I don't view this as a cheaper alternative I view it as better!
Quoted from bluespin:Cpr is scheduled to start producing playfields soon. Are you just looking for a cheaper alternative?
Quoted from aobrien5:I have a friend who would love his playfield to look like the one you're about to sand off!
Edit: zooming in shows the issue better, but your mylar helped a lot compared to his no mylar.
sounds like your friend needs a HARDTOP
Quoted from johnnypinball:It looked like Skypilot was referring to Clearcoating the Hardtops but he did have a comma after the word Clearcoating it just wasn't obvious
I don't see any need to clear coat a Hardtop! Hardtops are changing pinball for the better.
Quoted from jetmechinnc:Debating heavily on buying your Taxi hardtop to replace my discolored original playfield.
no debate great product!
Quoted from Oldschool77:Are these gonna stay in production and stocked, or are they going to be a limited run? I.E. If i decide a year or two from now that i want to hardtop my Taxi, will i still be able to buy one for it?
great question! i just bought a taxi hardtop just in case!
Quoted from Outsidedge:YUP! We are working on improving that. We are having the same issue my MMR has. ... but we will get it dialed in for the opacity on inserts.
so can you translate in English for me.
i have a taxi hardtop i purchased and plan on installing over the Holidays should I be concerned? please advise.

link to hardtop site / great product!
Quoted from Skypilot:Please do not try to clearcoat a hardtop. They are not designed to be clear coated. It is a poly carbonate with a special coating on top to help the playfield resist wear.
i belive they are talking about clear coating the sanded play field and inserts. not the hardtop itself. unless you recommend not clear coating the sanded play field before hardtop install.. i believe your install vid said sanding inserts and play field up to 2000 was sufficient . and cuping inserts not an issue only raise inserts need to be sanded flat.
Quoted from desertT1:I am not planning on clearing the hardtop, but the sanded play field.

read this : hardtop technical info.
Quoted from Skypilot:The second option is easier but puts a new variable in the equation.
can you explain? pros and cons sand insert vs. clearing insert. thanks.
Quoted from Skypilot:Sanding the inserts down to a high-grade polish to make them look like glass is a bit more work. Pro to that is no other chemicals have been introduced between the hardtop and the playfield. The con to that is the amount of work. The pro to clearing the insert is less work is involve. You do not have to sand them down as much. Also by clearing the inserts you're helping to seal the edges and keep dust from coming up between the insert and the hardtop. The only con that I know of is any concerns about outgassing.
thanks for your reply I've restored many a muscle car and know the work involved wet sanding between coats. i also know the results it can bring. i feel those that haven't sanded before don't understand how you can polish by sanding. i felt response from someone who has installed a hardtop would be best and I am glad you explained it well.
Quoted from Skypilot:Thanks and appreciated but your scans are not needed.
Never say never The success of these B/W titles is being noticed by others.
great news! now how about that SOLAR FIRE ?
Quoted from northvibe:Everyone keeps req'ing but you have to remember how these are made!
64bsstp reminds us, if you can help contribute a PF, please do!
Wish I could contribute with a solar fire play field but mine is toast id buy a GL if they make one and a fathom too! maybe even a vector although my vector is really nice. really digging my TAXI Hardtop!
Quoted from northvibe:Speaking of that. Outeredge - do you need mint/good quality pf’s? With no paint missing. Or can you use photoshop etc to touch up any missing sections?
Great question!
Quoted from eabundy:Any discount on new hard tops if you have a machine at the show with one installed?
They are a great value as priced. Well worth the money!
