    I buy junk games with 2 or 3 legs in the dumpster that require PF repair. I like to use acrylic paint that won't stand up very well to the steel ball and that's the reason I clear coat.

    I would never clear coat a PF for no reason. I believe the less un-reversible things you have to do to a PF the better. I generally trust the judgement of the restorer whether or not it's necessary without grief.
