I posted before looking for replacement inserts for my Stern Lightning to no avail. So I decided to go a different route... First I found a website that sells colored plexiglass at 1/4 inch width ( not many providers out there). Ordered a 12x16 inch sheet of blue transperant plexiglass, then traced around the original inserts and cut them out with my dremil tool leaving at least 1/8inch excess around the lines. The first set I tried hand sanding down (long miserable failure). Then I went out and got a 1inch x 30inch belt sander from harbor freight for $32 with coupon, and tried again.
This set came out very fast and easy ... took my time sanding down going back and forth from the game to see how it fit. The end product fits extremley tight and good ... dont know if I even have to glue them in?

I was wondering what glue to use myself? I've heard plain old white glue works? Thanks for any input

I thought about the cost but ... just another cool little tool to ad to my little pinball workshop garage. I'll use it on other projects (no more hand sanding!)

Well I put in some lights and found these new inserts to be very clear (like you can see lamps clearly when lit)... so I also purchased another sheet of plexi from the net with my original order cause I wasn't sure how they would look. I cut 2 more inserts from it ..... take a look let me know which you like

Quoted from crassmage:

couldnt you just sand/scuff the underside of the insert to make it more opaque?

Good Idea

Wow- great idea!
Thankfully didn't need to address this in my restore but that looks really really good. Excellent job. Not bad on total cost although your at probably 50/piece! But thats a lot better than keeping something trashed in a game your working on, its all about the process!
Dont keep your receipts... you'll just end up adding it all up one day.

Well another pinside member needed some inserts for the Lightning they're restoring, so I helped him out and he helped me bring down some of those expenses by $15... no if couple more people need inserts made I recoup all my costs!
