I remember everyone bitching about jjp Pirates for the first year...

The spinning disc has changed!

The trunk doesn't close anymore!

The game is too expensive!

Poor guys that got sucked into buying that flop....

Quoted from SpookyLuke:

I think a valuable lesson Bug and myself learned is how important getting information to the customers is. I think that we believed most people would wait to play it and see how it progresses to decide. However an early negative review or podcast can really go a long way toward making customers nervous. Many times these reviews are simply mislead or speculation. I think when we complete this flow chart and show how cool the code plan for the game is that will put many minds at ease. I even saw one comment that the game "only had 6 modes of different difficulty". He had no idea there were 4 other main modes aleady in plus a couple side modes with more coming. 2 wizard modes coming with a really cool game long strategy that ties into each or the blood collection system with a strategic reward store. That is entirely on us and we will do a better job of making sure we get that information out there. I think this latest code is actually really solid for this early on and it can become something special for sure. Lesson learned and we will continue to improve and be proactive with these things I'm the future. We have already hired a 2nd full time programmer and it's one of our main company goals to get farther ahead on code and designs in the future. We will be investing in that.

You are the only company that owns it's mistakes. This will pay off big time, and it already is. I'm so happy for you. Keep it up!

Where is the best place to find these? I am hitting a wall doing a generic search at some pinball supplies websites. Might be searching the wrong terms though.

You don't need them. Just be careful when raising and lowering the pf.

Anyone know the exact dimensions of spooky's shipping box? Is it the same as stern (31x31x60)?

Wonka is a great shooter, but . . .

The thing that I think kills most JJP machines is code. They need better coders, hands down. For example, I've never shot a jackpot on JJP machine that made me feel like I accomplished something. Many modern machines suffer from this overkill coding. Take a look at Alien Poker. Shooting the cards in order is SO FUCKING FUN. It's so simple too. TZ door mb jackpot. Not crazy hard, simple design. I still feel it after playing the game 100s of times over just under 30 years. How 'bout that Wonka jackpot you scored? Thought so... you don't remember shit 'cause the code licks pouch.

JJP also has the slot machine sound guy they hired - cringe worthy. Even GnR has slot sounds everywhere. They are the worst in the history of pinball. I'd rather turn off the sound and listen to orbitor 1.

Quoted from rotordave:

I think their coders are great.
I don’t like the RULES.
(Two separate things)
Most of the games are MB after MB after MB. I get for a lot of people multiball is “cool” … but not for me. I find it tiresome.
Compare to Lymans TWD rule sheet .. yes there are a couple of multiballs but there’s big points (and great moments) in single ball play.
Horde is maybe one of the best modes in pinball ever - shoot the shots and get a ball added in. You really need to be a good single ball shooter, and you get rewarded. So good.
ACNC is like that - a couple of MBS, including the 2 ball crypt you can bring in if you want it (it’s helpful in a couple of the modes) but mainly it’s about single ball shot accuracy. Which is what pinball should be about. IMO.
rd

Good point. Their coders are great. I've not seen many issues with coding. It is the rulesets.

I think multiballs need to be simple, challenging, dramatic and rewarding. Shadow has great mbs. Iron man's monger mb is pretty good. STTNG is EPIC, maybe the best - prob my fav... Even my Pinball Magic has way better mulitballs than my Dialed in. JJPs are mb heavy, and if the mbs are just "shoot all the shots for jackpots and maybe there will be a super when you're done with those, oh, and they'll sound like you're in a vegas casino" it's just . . . lame.

Again, a lot of modern machines suffer from not designing mbs well, even some of Elwin's games.

Quoted from metallik:

Most customers would expect documentation to be included with the machine they bought, either in paper or online. Rubber charts are part of documentation and there is nothing "entitled" about requesting this information.
As for my question asking why, it was rhetorical. I never expected an answer, was just expressing surprise it wasn't sorted out yet. Four months of building playfields should be enough to know what the rubber loadout is.
It'd be really nice to get proper manuals/documentation for my other Spooky games but I guess that ship has sailed.

I see that ACNC has a manual, but no other games do, including Rick and Morty. The older games at least have matrix charts etc posted.

I hope they produce manuals for the current games as I reference them quite a bit for most of the games I own. I never imagined any company would manufacture a game without a manual... Weird.

Quoted from monitorpop:

Not sure if it is official as I can’t remember where I got the link but I reference this Rick and Morty manual from time to time. I assumed something like this would get made for Halloween.
https://docs.google.com/document/u/1/d/1P6kJ9a-lIiPmd7BqrecN0CxTGaDLR3ty4Bt6_XIUThM/mobilebasic

Good to know. Strange that they don't have it on their website..

Quoted from Mad_Dog_Coin_Op:

I disagree. It is worth it for the part numbers alone. Getting a replacement anything is way easier to do if you have a part number. Just try to get something without one at the Pinball Resource.

Plus it's nice to browse the adjustments when setting up the game. A manual is way more informative than going through them in the game. It's also great for troubleshooting problems with mechs.

Quoted from Ilushka85:No idea what number 1 at customer service means. If you build a good product you don’t need customer service. And every stern game I have bought came complete. Every time I had an issue with a stern in 1 day I had a replacement part sent by them. Never had stern send me an le and tell me it’s missing parts and will ship to me later but to get them later I should reach out and have patience because they have other customers.
You can sit here and say how great spooky is yes they are nice and yes they are responsive. That’s a minimum to be a decent company. Doing that doesn’t make them amazing it means they are doing their part …. You paid them for a product and for them to stand behind it. They do and so do plenty of other companies. If they didn’t they would be jjp….

Best thing for you is to never order a spooky pin again.

You'll be missed, I'm sure.

My God... There are some really unlikable people on pinside, but this guy is making his way to the top. Imagine having to be around him in person for even five minutes. It's amazing that any society can produce such obscenely self-righteous citizens. Please, for the love of God, STFU.

Quoted from mpdpvdpin:

There is not a single pinball machine in existence that is hassle free. If your going to buy a pin from any manufacturer you should brace yourself for having to dial it in, perform general maintenance / preventative maintenance and repair / adjustments. That is just the nature of pinball. Now, if you had told me that you were planning on buying HWN/UM as your very first machine I’d have recommended that you instead buy a Stern pro that doesn’t have a lot going on in it. These two Spooky titles are full on packed with unique mechs, multiple flippers, multiple playfields, multiple scoops, drop targets, rollovers, optos etc etc etc. You’re going to have to be willing to get under the hood. Everyone here will be willing to help but…there is no whining in pinball. That is isn’t directed straight at you. There is A LOT of whimpering going on in here and it’s frankly surprising. Anyway… learning how these things work and tinkering around is a major part of the hobby AND that aspect can be enjoyable too.

Quoted from jeffro01:

All I see are a bunch of greedy assholes who wanted to screw people over from flipping and are getting exactly what they deserve. If you're not into the game/theme then why in the world would you plop a non-refundable deposit down...??? This isn't FOMO, this is greed.
Jeff

Jeff, where are your stats coming from? Where is your evidence? Most of the guys I've seen selling just don't like the outlook of the game.

Quoted from kciaccio:

Nobody is losing money on NIB pins but Spooky owners in this market. Unfortunately. Even Led Zepplin, probably the worst NIB pin you can buy isn't losing money like these Spooky games..

Most are losing money on presales, not games. Take a look at stranger things. It was in the same place when it came out.

I truly hope that all of you impatient buyers start investing in stocks, following them daily. You'll get slayed your first year and earn some of the best wisdom that you can: Patience fucking pays.

There truly is a lesson here. Stay the course. Inquire and learn. Most of all, Chillax.

These are commercial grade machines that involve wear. It's 1000% supposed to happen. I'm baffled by the desire to prevent it. I enjoy my Genie that is worn down to wood in some areas just as much as my nib machines. Most buyers understand this as well, so fear of resale makes zero sense.

They should be leaning forward to stop air balls. I adjusted the height so the tips were level the the pf. Ball rolls right over it just fine.

Quoted from Morgoth00:

I was looking at the angle of the tops of the drops the other day, not being parallel to the pf. Seems like a possible speed bump

Ultra man's callouts sound like they're from a 20-something year old bro-skie, so they're just as bad. The balance is really bad too. Music and licensed audio is crazy good though. I wish they'd hire pro voice actors like Stern always does. Otherwise, the games sound cheap. With all their new money, maybe we can get a redo.

#7804 1 year ago
Quoted from Rdoyle1978:

By yourself? If it’s just you, this is irrelevant. I don’t know your background- you may have a day job doing development. But it boils down to this: you can’t add someone to a project at/near the end and expect the same results and productivity as if you had added them at the start. I deal with business types all day long who think development is just plugging things together, and all developers are exactly identical. Then they go all crazy when things don’t work out perfectly, instead of agreeing to the plan set out by people who actually plan and do development for a living.

We'll just have to agree to disagree. Saying that you can't add to a team (or individual) programming in a framework and be more productive, regardless of where you're at with the project, just isn't true. It's done daily in the programming industry. Programmers get poached/quit etc. like crazy. Yes, you have to train the person, but that's like any job. Pinball is definitely on the lower end of complexity, and adding a guy or two would cut down the time significantly.

Are we really at/near the end with a year left on the programming schedule?

Quoted from Beechwood:

That's odd. I got mine 3 weeks ago and it's played flawless so far.
As far as the rankings, some people only like pure flow games. This one isn't like every other Stern out there. Playing on locations is not ideal. It's best in a home environment so you can be immersed in the game play. It really feels like you are being stalked by Micheal, lots of suspense.

It could also be that a lot of people simply dislike the game and the qc has been pretty bad for some people. I had my worst qc experience with my UM, and I find the game to be simply be ok. Neither will ever be considered top-shelf titles. It's just the gamble you take with fomo ordering. I think many learned a good lesson. There are those who love the games too, and that's great.

#8202 1 year ago

It's more like getting into vending. You probably can't find a tech to fix your rare type of coin box or your food vending machine carousel motor. You should know that going in.

These are commercial vending machines. If you want to collect them as a little side hobby, you're in for a deserved suprise.

Now, compared to other manufacturers, is spooky's qc off the mark? Hell yes.

Quoted from metallik:

How would your guy fix this? Float the new part over the crater and run jumpers to the nearest remnant of the traces that were obliterated? Gonna be real fun trying to solder to those tiny traces. This is not the way to design a pinball board.

Def could clean it up and hack wires to a new transistor.

Very disappointing to see surface mount transistors. I hadn't really looked closely at the board. Why on earth... ?
