taking up the slack of our failing education system and eroding understanding and appreciation of science.
Somewhat resembles a butthole:
In no way resembles a butthole:
Please study up. There will be a test on this next week.
Haha good ol Levi going off on his sexual pinball tantrum again. Can you please educate me on how to have sex with a pinball machine coin door? If you do not see the similarity to a white butthole-let me explain it for you. Two bright lights represent the ass and the little black dot is the anus(once you see it-you will not be able to un-see). If you think it is no big deal and it does not look bad-then why comment? The OP wants to know how to disconnect because he thinks it looks like shit and many others do as well. All I want to know is if Stern can offer to disable in settings(I think it is odd they don't)? Does not seem like a crazy request-until all the keyboard commandos tell you you are being silly. Just like a white asshole-everyone has an opinion.
Now I will ask one more time and give up-Where are cover up cards and how can you disable in settings?
White Butthole super annoying (resized).jpgThat hole is not white. It's the opposite of white. It's the complete absence of light, much like every thread Weir starts. It's as black as your soul!
And again, if you think the white part of the QR reader looks like a butt...well...let's just say I'm glad I don't share your anatomy.
The whole white butthole thing is clearly a white elephant. But type "white butthole" 6,609 more times, maybe someone besides you will find it funny, clever, or accurate, and it'll finally catch on!
What in the absolute hell? Butthole? Some people have just lost their shit about things changing. I would venture to guess the Venn diagram of people that hate the QR reader vs the people that bitched endlessly about the lack of innovation by Stern is one circle.
At Houston show with GodZilla.
No; the QR reader is not distracting. No, its not blinding. Don't have a clue why I thought this was like a laser checkout scanner or something.
I retract all my statements above.
IF you don't like it and Stern won't put a disable setting in the menu - unplug it or cover it.
Been playing my premium a few days now. I scan my barcode and play. Never think twice about the little white square. It’s a NON ISSUE. AND I love the online tracking and achievements. I think it ads a new level of fun. All you geezers who can’t handle this new fangled technology should probably sell your games and check in to the old folks home.
Opinions vary.
The Houston show has about a dozen Godzilla Pros and Premiums (thank you Marco). The room is dark.
These readers are not bright or bothersome. They are just bright enough to get your attention.
No big deal to me. I can take it or leave it.
Conversely, one of my pals is bummed that he can’t retrofit his home games to add it for all of them. He loves the achievement model.

They should look into scorebit. That works on all SS games and they will have achievements too.
For those who are not down with the QR codes, I made a magnet to cover up the ugly decal above the right speaker. It was made by request because a lot of people don't like simply removing decals because a buyer might some day take offense. Whether you remove the decal or not, this magnet looks great. Toho Scope appeared at the beginning of a lot of Godzilla movies in the 60s. Also, have a kanji decal to cover the ugly seizure warning (Go Go Godzilla).

Looks like a great product!
What is the title of this thread?- Has anyone figured out how to turn off qr reader?
OP needs to change thread title to: What do people think of the qr reader-good or monstrosity?
Still nobody coming forward with cards that cover up or someone that can explain how to disconnect under settings?
I think it is no big deal and does not bother me comments are comical. OP and others want to know how to disconnect not what your opinion is on it and that it is a non-issue? If it is a non-issue then again why comment?
I asked my wife what she thought-she totally agreed with me that it is an eye sore and she also agreed that Stern messed up by putting it on the apron. She agreed that it should have been placed on front of coin door.
Glad people think it is a non-issue-good for you
Now can someone at Stern just answer a simple question-how do you turn it off?
Quoted from ForceFlow:Just played Godzilla today. I didn't even notice the light while playing the game. IMHO, it's a non-issue.
It's really not so much the light as the ugliness of it ,for me anyways. Would if been just as easy to use on coindoor. And on the le games, you lose a nice lighted area of art work to an ugly, out of place, lit ,square hole. This is the only negative in the entire game .
Quoted from pinmister:Now can someone at Stern just answer a simple question-how do you turn it off?
You’ve already been told multiple methods multiple times by multiple people how to turn it off. Yet another method provided by Stern won’t turn it any more off.
I have been told to pull the plug or to cover up with something? Both are not real solutions
What I would like to see is a Stern representative explain how to disconnect in settings(not having customer pull plug-super cheesy) and whether or not there will be cover up cards(professional one's provided from Stern).
Trying to think outside the box for REAL solutions
Quoted from pinmister:What I would like to see is a Stern representative explain how to disconnect in settings
We know you want that because you’ve repeated it eight times in this thread alone.
If you really want an answer ask someone from Stern.

Nothing in this thread will convince Stern to put the option in settings to shut it off so it will depend on enough people complaining to them directly. The QR scanner doesn't bother me but just like everything in life I'd rather have more choices than less. Imagine not having the choice to turn the knocker sound off or adjust a shaker setting and people join in on this thread to mock you just because you have a different preference than them, pretty juvenile and pathetic. More choices on how you set your game up should be appealing to everyone period.
I keep repeating myself because nobody can seem to answer the questions?
I guess I have not taken it upon myself to call Stern because I do not own Godzilla. All of the future games will have this implemented so eventually I will want the option to be able to disable. I figured someone with Stern insider info would be able to answer these easy questions? I realize this is a multi-million dollar investment from Stern and it is not going anywhere but at least offer the option to disable?
I honestly think it is really crazy that people cannot just disable in settings and people saying just to unplug it? Again not a real solution. I like the armchair quarterbacks poo pooing the OP and trying to make him feel that trying to turn off the qr reader is silly. It looks like ass and Stern f-d up-plain and simple. I may have to call Pablo and pick his brain
Here is the link to reach out to Stern if you want them to add a turn off option setting for QR reader, going back and forth in this thread is pointless.

The answer to your question of "how to disconnect in settings" is you can't. That's your answer. Quit saying no one can give you an answer just because it's not the one you want. You've also been told the correct venue to request it - contacting Stern. If you really care that much then go do it ffs.
