Quoted from djsolzs:

Your game bricks for almost every single shot? 100% you got some leveling or something to do I don’t get that at all.

Taking things out of context, again the point is that the modes in Halloween turn off many of the scoring shots in the game. As you complete playfield modes by achieving their super, that mode and its qualifying shots are also turned off and give zero points. The more you play the game the more switches, targets, and features are turned off essentially and you are given less gameplay.

This happens in it's current state, what folks are proposing is removing even more options as in current code you can in a pumpkin mode at least still go for hedges, judith, house, sanitarium targets to progress or achieve said modes and score some points, at least until you beat those modes which locks them out. So folks mentioning removing half of those options?

And yes if you are in a pumpkin mode, which do not have timers that cause them to end until ball drain, you can get into states where nothing in the game will give you points and you can't achieve progress in other features or earnings until you hit the mode specific shot.

This would be fine if the mode would end cause of your failure with a time limit, or that you still had other options for qualifying or earnings of some feature.

I find this whole discussion amusing when for months folks were arguing how much they hated how specific modes took over the game and locked you out of stuff, so instead now folks are talking about removing more options of gameplay and creating more scenarios where modes take over the game instead of allowing some freedom of gameplay.

Quoted from Sinistarrett:

I get the idea that he means the games other shots “brick” as in “shut down” and dont do anything, not that he cant hit the shots.

Yes, that's the point.

Staging would be nice, Spooky said it was on the table but not heard it mentioned in a while.
I would like it but I know some wouldn’t, keeps the action flowing instead of waiting.
Has Spooky even tried it I wonder?

#14253 3 months ago

I stand corrected - makes sense

Theme wise I kind of like that the game is so sedate outside of modes, it goes along with that classic iconic piano riff - but it does mean the game is very empty outside of modes. Playing another game I bought recently (Legends of Valhalla) I noticed it has lots of little things to do outside of battles/modes - some examples are:

1) Completion of stand up targets in open play starts one of 3 mini-modes
2) Hitting a certain number of loop shots activates a hurry up mode
3) There are 9 unique specific combos to find

These are just 3 simple scenarios, but Halloween really has nothing like this woven into the game - it is totally mode based, and you really have to know how it all works in order to really enjoy it. So - yes I reckon it could probably do with a few little things like this just for some extra things to do in open play - just so there are other things to shoot for. Don't get me wrong I love the game - and as a movie fan I actually like the way its structured. But for a casual player, and even for some of us owners, I can see how they'd be smacking the ball around with not much happening, and not knowing what on earth to do next.

It's so unique though I actually don't want them to change it too much now. Tidy up some of the stacking (don't remove it please), fix the rest of the bugs, add the remaining modes, few more clips perhaps (and I guess we'd all love to see some updates or additions on the animations but that's wishful thinking now), and I'd be pretty happy with it

I think one of the best new additions was the judith stuff, hitting it activating an extra shot for bonus points, and in the future will do more. That right there is the kind of stuff the game needs and it was a fun and welcome addition.

They can also toss in some other gameplay like that which doesn't have to give you like a bunch of points, but could add on to end of ball bonus, or bonus multipliers can be introduced to the game with an alternate feature/shots during active modes. Add in some new means of earning blood drops as they get harder to come by the more you play, so perhaps something like a shot to the pumpkin scoop adds a random blood drop or two to the game that a player can shoot for to earn.

If you cut the zip ties securing the servo wiring bundles under the playfield you can pull them out enough where the connectors are exposed above the playfield without removing any habitrails or plastics.

^^^^KEY POST ^^^^
I just had to replace the uppermost servo. Pretty simple with this information.

So this is a bug I don't remember seeing m4tt but I've gotten it several times today when I've tried it out. So when you restart a game by holding the start button, the game seems to get confused at times when you hit various targets or features and the game will load another ball into the shooter lane. So for example I restarted the game holding start after a bad first 2 balls. Game resets, I launch the ball and get the judith tombstone lock skill shot, the game immediatly loads another ball into the shooter before the video finishes. Shoot the ball, the game loads another ball so I now got two ball multiball without even releasing the tombstone trapped ball. This also happened with other save features and modes where hitting certain switches would randomly put a new ball into the shooter. I got it to do it three times but couldn't tell what caused it to trigger the other 2 times, but it's always when you force reset a game holding the start button that this bug happens.

Here is a strange question. It looks like my coin mechanisms should be secured by a screw of some sort. Mine are missing. I am guessing a thumb screw. Anyone got a photo they can share? Bonus points if you can identify the size I need (thread pattern).

Don't have my thread checker with me but it is .153 OD. Would guess it is this

Assuming you checked inside the cabinet? I had this happen to my CE, and they were loose in the bottom of the cab.

I replaced my hedge servo’s with what I thought were quality ones (not copies) and 2 of 3 have broke up. One did it straight away and the other was shaky to start then stopped working after about 25 games, just took this out and has done the same thing. They were no.1 and 2, no.3 isn’t looking so smooth so will see if that one breaks too. Have emailed the model company I bought them from https://stevewebb.co.uk/index.php?pid=MG90S&area=Servo
What am I doing wrong lol

Will buy cheap next time.

OK, so you are in the UK and this link is to Amazon USA, but I have used the Treedix 3 pcs MG90S 9g Servo Motor Micro Metal Gear servos as replacements. These exact servos are also the ones that Spooky is now using as replacements.

$12.99 USD for a set of 3.

Thanks, can get those here on eBay here no problem. I have 3 of those expensive ones spare so once they fall to pieces I will try those.
Luckily it doesn’t take long to replace but I’m hoping my hedge lasts as every time I work there bits of green fall off

I'm curious what's failing - is it the motor itself no longer turning? Or perhaps the gears are as not tight with the michaels as they need to be and it's slipping? It's just so hard to imagine so many of these are failing, they are dead simple servos

They judder for a while then totally stop, maybe something is not lining up in there properly which then breaks the casing. Weird and annoying.
The original ones would stop working but if I gave it a little push it would work again for a bit, no case breaking with those.

#14272 3 months ago

Still on my original servos, but did buy a set of those replacements just in case and cause they are cheap. But so far over a year now and still originals working well.

SpookyDj just posted in the Scooby thread that they should not get too comfortable with their current code. Hopefully that means we will be getting a new one shortly as well!

Exact same situation here. Original servos working but bought cheap metal gear replacements just in case. My top most Michael has had a few lazy games hanging out but always returns home after a game or two.

My wife and I agree the focus has been on Scooby-Doo since it was announced. We have not played ours in weeks. I spent last weekend doing a topside tear down on Dale Jr and it has been played every day. We currently have a Scooby-Doo on order.

#14283 3 months ago

Yeah it feels like they have cast us to the side like a ho, life goes on.

I’m still not bored of the game and I normally get bored quick with a lot of pins, I wouldn’t call it a fun feel good pin like Sterns. It’s a very tense and sometimes frustrating game but great and if they manage to get the bugs out and code finished/polished it could be a classic.

Yeah I don't think any amount of code is bringing this games value up anytime soon. It's crazy to see these prices and the reason I won't buy NIB anymore.

Remember when the story was;

“The last update, February, took so long because all the code was re-done so that future updates will happen quickly and easily?”

#14288 3 months ago

Its tough talking with locals and bring up Halloween and they cringe. Many never even played it but just go off of random word online and the values they see them selling for sadly. Few I know clearly only played early code, it's alot better for sure but its a bummer the bad rap going around when it's gotten better and there is still promise there.

#14289 3 months ago

That’s the hard part. My machine is bolted based on the tense feel and theme so I don’t care much about value.

What this experience has done for me is that I defended Spooky to anyone I came across.

The way this code and animations have been handled is truly unacceptable at this point. Hiring the clown who made the animations was unacceptable and I have no idea what happened with Fazma but they have not done whatever necessary to get this game to the level it deserves in an acceptable time frame so that we the buyers can properly defend their products.

It is what it is at this point.

Great deal for anyone interested in Halloween.

With that being said, the seller did state they were getting out of the hobby, and this was one of their last two games because they enjoyed it so much.

I’m still hopeful that the final code will complete Halloween and make it a game that collectors will seek out in the future.

Matter of fact, I’m going to turn mine on today and enjoy some Halloween!!

The seller's bio still listed 11 or so games in their collection. Sure, maybe he's not as ocd as me and updates the pinside info: last 2 games, maybe... but as depressing the resale $$ are , it only matters if you think this hobby is an "investment". If so, welcome to the beanie baby, Hummel, Lionel train, Hess truck etc, etc universe. Just came up from playing 3 in my collection and since these toys are for my enjoyment and consumables, it doesn't matter to me. Hope we can all keep enjoying while we're still above the earth.

I was a defender as well. In spooky we trust. I still think the layout of this game is stellar and only held back by code. So much promise and so much promised in the beginning. I remember statements like "I think you guys are going to get everything you are looking for in the code" . But even the universally hated sanitarium animation has fell on deaf ears and will not even be removed . It seems like spooky moved on from Halloween early on and is not looking back. The potential was there. I just have little faith left that there will be any major changes to this sinking ship unlike games such as stranger things.

Sounds like a Flipper Button / Flipper Cabinet Switch issue.

Lift the hood, check the switch and button. Guessing the button itself is broken or the switch has broken / moved in some way.

So, your hold portion of the coil is working, but the fire portion of the coil is not?

Flipper button switch is registering in switch test, but coil is not firing.

My bad, I thought the 'It' you were referring to was the Flipper Button not the actual Flipper.

Check the coil. Guessing you have either a bad coil or bad connection / solder joint.

#14299 3 months ago

I’m going to agree with all of this. Part of me is still optimistic that the code will come around. I can handle the less than bulletproof build quality but the updates have been far and few between and the content of those updates is a bit sparse.

That being said I think the next update will tell us a lot.
