I found one of my dream cars just the way I would of build it. I'm not getting any younger (64). I hate to sell any games because I would never be able to get them back I'm on a fixed budget. It would leave me with three, but my best one's would be gone. I would like to hear your opinions. Thanks confused.

Ten years ago I sold a CC that paid for half of this. We've had WAY more fun with this than the CC.

Been thinking the same . I’m a big car fan , so I think I would actually get more enjoyment with a hot rod . Just don’t know what yet . What games are you thinking of selling and what’s the car ?

    #4 4 years ago

    MMR,MBRse,Munsters. 1965 Plymouth Belvedere II 440 motor

    #5 4 years ago

Go for the car, you'll make more memories with it.

    #6 4 years ago

Get the vehicle. You've had your pin fun, and obviously this weighs on your mind. At 70 the car won't be the same enjoyment.

Worse case scenario, you take a beating on resale and can only afford to get 1 pin back.

    #7 4 years ago

Go for it, especially if you're making a dream come true and you'll still have a few pins.

    #8 4 years ago

My 2 cents.....pinball generally holds its value. Cars don’t.

June 2014, I sold all but 1 of an approx. 15 pin collection to fund the purchase of this ‘72 Hurst/Olds. Now just days ago I added STTNG as my 9th pin. Granted I’m an early solid state guy (cheaper pins) and this pin is the newest I’ve ever owned, but it shows it is possible to slowly rebuild a collection.

    Buy the car, no question.

Do it and don't look back. I've bought and sold many arcade games and pins over the last 25 years. At various times I've purged one or more pins when purchasing a Model T and a Delorean. I've had no regrets. You'll get plenty of enjoyment from the car.

    #13 4 years ago

You can drive the car to the local Barcade and play some pins.

I am 66 (or will be in a couple months) and my thought process is the same as yours. I was heavy into the car hobby years ago but walked away once I had a family. Now I am seriously thinking about selling off some machines (we don't play all that much anyway) to fund the purchase of a nice classic Mopar. My dad was a Chrysler mechanic his entire life and a grew up around Mopars. I had a garage business for a few years after I got out of college and have owned my fair share of muscle cars, hot rods, & race cars. I never missed it after I walked away but now I have "the itch" for another toy. My biggest concern is insurance - I know nothing about classic car insurance. I know that information is available I just have not researched cost or anything yet.

I had Hagerty's ins. on my last Hot Rod, it was good insurance and it was cheap.

    #16 4 years ago

It would probably be easier to trade for a Hot Rod, because by the time I sold the games the car would be gone.

    #17 4 years ago

I would much rather have both a car and some pins than just some pins. Like someone else said, you can drive it to location and play. Plus, it’s an outdoor sport!

You are going to have way more fun in that muscle car and it will only appreciate in value. Pinballs will never appreciate like that.

Yes Hagerty's is the way to go. I have my 72 camaro insured for 15000. less then $200 for the year.

    #20 4 years ago

What I did was I took a HELOC (home equity line of credit) and snagged the car. Then I sold the pins to pay the heloc back. I think I paid it back in a month.

Go for the car! If you don't your probably going to regret it.

    #23 4 years ago

I sold a bunch of games a few years ago and bought a car. Rarely drove it, took a year to sell at a $5k loss. Keep your games.

    #24 4 years ago

I’ve thought about moving a few pins for a 1977 Pontiac Can Am or several for replica 66’ Batmobile!

    Quoted from LukyDuck:

I'll bet you have a nice pinball collection.

    #26 4 years ago

Not knowing the car you want. I'd think on it and then decide.

My lottery win cars are a 1969 Dodge Daytona, Road Runner Super Bird and a Road Runner Hemi Convertable. Dodge Charger with as big an engine as I can put in it. A hot rod like John Milner's in American Graffiti. Find my 1954 Harley Davidson KH that was set up for drag racing and get it back.

But now that I'm older. Air conditioning is nice. An automatic is nice. A good radio is nice. I'm too old to be climbing in and out of a 1967 Shelby Cobra with a 427 block in it. Same with many other exotics made today. And an electric start on a motorcycle is nice.

So I'd look at the use factor, and how much you'd enjoy it. Then decide.

I'd still be after the muscle cars, but my everyday driver or for long trips would be a lot different. Escalade looking thing or 6 wheel Humvee.

    LTG : )
Disclaimer : Get the car. You'll be glad you did.

    #27 4 years ago

Cruising around on a perfect day makes life feel sooo good. Do it, but beware the money-pit. The big down-side I think of; If it's too nice, you'll worry relentlessly about what could happen when you use it.

For me; too many vehicles. I should push a couple out this year, but having one always felt right. No regrets.

    #28 4 years ago

    Get a Hot Rod pin!!!

i've actually played this game above , know the guy who build it , awesome work

    #30 4 years ago

Have been thinking the same, sell games that collect dust to have something I'll get more enjoyment out of...Hmm. If I had a third bay on my garage, or I could convince the wife to park in the driveway (yea right), they already would be gone and I'd have a 911 or a late 30's pickup

    #31 4 years ago

I would get the hot rod. Nothing beats the feeling of driving your dream car on a beautiful sunny day. I’m sure the wife/family would love to go for a ride too.

    #32 4 years ago

If it's your dream car, why not? You can always play pins on location or at friends house. Having a cool car you can enjoy is a real treat. What car is it? I miss my 73 Camaro. Sold it for pin money but it was just sitting in the garage and needed a lot of work.

    #33 4 years ago

I’ve thought about selling my pins, and getting an old car. But the g friend convinced me to just stick w the pins. I’ve inquired about a few early 60’s bel air wagons, but till I move to a place w better parking conditions, I’ll reconsider when the time is right.

Yep. 5000 miles a year. Perfect driving record. Locked garage. Not driven to work regularly and they even paid for stupidity. ( dr door open while backing up and damaged paint).

    #35 4 years ago

I sold an afm and bought a Miata. Kinda the same thing. I don't recommend doing it. I'm trying to sell the Miata now to buy another pin and I'm not going to get my money back

How did you hold that pig down long enough to put that much lipstick on it

    #43 4 years ago

I've been trying to trade my 86 Corvette for pins for years. If there are any Vette lovers reading this I'm really flexible on it. Need the garage space.

    #44 4 years ago

We sold a couple pins to help purchase a 2005 350z convertible. Never regretted that purchase. The wife and I love the Z!

    Do it!

A couple of years ago, back when Pin A Go Go was in Dixon, California and shared the fairgrounds with the big British car show on the Sunday, I walked the car show with my "game buying" budget still intact. I kept seeing car after car with asking prices well below what I would have paid for a nice B level Williams or a lightly used Stern Pro. It took a lot of will power to walk away from them, mainly because I have spent years dealing with Lucas electrical systems on my Triumph motorcycles and we already have 5 pre '68 cars in the household.
Seriously, here in Southern California, classic cars are nearly as abundant as the sunshine and pretty affordable if you know where to look (or you're THAT house where everyone just knows you'll be interested in a project car-they come to YOU) It's pretty amazing that a running, driving classic car (project or shall I say "players condition") is less money than a pinball machine.

I missed out on the car it sold But I would love to have a 1956 Ford Fairlane Victoria, like the one I got married in.

I sold 3 (2 with Big Block conversions) last year!

Almost never see those and in one week I bought 3 out of a small town in Idaho.
    Crazy world.

I am actually in the opposite boat from you. I am thinking about getting rid of my car and maybe picking up another pin or two.

I would like to thank everyone for their opinions and comments. It has been a lot of help. Now I just have to decide what route I'm going to take.
