Super clean LT250! My first quad, but it was not like that! Also, details on the Yamaha.!

Thanks man, the LT250 was my first quad also.
The Yamaha is a 87 YSR50. Fun little bike. I always wanted one growing up. It’s a street legal moped / crotch rocket….

Quoted from jeffro01:

Wanted to take some time to post my review of the game now that I've put roughly 100 games on my machine, this review will be based on how things stand today and are completely my opinions only. This review will cover everything I can think of and will be as honest as anyone reading it would want, warts and all.
Overall Impressions/Feedback:
I wanted to start here because I really feel like every review should start with a summary so that if you don't want to read the novel that is the rest of this, you don't have to. Okay so to start, Spooky has done something really awesome here. Now that I have my machine I really cannot, for the life of me, figure out where ANY of the negativity has come from for this title (cannot speak on Ultraman, this is entirely about Halloween). Once some of the warts have been removed, more on that below, this pin is going to be absolutely outstanding. The game is challenging but straight forward, the art package is second to none, and the "bang for the buck" is unparalleled in the market today. Overall grade, A+++++++.
Shipping/Receiving:
Honestly, and this may be just me, I really do not like how Spooky packaged my machine. To date I've received NIB from Dutch, Stern, and JJP but none of them box like Spooky does. The machine itself was strapped to the pallet which I wasn't expecting and to get it off you have to cut those straps which of course is no big deal but because the machine is essentially sandwiched between a top piece and a bottom piece once we cut those straps, getting it off the pallet was difficult and unexpectedly challenging. I had an oversized pallet on mine (which was requested) which added a bit of extra difficulty. Once you get it off the pallet though, it wasn't any different than any other machine. Overall shipping grade C.
Build Quality:
Overall my machine is top notch here, no issues with the head being out of square (like one person showed), decals were applied properly with no bubbles or peeling edges. Really like the fact Spooky ships the felt leg covers with their machines. Wires were reasonably well bundled and organized although I have serious OCD here so my standards are a bit high but overall I'd say B+. Game worked out of the box but I did have to tighten the spring on the center drop target which seems to be common. I also had to redo the pumpkin mount as after about 50 games mine began to bend down and sag a bit. A well placed zip tie around the light socket and back of the bracket solved that problem. Otherwise, mechanically the game was top notch. The main screen isn't very good but enabling the "gamma" setting as recommended by another poster worked pretty well. Still will probably do the IPS screen upgrade at some point. My main issue with build quality was the playfield, whoever is making these needs to SAND EVERY OPENING BEFORE THEY CLEAR IT... Never have I had to clean out a game so frequently out of the box. We've, and this is no joke, had to clean it up at least a dozen times in 100 games just from saw dust debris that the balls knock off the drop openings until it's all "knocked off". Don't get me wrong, the playfield is beautiful and crisp and solid, just need to sand those openings before it's cleared. The coin box also surprised me in that there is no attachment loop on the back so it just "sits" in the spot. Overall build quality A-.
Gameplay:
One of the other things that really surprised me is the code, and by surprised I mean (again this is my opinion) I'm quite happy with where Spooky is at on this and don't see the reasons for the negativity. Even in the current version the game is plenty deep enough and will be exceptionally deep once Spooky gets everything in there they want. Animations are fine, modes are plenty, shots are challenging. However, the bugs are crippling... Every so often the game will eject 3 balls into the lane and then lock up, or you'll find yourself "stuck" with no idea what shot is the next one. The modes have got to have a timer... ALL of them. Also, having to restart everything on every ball is extremely frustrating. There has to be some sort of "carry over" from one ball to the next. Every new ball essentially is a completely new game and while the layout is awesome, it gets a bit disheartening to always have to start over every ball. There is no "mystery" light so telling me "mystery is lit" was extremely confusing at first, I get this is a carryover from Ultraman but please fix this. It should say "shoot the pumpkin" or something that doesn't call out a light that doesn't exist. I know all of this can be fixed and that's what's so exciting about this game, when they are fixed, this pin is going to be next level awesome. I look forward to having more settings like ball timers and such but I get their point. People freaked out so much in the beginning they had no choice but to start pumping in assets and callouts but I can't help but think that impacted the basics a bit. Currently, and currently is the main point here as I know it'll get better, C.
Other Thoughts:
Powder coating is amazing, really what you get for your money is simply not available from anywhere else. I know I already made that point but look at the price and then look at what you get... It's a complete steal in todays market. An equivalent JJP/Stern would run at least $12K NIB. Audio is out. freaking. standing. Getting used to how the game plays with the balls coming out of the sling is pretty neat. I don't think balls need to be staged there, it gives me a moment to breath and "reset" a bit as the game progresses. Out of my collection, no other pin plays like this one which I really, and I mean really, enjoy. Personally I think Spooky has a complete Grand Slam here with this pin and once some of the rougher edges are corrected (code and continuing manufacturing improvements) those who have gotten out are going to really regret that decision. The heat Spooky has taken to date is quite frankly, ridiculous. Their service and support is top notch, SpookyLuke is absolutely amazing. Those of you who are still on the fence, don't be, get excited about your place in line as seeing is believing with this pin. I'm so happy I jumped in on this pin when I did and have absolutely zero regrets and am super excited as to what's coming on the horizon with future code updates. Thank you to everyone at Spooky who has worked on this pin, built this pin, and made this pin come to life. I'll keep saying it, you really do have something special here.
Thanks,
Jeff

Good review! I only have about 30 games on mine. That's not enough to give a quality review. If I can get my center ramp and scoop working well, this is going to be one of my favorite games. That's crazy considering I bought the game for my wife. LOL. When I'm actually make it to the pretzel shot it is fantastic! It might be my favorite shot in pinball!

Anyone notice Weird Al has a butt-pretzel? Upper playfield snack bar into the lock area. Imitation is the best form of flattery!

I think in Weird Al's world that's a parody lol.

Anyone having issues with the spring staying attached at the top left upper playfied drop into the ramp? My buddy has tried twisting the loop tighter and it keeps coming open.

Is it coming off of the top or bottom? If it's the top then it's just a matter of tightening the spring itself. If it's slipping off the bottom it could either be the spring or the loop on the metal rod. Either way it's just a matter of pinching the gaps.

The top, I will take a closer look this weekend when I am onsite. I told him to do the same thing but he is new to the hobby and afraid to do much. Thanks for the quick reply!!

Quoted from SpookyLuke:

Definitely still plan on it. We honestly had it in once but it was so buggy we just threw it out to focus on getting content in. The hardware is all there to do it. Just will take a decent amount of time to program. I would suspect it would burn close to a month and we just badly don't want to use a month on that right now. We could add a literal whole wizard mode in the same amount of time. Programming sucks lol. I just want all the stuff in NOW.

That's fantastic news! Thanks for letting us know Luke.

We have it on Star Trek The Next Generation and it makes a huge impact on the flow of the game - works very well.

As for the programming - I get it completely. Since you have already equipped the machines with the necessary hardware to support it no one should be making an issue of it. It's better to get everything done properly, as opposed to quickly which never works out well.

Thanks again,

CP

Where is the new code Spooky has been teasing us with? A few days out is now more than a week ago.

Right here. Sorry for the early tease, but we're tying to make it as solid as possible before dropping it. I'm off to do some more testing now.

One has nothing to do with the other...

FWIW, my powder coat seems to be just fine. Because of the type of powder coat it is, I do expect some wear over time.

What are people's experiences with FedEx freight? Any issues? Mine is tracking for delivery tomorrow, but haven't heard from the shipper yet.

Hit and miss... Just depends but honestly it's like most things delivered via freight... Sometimes they come clean, sometimes they come roughed up... My TBL was damaged by FedEx freight in transit, my Halloween was perfect, but my snowblower didn't survive the pallet... Again, just depends.

Don't sweat it, you have a greater chance of things being fine then having an issue.

Exactly. You should play them, not just use them as room decorations. It’s a game after all. Collect things smaller and cheaper if you only want to look at it.

Quoted from Looprunner:Joined the club today! This game is fantastic. I have two issues out of the box. One, when I hit down to the drop targets it just keeps making this awful noise or over and over. Super loud lightning kind of noise. Is this part of the game? The other issue I have is it randomly plunges the ball for you on a multiplayer game. So the next player has to be ready to go immediately. Guessing that's an opto or something

This issue seems to go away and come back. We've determined it occurs the first time you knock down the middle and left drop targets while the right target is still standing. It starts randomly making thunder noises and giving you lots of points until you knock down the third target. If you don't knock it down and drain, it auto plunges the next ball. The weird things is that it only happens the first time you knock down the two drops. It's fine the rest of the game.

I took the drops apart twice and all seems good. Checked every connection. You would think if it were a connection it would happen all the time. If anyone has any suggestions on what to check I would appreciate it.

Hey folks! Hope all you guys who have your machines are enjoying them - I cannot wait to get mine! Question for those who have ordered from overseas (Australia in particular). I contacted Morgan, who said typically Spooky send overseas orders together in a container. I'm number 379 so would expect mine to be built this month, but not shipped for a while - so I'm seeing if there are any other Australian orders here and what number you might be. I'm just trying to gauge when a container might get sent, or is it worth organizing separate freight (maybe if a few owners club together it may not be so costly)?

Also does anyone know how many machines are typically sent in a container?

Great question.

I think 40ish. That the number I remember from the early TBL shipping days.

I can't speak for any other pinball companies but they deff have some of the best customer service I've ever seen. Mine arrived with a few issues as well and they sent everything out super fast. Hell my top side panel had a chip in it and they sent a whole new side panel!

Thanks man! They couldn't tell me either, but in any case it looks like my order number is pretty much irrelevant and I'll be waiting a fair bit longer for all the Australian orders to be shipped together. Unless some of us arrange our own shipping of course.

The upside is I guess it allows more time for code to mature further.

Hi mate, I'm order #256 and I haven't heard anything at all from Spooky so it looks like they're holding off our orders - just guessing.

Hi folks,

I’m hoping I can tap into some technical knowledge on the forum to help me diagnose a problem and point me to a solution. I apologize in advance, but this is a long post; I wanted to detail everything I’ve done in trying to fix this problem.

I’ve had my machine for several weeks now and have been chasing a bug known as “Michael Creep.” During game play, one or more of my Michaels on the left side will creep out from their normal “zero” position. Eventually, over the course of a game or two, the Michaels get driven face-first into the hedges where they’ll stay unless manually reset through the menu or the machine is rebooted (or if I sink a ball under a given Michael during gameplay). In one recent instance, I was just walking up to the machine to start a game, touched the lockdown bar, and all three Michaels kicked out about an inch.

The following links are to videos I took of my machine today. Although these are clips, all took place within several minutes of game play as the issue occurs quite frequently:

http://jkcosta.net/videos/20220304_102238_4.mp4

http://jkcosta.net/videos/20220304_132659_4.mp4

http://jkcosta.net/videos/20220304_132659_5.mp4

I’ve spent several hours under the playfield looking for any kind of issue that could point to a cause. Here’s a list of the problems I’ve found as well as some troubleshooting steps I’ve done:

(1) Soon after initial setup, I was experiencing a problem where partway into a game, the flippers, slings and other solenoid-controlled functions would cease to work. Looking in the cabinet, I eventually found a loose 48v power lead that had come out of its crimped connector. In addition, it seemed the remaining 48v power lead took up the electrical load as it showed signs of melted insulation. I repaired the one power lead as well as two ground leads that also had poorly-crimped connections.

(2) Each Michael servo is connected to the main board with a long extension. Thinking these extensions were picking up EMI, I took the extensions out, removed the bulk of extra wire, then untwisted each wire lead and in-turn braided them. I then installed new pins and plugs. Braiding the wires is an old RC hack that helps choke or reduce EMI in long runs of wire. In addition to braiding the servo extensions, I also braided the flat wires coming off each servo. Again, I wanted to be thorough and confident that I was not picking up any EMI. It should be noted that I left enough extra wire on each extension to allow for multiple routing options under the playfield. The extra I bundled up using a zip tie.

(3) Thinking a servo might be bad, I tried replacing the servo under the bottom Michael (servo 3). Unfortunately, this made no difference.

(4) I tried disconnecting one servo while leaving the other two connected to see if perhaps one servo was affecting the other two. Again, this made no difference as both connected servos would show the problem during gameplay.

(5) Earlier this week, I took another closer look at the components in the cabinet. While checking the power distribution board, I found one of the plugs in the “12 VOLT AND 5 VOLT OUTPUT SECTION” had a ground pin that was not fully inserted into its housing. I removed the plug, pushed the pin in until it was seated and locked, and plugged it back in.

(6) Yesterday, while doing a thorough inspection of the connectors on the main board, I found that the plug on the far upper left had a ground pin not fully inserted into its housing. I removed the plug, pushed the pin in until it was seated and locked, and plugged it back in.

At this point, I can see no further electrical or mechanical issues.

My guess is that I either (1) have a bad main board that is sending voltage spikes down the signal wires to these servos, perhaps due to a bad ground or some other problem on the board, or (2) have a bad power supply. Perhaps while that 48v power rail was disconnected, the power supply was damaged as exhibited by that melted insulation on the wiring.

I have been in constant contact with Spooky but so far they have not been able to help me get this issue resolved.

Can anyone here provide some suggestions on further troubleshooting? I'd greatly appreciate it.

Quoted from Lopa:

I have heard this before but I do not see how this could be a code issue. If it were, all machines running the same code would have the issue, wouldn't they? My friend's earlier CE does not have this problem and I have not seen too many posts here talking about the issue (though I have seen a couple).

And how would me walking up to the machine and touching the lockbar cause all of the Michaels to jump out? I don't see that as being a hidden feature in the code.
