Happy Halloween from First State Flippers! Once again in 2019 First State Flippers did its part to bring pinball to the masses!

This year we setup Cirqus Voltaire in the garage and we encourage the kids to play a ball or two. We had way more players this year than last year!

We also setup our special Hallowindow again with some new clips this year(see video link below). We set this up every year and let it run all week.

Enjoy the pics and video below!

    Video clip of Hallowindow:

Half of them have never seen a pinball machine, if not more. I had about 5 kids who came back around to play some more pinball. The best moment was when there was a group of 5 or 6 playing, and the one kid defeated the ringmaster, they all went nuts! Good stuff for sure.

Very Cool! It’s Awesome that you guys do that wish you lived in my neighborhood.

Asking the kids if they want to challenge Rudy, but they're pretty clueless about this device, ha...

Actually, first group was curious and asked me to play and show them what happens when Rudy eats the ball...

Good stuff! Maybe one of these years I will have Haunted House and/or Alice Cooper's Nightmare Castle to showcase!

    #8 4 years ago

Finally had the perfect weather day to put something out... mild and dry today...

I thought about putting out BSD and Mystery Castle too, but don't really think it would make any difference to these kids.

So far only one parent played, but she was really impressed at the condition of my funhouse...

Looks like a great time for the kids!

It sucks in Chicago - it's 32 Degrees!

50 mph wind gusts here and snow by morning At least the rain held off for a few hours at trick-or-treat time.

    #11 4 years ago

Not one kid showed up here. Mild, but very damp and very windy. I kinda figured it would be a no-show Halloween. Now I have to eat all that candy.

    Quoted from Hammerhead:

Our night was initially in jeopardy with rain, however the forecast moved back a bit and they had severe thunderstorms and tornado watch starting around 10pm. Crazy stuff.

Nice coat of snow for us, but still had the kids trick or treating like troopers.

That’s what it’s all about, still having fun! The kids really don’t care if it’s snowing or raining, they still want to trick or treat!

What a great idea and it looks like everyone was having a blast. It's good every once in a while to see pinballs in their natural environment, getting played by random folks, instead of locked away and pampered in a gameroom.

That's awesome for you to set a game up for the kids!

Where did you get the Hallowwindow thing?

Most of the animations come from Hallowindow. http://www.hallowindow.com/ To display it on your window, you just need to remove any blinds and cover the window with a white sheet. Then setup a projector about 10 feet away to shoot the image into the window. I use HDMI out of my laptop into the projector to display the videos. For audio, I run an audio cable adapter out of the laptop audio jack into a 12" PA system that sits on the porch. I've also seen people raise up their single bay garage door, attach a sheet to that and display the videos.

I also set this up at Christmas and have some cool videos with Santa and the elves.

2 more great games with the Halloween theme! Although next year I think I'm going to put out Attack From Mars, hook up a sub, and crank it up!

Had our Third Annual Pinball Halloween and it was a success! I usually do EMs, but since I got Ghostbusters this year, I decided to add that to the mix!

Even had the Creature side art as a decoration! Sample from Bay Area Amusements that I got at Pin-A-Go-Go.

    Remember: Tilt or Treat!

Few more from last night. Some kids and that last parent wanted to stay and play a bit, but they always get called away by their group and didn't stay beyond a couple plunges. I wonder if more machines would make a difference. It's probably more about the mission to maximize their candy take though.

I offered an incentive for playing the pin. Everyone got a candy handout for trick or treating, but if you played the game and raised the Ringmaster I gave them additional candy. This kid in one of the groups actually raised and defeated it. The entire group screamed in joy. Totally wish I had it on video, it was the highlight of the night.

Dang! I knew I should have trademarked that!

My friend came up with Trick or Tilt. I just changed his creativity!

    #25 4 years ago

Yeah, I had an incentive too. All they had to do is hit Rudy and they'd get an extra zip-loc of treats. But, I think only those first group of kids stayed around long enough to realize there was an upper flipper, and that was only after many "don't forget your upper flipper", "remember there's an upper left flipper", "the ball is going by the upper flipper now!", ha ha.

Anyway, think the prizes need to be visible, out-of-sight, out-of-mind for kids. I've got ideas for next year.

Very cool - I like the prize idea.. although they are getting candy all night for free if they keep moving.. need like a $20 bill lol

First mild and dry Halloween since posting last time. Put the X-Files out, but turnout was small.
