Beautiful! Amazing! I absolutely love it!
Moving on to the coin door. I have a non-dented skin and 2 sets of “coin door guts” that I’m going to Frankenstein together.

I put all the pieces in a tub and soaked in Evaporust over night. I’ve been running the tumbler for 3 nights getting everything polished.

There’s supposed to be a coin door in all of these parts

I sanded the skin with 220, 400, 600, 800, 1000 then finished it off with some Mothers Mag. 18A6EB71-F0DD-43FF-BA20-A6105A4A74EB (resized).jpeg I then hooked up the coin mech portion to the back and applied all the labels. D1560042-330A-4A8D-B347-396F84A54DCC (resized).jpeg

I still need to clean up the wire harness. I’ll try to knock that out this week then move on to the rest of the trim and rails so I can wrap up the cab.
Ok trim and carriage bolts are cleaned up. I sanded 600-800-1000 then used mothers Mag on all.

Thanks to Deez for donating a few switch covers. I’m technically done with the door but I need a new light socket and Williams coin mechs if anyone has a couple you’d like to part with. 210F0998-F20F-4884-9E4E-C7C4BC54C031 (resized).jpeg
Quoted from phillyfan64:Looks great! Where did you get those yellow coin covers?
They’re from Deez project Firepower. I wish these were available but no one makes them. There’s a few 3-D print files out there but finding originals is getting harder and harder.

Thanks. I need to make a Tested by #4 and change coin label!

4 is my lucky number that’s why I always use that one
Little by little
I decided to tackle the lockdown bar.
It was scratched all to hell. I regrained it entirely with the 80 grit wheel on my drill.

Then I went through the spectrum of grits wet sanding at about 10 minutes per number.

After I used Mothers Mag I was a little shocked on how it turned out. I really wasn’t wanting it to be this shiny. I hope I can get the side rails to match!
Quoted from DanMarino:I need to give that method a try.
Trick is to sand back and forth as straight as absolutely possible

You should just hang that in your closet. It's a mirror now!
Tomorrow I am picking up my son-in-law's Space Mission and bringing it to my house to work on. The goal is to get it up and running so my 3 year old and 1 year old grandsons can grow up playing it. I don't think I will do any painting or clear coating of the playfield. I will throw some things into my new tumbler and ultrasonic cleaner. Once I get the machine fully working and playing games, I plan to strip the topside of the playfield and give it a good clean and wax. I'll start a thread and post some pictures along the way.
I’ve been in a rut with this machine. It’s become more of a chore than an enjoyment with this last phase.
My motivation is at an all time low with a project and I think it’s from taking on 2 full EM restorations at the same time. Just brutal…
However I have pushed my self little by little so here’s where I’m at currently.
Working through the backbox panel, I took the player unit, credit unit, and match unit apart and ran everything through the ultra sonic and then tumbled.

The match unit was a cool contraption to figure out. Over all the units turned out pretty good. Still need to make labels.
Started taking the score reel banks apart.

They’re pretty dirty as expected…

I use my rotary to clean every contact and polish up the traces on the boards.

Everything is labeled for this bank. Now I’m just waiting on the ultrasonic and the tumbler to do their things.
What a great thread. I just picked up a basket case barn find Space Mission and this has me motivated to dig into it.

You just need a break for a few months. Your attention to detail is always superb and that level of restoration does take a lot of time. And they look absolutely great!
I cleared two playfields last summer and took a total break this winter. This year will only do one and getting the itch now to tear down the 4MBC
Have you picked up one of Bally's multi-balls yet?
Quoted from Garrett:Have you picked up one of Bally's multi-balls yet?
Not yet, 4MBC will be the only one I persue!
Little by little I’m making my way through the backbox panel.
Player 2 and 4 reels were completely dismantled, and all parts were ultrasonic’d and tumbled
IMG_7525 (resized).jpegIMG_7526 (resized).jpeg
Then I did the same for the relay bank that holds the reset relays and the 10,100,1000 point relays.
IMG_7584 (resized).jpeg
Then I went through every single set of switch blades and hit them with my mini wire brush on my orbital tool. You can see the difference looking the switches I’m holding versus the set above my fingers
IMG_7579 (resized).jpeg
After getting everything resembled I’d say this half of the board looks pretty good
IMG_7599 (resized).jpegIMG_7600 (resized).jpegIMG_7601 (resized).jpegIMG_7602 (resized).jpeg
Now I’m going to tear down the 100,000 point relay bank IMG_7603 (resized).jpeg
I’ll give another update in about 14 months.
Gotta love ultrasonic cleaners!!!!
I’ve never put relays into one though. Also love my Dremel tool with the little wire brush for cleaning switches! Keep it going! It’s a fun pinball machine to play. So many features.

Yeah just gotta take all the pieces apart with the relays and hitting contacts with the dremel is the greatest thing ever.

A man after my own heart. I was working on my insert tonight too.
IMG_4430 (resized).jpegI love tumbler day!
IMG_7613 (resized).jpeg
One thing that I used to hate was digging around trying to find the brass screws since they’re not magnetic. Then one day I realized it reminded me of when my grandpa took me dredging for gold in Prescott AZ years before he died, and you would look for the shimmer while you were swirling the pan around. IMG_7611 (resized).jpeg
Quoted from DanMarino:I need to get some media for my tumbler, but not sure exactly what to buy.
Just go to the pet store and get corncob bedding. Polishes great just make sure the metal is clean and rust free first.
IMG_7614 (resized).jpegQuoted from smailskid:Just curious.....how many estimated hours have been put in? Amazing work!
Thanks!
I honestly have no idea, usually 1-3 a day after work and probably 4-6 over the weekend but the problem is I’m usually doing multiple projects at the same time so it gets a little jumbled up.
Several of my games are typically done 9 months after I start but this one is taking me a little over a year. Some of that is because I did a large part of my Strato Flite while this one was going and I’ve been in a motivational slump for the last month.
If I had to guess, looking back through my posts I’d say about 10 hours a week minus 2 months so around 440 hours.
Quoted from mrm_4:Latch, Trip all day!

Looking good!
Quoted from DanMarino:How do you make your labels?
I either download what’s available from @inkochnito’s site or just make everything in Word and print it out then apply double sided adhesive.
This post shows the adhesive:

Back at it again since the weathers been crappy. Took apart the last 2 banks of score reels.
IMG_7786 (resized).jpegIMG_7787 (resized).jpeg
I ran everything through the ultrasonic like usual and then put all the metal through the tumbler.
Water before:IMG_7788 (resized).jpeg
Water after: IMG_7789 (resized).jpeg
Now I just got to reassemble this stuff and the backbox will be done
Back boxes are simply tortuous.
Very nice machine now top and bottom inside and out! You should be very proud of the result.

Thanks man!
All I have left is to sand and polish the side rails for the main cab. So close!
