Quoted from John_C:

Figured it out and it was my issue, not the machine's. I learned that if I'm too heavy on the left and right flippers to the point that I actuate the upper playfield flippers, this will effectively cancel the skill shot. If I'm light enough to not energize those upper flippers,

That’s still odd. You should be able to flip the flippers without killing the skill shot. Sometimes you hit the ball and it doesn’t trip any scoring switch, giving you another chance at the skill shot.

Quoted from Pinbolls:

Quick question, I understand they put out new code, but when will we see the update that improves the animations as well as polishes the code? I know they have a new group of programmers, but have they mentioned when it may be ready?

Just watching some Avalanche v Oilers and waiting for new code to drop.

Is that a homebrew Halloween pin I see back there??

Yes sir. Started 3 years ago. Progress hit a few snags with lack of availability of the Pascal board, and finishing playfields and backglass. Should be picking it back up in the next few weeks to finish though.

Here’s the thread:

Joined the club today! Was trying to hold off grabbing one of these until my homebrew game was totally done, but too good of a deal came up a half hour away.

Yeah man, I followed your build. Your game came out awesome. It had to go in that spot… for now.

So I’ve been through all the menus five or six times. Where the hell do you reset the high scores in this thing? (The single malt probably isn’t helping)

Quoted from BallyKISS1978:

You still should have inspected it before refusing it.

Quoted from BallyKISS1978:

wait for spooky to get it, inspect it like you should have

Quoted from BallyKISS1978:

There was no reason not to inspect it

Quoted from BallyKISS1978:

That’s why he should have inspected it and not send it back.

Wait…are you saying he should’ve inspected it?

#6443 1 year ago
Quoted from Roostking:

He wasn't home to inspect.

I usually get this guy to inspect everything for me that gets delivered.

And he’s great to have around for when you drop a screw or nut down inside the cabinet.

Gotta admit I wasn’t totally sure how he’d be with it but I was assured by his assistant it would be fine and it was.

I wish I had my game two months ago. Met James Jude Courtney and could’ve had him sign something.

We chatted for about 20 minutes and I showed him my homebrew. He loved it. Very cool guy, and very down to earth.

Quoted from Mro-Tek:

I do have one question. My right inlane lifter is constantly going up and down. I am guessing this is not what it is supposed to do?

It’s not supposed to do that. I would check the switch first. Hopefully that is just sticking. The return lane lifts were a little problematic with some of the games early on.

#6511 1 year ago
Quoted from dnaman:

Are there mechanical switches or optos for the lifters?

I thought I did see a switch before, but none. Four optos on the left lift, and one opto on the right lift.

Mro, make sure your optos are aligned, and the green and white wires all have good solder joints.

Quoted from mpdpvdpin:

Halloween, let’s face it is kind of a silly film that we all love. It’s ground breaking, but it is silly. When I watch the film I yell stupid shit at the tv and make fun of it and have a ball.

This film is silly? Then clearly you don’t understand it. Killer Clowns from Outer Space is silly. Halloween was spectacular.

As a huge Halloween fan having built a homebrew game myself, it was groundbreaking in several dimensions and creepy as hell. And unlike movies today, what happened in Halloween and the way it played out was actually something possible in real life.

And it was the first real slasher movie showing a stalker that could not be killed, which was in itself immensely horrifying at the time. Carpenter worked with what he could in the late 70’s to make this film creepy, especially considering the limited tech and effects he had available to him at the time.

Suffice it to say he also composed the soundtrack and recorded it himself because the musician they had hired backed out. And it became one of the most iconic and recognizable soundtracks ever.

I’m no Roger Sharpe like you, and getting a high score on this game is still challenging at this point. But it makes me hit the start button at least 8 to 10 times every time I fire it up. And I haven’t played a game in a while that made me do that.

Sure the sounds get a little redundant, but it’s nothing I hate. And it may get better as code updates come.

#6680 1 year ago
Quoted from Jediturtle:

The movie itself isn't silly, but some of the dialog is, especially Loomis. His character was always written as borderline crazy himself...and his dialog reflects that both in the movie and the pin. Anyone saying his lines in the machine are cringe-worthy is absolutely right...and they should be...because that IS the character.

Almost definitely. When you spend the greater part of two decades counseling a 6 year old kid that stabbed his sister to death and is dark to the core, it would certainly change you. Counseling psychiatric patients in general may make the doctor a little nuts also in any context.

I guess Michael could’ve done the callouts. Then you would just hear breathing the whole time you played.

#6681 1 year ago
Quoted from guitarded:

But, honestly, I find almost all pinball callouts to be cringeworthy with only a few rare exceptions. R&M + Elviras Games spring immediately to mind.

You need to play Class of 1812. Best callouts and audio ever. Including the 1812 overture sung by chickens.

#6686 1 year ago
Quoted from mpdpvdpin:

Downvotes coming from a guy who I’m sure has never seen ‘Deep Red (75)’ an Argento film that undoubtedly influenced Carpenter to make Halloween.
That’s cute.

So you downvoted me first there Mr. (self-proclaimed) Aficionado. Then you whine when someone else downvotes you?

And “I’m sure has never seen”? How do you know what movies I’ve seen?

I don’t need the back-and-forth banter with you though. Let’s keep this thread about the game we all enjoy. At least most of us enjoy.

#6694 1 year ago
Quoted from mpdpvdpin:

Here’s something that’s unbelievable (and silly) about Halloween. How does Michael know how to drive a car if he’s been in an asylum since he was 6 years old?

For most people, driving a car or figuring out how to is relatively quite simple. I think it took me all of two minutes to learn how to drive…when I was 15.

I was just in the middle of playing a game, smoke started coming out of the left flipper under the glass. Wasn’t even holding or using the flipper at the time.

Turned off game immediately, left flipper coil is burnt up, and plunger is seized up in the sleeve. And now the trough won’t kick any balls out either?

Sadly, it looks like no more Halloween for the long weekend and party. That sucks.

Quoted from IdahoRealtor:

Certainly does. I’ve reached out to Spooky, hopefully get a response Tuesday after the long weekend.

Unsure if this pin would fit in my basement with the topper in full motion. Does anyone have a measurement of the height with the topper at top dead center? Thanks!

You’ll need 86 inches of clearance with topper. Backbox sits a smidge shorter than a Stern.

Quoted from RussMyers:

Has anyone else had this issue, and if yes, any solution to protect it in the future?
This is on my Ultraman, but same for Halloween.
Twice now, I have had a ball hit the exposed RGB LED strip right at the left edge of the middle playfield.
One or more LEDs go dead, and the downstream part of the strip stays a single color.

This happened to me and I replaced the bulb board on the bottom of the sanitarium playfield where the lower LED strip jumps to. It’s a little difficult to get to, but you just have to unscrew one screw. Fixed the issue.

Quoted from TonLoc777:

I just purchased CE #46 from a friend and currently experiencing some issues. Has anyone else had smoke coming out of the middle playfield during sanitarium multi ball? The game just recently had the pinotaur board replaced and worked great for 3 games. Upon inspection I can see that there are some dark burn marks on the board.

Yeah, I wouldn’t even leave the game on with something like that going on. You can cause much more extensive damage. As others said, you have to find the root cause of what’s causing the issue.

This is another time that a manual or schematic for the Pinotaur would be extremely helpful. Without that, you’ll have to trace the wires by color coding.

#8621 1 year ago
Quoted from arcyallen:

Rules question: At the point right before Sanitarium Multiball starts, there are two shots lit on the middle playfield that seem meaningless

The target light being lit in conjunction with the quad insert is the next shot you have to hit in Sanitarium progression…after you’ve hit the two standups and then the scoop shot behind the drop target.

Once you complete the first three shots you get the video of Michael slapping/breaking the window from on top of the car. Then the quad and right stand up are lit for next shot, which is up the trail to the right of the standup.

Quoted from Betelgeuse:

I got my BSE 1066 today without a scratch on the box. I've only had time for a few games so far, but everything appears to be working and looking good.

Congrats man. I know your wait has been long and anxious.

I did my undergrad at Pitt, lived off Boulevard of the Allies on Cato Street. If I’m ever at the old stomping grounds, I’ll hit you up and set the high score.

Haven’t been back to the steel city (for more than a day) since the Pens went back to back. That was a three day party.

Halloween CE# 920, You cant hide. Where are you? Come home, wont you!

How the hell did you get a quad in your house? Haha.

Hopefully your Halloween gets there soon.

Quoted from PanzerKraken:

If you can adjust the guide perhaps, but really there shouldn't be anything in the orbit to cause that to keep happening, those left orbit shots should be landing on your left flipper. Besides your pitch, check your level

That it should. I have a little technique where I can turn the shooter rod as I plunge at full strength, and it bounces from the left to the right flipper, and up into Annie’s tombstone for the instant lock.

I can hit it at least 6 out of 10 times, and it gives you 1 million right out of the gate. Only a slight compromise vs. choosing the initial 1.5 million skill shot.

#9107 1 year ago
Quoted from MK6PIN:

A few shots w Orange EL pumpkin ( I landed on orange vacuum chromed flipper buttons)...color blend a bit more red during the day for some reason, but done screwing w this one. Armor absolutely kills w the EL...

Those do look pretty sick. Especially with your darker armor. The metallic flipper buttons are definitely a nice finishing touch.

This is for all the people who list their pins acting like it’s some accomplishment to be selling a game with 25 plays on it.

Quoted from metallik:

I got the fade issue bad as well. Didn't want to start flippergate 2.0 by posting here but if others are feeling it, might as well add my $0.02.

I have flipper fade on my game as well. Usually happens if it’s on for more than 45 minutes, and after five or so games are played. Center ramp becomes very hard to make, especially off the left flipper.

I usually just bang it from the right flipper if the game has been on for a while. But I do notice a substantial difference.

Quoted from rotordave:

Games like ACNC - if you don’t hit your shots, you get nothin.
While personally - as a “player” - I prefer this as I think good play should be rewarded (as opposed to flailing around willy nilly) - but I fully understand that 90% of people like to see the scoreboard moving so they feel some sense of accomplishment.

I think that’s the point for most people. 98% of casual players aren’t IFPA-registered and don’t use a power stance while they’re playing.

So being amateurs, they want to at least score some points while monkey flipping. They don’t want scoring to be some arduous task.

Personally, I love how difficult Halloween is. I tend to gravitate to games that are either very difficult or very fast. Like BSD.

#13472 1 year ago

My sanitarium drop target isn’t resetting at all, and doesn’t pop up on initial game start up now.

I can reset it in the coil test and then start a game. But once it’s knocked down it never comes back up. No switch is showing as stuck in the switch test. Can it be disabled or enabled from some other menu?

Any suggestions?

#13475 1 year ago
Quoted from finnflash:

My light strip has been very annoying lately also. Sometimes I have to lift the pf and just touch the connections into the board and they work. But lifting it every other game is getting ridiculous

Agreed. It was working intermittently, but now goes out totally sometimes, and when it is on it’s just white.

I did replace the Yopsicle that’s connected to it with one of the spares in the coin box because it crapped out. Maybe it’s a different Yop for the color and chasing feature?

#13482 1 year ago
Quoted from runpaulone:

Thought I saw something about loosening posts and retightening.

Yes, you can usually just loosen the nut on the top of the slingshot, then re-tighten.

As to the other issue, my ball has randomly jumped from the house playfield down to the Sanitarium, but it never got held up anywhere after making the airball journey.

Great choice. That’s perfect for Halloween.

Thanks. That’s what I thought. A darker color seems to make the rest of the game pop. The original gold-ish color just seems to blend with everything, even looking from the apron to the playfield.

And like everything, it looks even better in person.
I was initially going to go with Illusion Cherry, but I didn’t want it to resemble my home build at all.
