Quoted from Skypilot:

Please do not try to clearcoat a hardtop. They are not designed to be clear coated. It is a poly carbonate with a special coating on top to help the playfield resist wear.

I am not planning on clearing the hardtop, but the sanded play field.

My apologies , I should have read back a few. I remember having a discussion with someone earlier who wanted to clear overs hardtop and I thought we were going down that road again.

When you sand down the playfield you have two options in preparing the inserts. You want them to look clear befor applying the hardtop. You can polish them with high grit sandpaper or you can use a form of clearcoat. The second option is easier but puts a new variable in the equation.

can you explain? pros and cons sand insert vs. clearing insert. thanks.

Sanding the inserts down to a high-grade polish to make them look like glass is a bit more work. Pro to that is no other chemicals have been introduced between the hardtop and the playfield. The con to that is the amount of work. The pro to clearing the insert is less work is involve. You do not have to sand them down as much. Also by clearing the inserts you're helping to seal the edges and keep dust from coming up between the insert and the hardtop. The only con that I know of is any concerns about outgassing.

thanks for your reply I've restored many a muscle car and know the work involved wet sanding between coats. i also know the results it can bring. i feel those that haven't sanded before don't understand how you can polish by sanding. i felt response from someone who has installed a hardtop would be best and I am glad you explained it well.

This was my thought to clearing the entire playfield on the Space Shuttle. The playfield was so borderline (we had to inject the ends with glue and clamp to stop delamination from water damage) that I wanted it sealed up.

6 months in and still looking like a new playfield.

Do we have a definite on which game will be done next?

#559 6 years ago
Quoted from seshpilot:

Also, Fireball EM is a game that always has blown out pfs and will probably never be reproduced due to the curvature in the wood

Fireball EM, Fireball Classic and Cybernaut are all conventional, flat playfields.

You cut the shipping notch, and screw in the metal bracket that raises the ramp from the field.

Yes, I am just finishing up the prototype for outside edge. I would imagine they will release it in a week.

+1 for High Speed.

#566 6 years ago

Patiently waiting for Black Knight. Okay, maybe not patiently. My money is burning a hole in my pocket. This is what I have to work with. Beyond saving if you ask me and the top playfield isn't much better. What would be nice is if someone posted some pictures of the work in progress on the BK hardtop!

That play field is beautiful Dude. That patina is superb and tells a fantastic story. PURE ART!

#568 6 years ago

A little wax and it should be as good as new !!

#569 6 years ago

Excellent candidate for a PF protector.

LOL! Whenever I start talking about restoration with a buddy of mine he always asks about leaving in the patina. “Man... the patina is what makes it rad, you can see what it went through yet here it is working perfectly!”

I have a friend that says the exact same thing!

My reply is that I want it the way the designer intended it brand new from the factory :p

Yeah, just let a ball roll down the playfield slowly and watch how it wanders. Working perfectly my ass!

Quoted from SUPERBEE:

That and a few touch ups and it will play like your old Space Shuttle!

Can I pre-pay for a hardtop while I wait???!!! I might just start the tear down and the sanding now...

#574 6 years ago

Since CPR is being pretty slow with the new Paragon and Space Invaders playfields you could probably get a lot of people interested in hardtops by beating them to the punch! Not that my recent pickup of a paragon with a worn/planked playfield has anything to do with this post.

#575 6 years ago

Wait they are going to make Black Knight Hard Top as well? When was this confirmed?

#576 6 years ago
Quoted from dzorbas:

For sure ! Any idea where the ole girl is nowadays ? I think its moved around some over the last year.

#577 6 years ago

I would like a High Speed please!

#578 6 years ago

I also have 2 Silverball Mania that could use one.

Black knight is almost ready.

All yeah! Is there a wait list or anything?

#582 6 years ago
Quoted from darcangeloel:

No wait list .Outsidedge will announce its availability as soon as it is successfully prototyped.

#583 6 years ago
Quoted from SUPERBEE:

It almost ended up at my house but we were haggling over less than $100. So I told him to keep it. He hasn't sold it so I still get to play it when I go over to his house!

#584 6 years ago
Quoted from Skypilot:

Are we close enough that I can start my tear down or should I wait a bit and play it a few more times...?

#585 6 years ago

Is there a current list of “in work” or “next up”?

#586 6 years ago

I would also be interested in a "work in progress" or in queue list. I would kick myself for passing on a roached project when it could be restored in the near future.
Thank you for making these available!!!

#587 6 years ago

has anyone in Ontario Canada bought one of these babies?
Interested to know the shipping/duty/brokerage/tax on tax on tax fees?
Might have to drive to border and broker myself..

#588 6 years ago

I take heavy metal meltdown

#589 6 years ago
Quoted from tominator:

I've asked for shipping charges. The say $30 to $40. Who knows what our friends at Canada Customs will ding us as it comes across the border. I'm waiting on a Black Knight. If you happen to order something and get it before I do, let me know how you make out.

Thanks!

Quoted from dzorbas:

Play it another week or two.

#591 6 years ago

I'd be in for a black knight as well. Please let me know when they're available. Thanks.

I can only imagine what he is trying to get for it ! lol Did he ever figure out the issue it was having ? (you meantioned something a while back).

#593 6 years ago

Do you know if you will ever get the ok to produce Gottlieb games ? Cough...Haunted House...Cough...

#594 6 years ago

Sorry guys, off topic...

Quoted from SUPERBEE:

Did he ever figure out the issue it was having ?

Can't figure it out. It's up for sale again even though I'm not sure if he is serious. The saga continues...

#595 6 years ago

I don’t know is if it’s been mentioned yet but is Cyclone on the list of Hardtops to be produced?
