So I picked up a project Jungle Lord a month or so ago. Playfield has some wear, cab needs work, etc. As much as JL has the absolute best art package ever made....well, it doesn't, but it's still fun as hell to play. I was batting around ideas for a retheme to take a stab at one...and I've settled on the epic John Carpenter classic.

Working on some designs for the playfield and plastics currently, and my bud's working on reprogramming the sound board and making new ROM's. Another friend of mine is a storyboard / scene artist out in LA, and he's planning on helping with the PF and cab artwork.

Going to start the JL tear down hopefully this weekend and get this party underway. Always open to input or opinions. Some music for attract mode...

This is going to be epic!!!

I know man…right? As soon as I posted the thread I couldn’t help myself. I went back out to the garage, took off the glass and dove in, at least to get started. I need to get Justin some scans of the plastics anyway.

Want to sell me that old backglass CHEAP?

Are you kidding? I was going to frame this thing and make it the centerpiece of my entire house. LOL.

Seriously though...sure Skip. I’m sure we can figure it out. It does have a tiny bit of flaking, but not bad compared to a bunch I’ve seen of this title. I can bring it to York if you want it.

Also - if you end up needing any dedicated Jungle Lord parts I'll have pretty much an entire parts machine.

And awesome. I’ll keep that in mind as I get through this one. The inside of this one is pretty clean.

Did you ever finish making one nice Dracula out of the two or are you like us and just need to start another project before the others are finished? Every place I look I have something 1/2 finished!

Yeah man. Already done, and my other one is already sold and gone. I think I did that the night after I got home from your house.

Shit! Skip do you have the lower flipper assemblies, or at least both brackets? It looks like both of the stoppers on these are busted with chunks missing down near the coil lugs.E548D713-E529-490C-82D0-38B2EB23E38A (resized).jpegE548D713-E529-490C-82D0-38B2EB23E38A (resized).jpeg

If anybody needs plastics let me know. The bottom right sling has a chip out of it, and the left main tiger plastic has a crack and a chip off the top left corner, but the rest are really nice.

Good luck with this project Colson Halloween is an awesome theme can't wait to see what you come up with.

Definitely, thanks Alex. It’s going to be a process. I’m anxious to get it moving though. You and your pop will be down here trying to pick it up when I’m done. Make sure you bring the pinball armor.

If he doesn't have them I do.
I was also saving a JL for years that I wanted to retheme to a Heavy Metal pin. Ended up parting out the game.

Cool. Let me know how much you want for them and if you can bring them to York.

Definitely a cool pin to retheme. Multilevel games are always fun.

Of course, that goes without saying. In the words of Barney Stinson...challenge accepted.

Although it would be much easier to incorporate if I were doing a Trading Places or True Lies retheme.

Bottom PF surface is stripped other than mechs and a few metal posts. Two of my ramps have some dings at the bottom that it looks like somebody tried to straighten. Anybody have a nice set I could grab or swap out?

Quoted from Rdoyle1978:

That Dracula was AMAZING in person. Well done. Can’t wait to see Halloween!

Definitely. You mean the Vampire I restored and took to A-town?

As for the Stern Drac, I had a good example, but his PF was nicer than mine and cabs were about equal. So I swapped out my shooter hive, coin door, plastics and my backglass and shopped it with Titan rubbers and LEDs. Sold another Pinsider the leftover game for a great price, which was still a pretty decent example.

Quoted from timtim:

one of the movies that change my life as a kid, always been a horror junky but I never looked at music in a film the same after.

I don’t think any of us did. A lot of people don’t even realize that John Carpenter transposed the music from some basic chords/notes that his father taught him on the piano when he was a kid, and he even composed and played the music for the movie himself.

With only a $300,000 budget, he didn’t have many choices. The movie went on to gross over $50 million after release, even though it had flopped and was heavily criticized in the first few weeks.

#41 5 years ago
Quoted from J85M:

Oh this is going to be good!
After seeing what you did to Dracula can’t wait to see this progress.

Your Jaws retheme was part of my inspiration to attempt one myself. You did a phenomenal job with that game.

I’m going to take my time though, because I want to do it right. I might be hitting you up for some advice and input if you don’t mind.

#42 5 years ago
Quoted from ultimategameroom:

Are you limiting yourself to only the first movie?

Maybe the first and second. I’m trying to keep it as original as possible. Don’t want to dive into the latter movies, or the Rob Zombie remakes.

Did anyone catch any of the shows he did a few years ago ?
We had the best time!
John was smoking a cig. By the back door in the Alley before the show when we parked. Didn’t want to bother him so just gave him a quick nod and smile as we walked by.

Unfortunately I did not, but that sounds awesome. And classy on the nod. Now I’m going to look for one of those posters to hang in the game room next to this thing when it’s done.

I just shot this guy an email to see if I could use some of his art cuts for the backglass.

Quoted from too-many-pins:

Love the top picture for a backglass. Lower picture is a little too "busy" for my liking but either would look pretty darn good!

I was thinking the bottom one has a little more meat to it, but like the art in both. It’s just going to be a section of it.

Too much to add a pinball with a little blood on it and take out the six-year-old Mike? (Pardon the crappy mock up and sketching. I’m at a party, had a few beverages, and I’m working on an iPhone) Kind of like a horror TOM? Haha

Quoted from J85M:

That looks great! Like I said in my post above luckily the artist drew that poster using the original mask as the masks in H4 & H5 looked less than great.

Definitely. That’s another reason I want to limit it to the first two movies, if not just the first. I don’t like that they changed his mask later on. I think we all skipped over Halloween III, as that had absolutely nothing to do with the first two movies.

#63 5 years ago
Quoted from J85M:

loving that backglass design though, are you going to go with a standard translite or mirrored?

I’m definitely having an actual backglass made. I was thinking of emailing the guy over at BGresto, but I know they do not do mirroring. Shay does, so maybe he would be able to help me out or point me in a direction. Open to any other suggestions or recommendations on this front.

Quoted from docquest:

I believe Rich from www.thisoldgame.com made a real backglass for the guy who made the Goonies retheme. I thought about doing it for my Ash vs Evil Dead and Lost in Space rethemes but ending up going the translite route instead and have been happy with the results.

Cool. I’ll reach out to him, and thanks for the info. I played your Ash v. Evil Dead at Pintastic last year. Awesome job on that game.

90% depopulated and initial wipe down done of lower PF. Surprisingly, most of the inserts are actually pretty level and not cupped. Almost ready to trace and grab a couple scans.

For the center bonus advance inserts, I’m thinking a knife at the top (#10), then spell out HALLOWEEN from 9 down to 1. It’s really the only space where I could spell it out on this game.

I manipulated the movie poster, and this is going to be the decal in the center of the apron. I’m going to move the light socket or use an LED strip underneath and drill it out / open it up so it’s illuminated.

Quoted from ultimategameroom:

Would you consider having more than one Backglass made? I’d love to be able to hang one on my game room wall. Don’t know if would help reduce production cost.

Definitely wouldn’t mind. I was going to have two made for myself anyway (in the event one would flake or worse break at some point) so commissioning/ordering 3 might make them slightly cheaper.

#79 5 years ago
Quoted from J85M:

I’d try to incorporate it, other than the Mask/Micheal himself the knife is the most iconic piece of imagery from the film.
I was considering doing a Halloween re-theme when I heard the rumour Spooky could be doing Stranger Things instead of something like Halloween, Friday 13th etc.
Hardest part while I was brainstorming for it was trying to work out how to incorporate the mask, knife, closet etc other than just in the art.

That was my thinking...the knife has to be in there somehow. Just don't want it to be tacky. The mask and closet, other than on the playfield art and BG, is going to be a challenge.

#82 5 years ago
Quoted from J85M:

What do you have planned for the upper playfield drops/standups? That would make a cool closet shot/area?

That does sound like a good idea… Maybe have the closet doors where the flippers are entering the upper playfield from the middle ramp? Upper drops could be victim stab attempts.

You need to find a Judith Meyers headstone. McFarlane or someone made them years ago to go with the Michael Meyers figure.
LTG : )

Come on Lloyd! You and I think alike. Already on it brotha. Found this, but I may fabricate something with more detail and more creepy. I’m going to reach out to Modfather too.

I’d like to put an image with her lying on the bed in that scene on one of the plastics too.

Even though the temptation is certainly there on a retheme, I don’t want to start throwing too many action figures in the game. I was thinking one of Mike and perhaps LED the eyes and knife he’ll be holding.

If I had 50 grand to spend on this, I would have him come up out of the playfield during slasher mode like the War Monger on IM.

#94 5 years ago
Quoted from J85M:

You have 5 drops, 5 inserts, could always “Closet” and have some fun with the drops in the mode/mb, it’s such an iconic scene it deserves its own mode, depending what your doing with code.

Quoted from AUKraut:

BTW Colson......shouldn’t the thread title say JL instead of JC?

JC = John Carpenter. Pure happenstance that the donor game has nearly similar initials.

As I think I said earlier in the thread, I’m limiting this retheme to the first two movies, and most likely just the first. Keepin it real...real original.

I didn’t know about those either. I’ll have to check them out.

Our pumpkin we carved a couple of years ago. We really get into Halloween. Our yard has won 3 years in a row for Halloween decorations and I hope for a 4 in a row this year.

That is awesome. Preliminary evaluation by my five-year-old daughter…Michael is freaking her out. She loves horror things, vampires and Halloween is her fav holiday, and plays my BSD all the time. She’ll come around.

Playing around with some ideas for the apron. Going to make new decals in a different font, and get it powder coated for the base color. Just tinkering for now. Is orange too much, or should I go with black?

I would go with a slightly darker orange than this. And keep in mind it looks a little blank without some other art I plan to incorporate.

I might also reach out to the guys at Tilt Graphics to see if they can make me a custom one as a continuation / incorporation of the playfield art.

And I think I’m going to turn the Magna Save into “Orange Button Activates Save Laurie” or “Save Strode”

#135 5 years ago

That’s more what I was thinking after looking at it for a while too. I think I’ll go black with orange for the lettering, and maybe a mix of stripes.

And I actually like what you posted better as a decal for the center.

Quoted from J85M:

Are you going LCD with this or good old fashioned DMD with custom dots?
Saw these online, they are bead designs, reminded me of a DMD animation, as much as I love the LCD era we are now in, dots done well are awesome!
[quoted image]

Not sure yet, seems like DMD with custom animations would be much harder than uploading some vid clips to a Raspberry Pi or similar tech. I’m definitely going to need some input and assistance when I get to that point.

I had a lot of fun working on my Halloween game last year. I had to watch every film for the research, and I'd only ever seen 1, 2 and 3. From 4 onwards they all suck, but I salvaged some great quotes from Donald Pleasence.
You'll have a ball working on this theme.[quoted image]

That’s a virtual table? Looks pretty cool.

Do you think I’m able to transplant a Jungle Lord into a WPC cabinet? Lloyd?

#146 5 years ago

I’m talking about transplanting all of the guts into the head and cabinet. I have a CV cab and MMr head out in my garage. For this Halloween retheme, it would be great to have more space to add to the playfield (ie. butcher knife, perhaps raise some of the plastics w/ hex posts), and to make it easier for display conversion.

A lot of work ? Yes.

As long as the harnesses would reach where they have to, don’t think it would be that bad. Maybe I am fooling myself. Just an idea.

#154 5 years ago

Screwing around with some more apron ideas while watching the game. I’m going to send it out to see if it can be screenprinted, and have two made.

After seeing more of what the actual cut outs and layout would be, I’m kind of thinking maybe to go with orange but darker, with silver font for lettering. Black would have orange lettering, but still seems kind of bland. Thoughts?

Quoted from ultimategameroom:

I like the Black better than the orange .

Thinking about what I’m considering & gathering for the lower playfield design, black might work a little better.

Plus the black mock up is kind of dull in color, and the final will have a base black glossy finish.

#158 5 years ago

It seems the consensus is in. I agree, especially because I’m much more agreeable after two glasses of this.

Quoted from J85M:

I know it’s not the official logo if you reverse it but could you backlight the Halloween pumpkin logo? And reverse it and have it on the other side of the apron too?
Would also be very cool if you could backlight the writting on the apron.

I was planning on illuminating the center Michael decal and maybe the custom instruction cards / free play cards. Backlighting the writing might be tough, or tough and very pricy. That's a lot of cut outs.

Or maybe convert one of the acrylic aprons and just apply decals, and backlight the whole thing?

#163 5 years ago

^^ That’s a good suggestion. Maybe I’ll try that out.

#167 5 years ago
Quoted from docquest:

You could also fit a mini LCD in the apron window if you wanted some video or animated stuff instead of just backlit text.

I do like the idea. Maybe run some movie clips with a Raspberry Pi?

So Doc, how much you want to combine these ideas and put a killer apron together for this thing? Haha

#171 5 years ago
Quoted from docquest:

If you want to just play assorted clips you can use one of the 4d smart displays. All the video processing stuff is built into the display so once you create your slideshow, animation, videos or whatever you put it on an SD card and the display will play automatically loop through them whenever +5v volts is applied.

Took a quick glance, but I’ll look in more detail when I have time later this week. Thanks for the info and link. Much appreciated.

Colson I saw this posted on john carpenters website and it reminded me of your thread.

Kev, thanks for posting and putting this back on my brain. Made me reach out to my buddy who said he should have some sketches of final PF art in the next couple weeks.

Good news: That put fire under my ass and made me finally drag this thing into the gameroom, where it’s gotta be in the winter to really dig in. Now that Justin’s moving on the PF, need to finish stripping and get on the cab work.

Bad news: Back side of the cab and rear bottom edge is much rougher than I thought. Looks like it may have gotten some minor-moderate moisture damage at some point in its life. Might have to be totally redone.

Replacing a full wall of a cab is not something I’ve tackled before...

It’s a shame, because the rest of the cab is in pretty damn good shape. A little bit of chipping up by the back box grate too.

I think it is still usable for this project. Looks like it’s time to up my carpentry experience and knowledge base so it’s done the right way.

Gotta say, I bought and just watched the new Halloween to get me in the mood to do more on this project again tomorrow.

A little disappointed. For a sequel that had so much potential, they really could’ve done much more with it. Glad that I went with the original for my theme. Much scarier.

Quoted from Sinestro:

I thought it was great.

Really? I didn’t think it was horrible, it was good. But Laurie hiding out in a bunker-like compound and preparing to do battle, training her kid in true Sarah Connor style? I just wasn’t really “scared” watching it. Definitely a different, eerie feeling watching the original.

I’ll have to watch it a second time.

Quoted from alexanr1:

I am watching this tread in hopes of seeing how you redo the playfield artwork. I am looking to retheme a gameplan cocktail pinball machine (Foxy Lady). Really need a lot of help/insights on how to do the playfield.
Please share details on this process

Thanks for following. I’ll definitely share details. This has been slow going, but I wasn’t expecting to complete this project quickly. Was busy most of the winter unexpectedly at work so it’s been a slower process.

The playfield art will be an overlay, then clearcoated with Varathane at my buddy’s shop.

Quoted from Sinestro:

The scene where they transfer Michael and she's in the car with the gun is very effective. The ending in the house was well shot too, I thought.

Agreed on that. And the music during that scene was perfect. I’m a big score guy, as a musician.

And I agree on the opening scene being a little odd too. Although it was interesting seeing the male doctor being the actor from Tom Hardy’s series Taboo on FX. I haven’t seen him in much else.

The dead pumpkin coming back was a nice touch for those who got the metaphor. The ending was kind of abrupt with the granddaughter just holding the knife as well.

#238 5 years ago
Quoted from Sinestro:

Oh, I liked the opening scene. I was talking about the doctor wearing the mask scene as being odd.

Oh yeah, that was weird. The “new Loomis” per JLC. At least he didn’t have it on long. Opening scene was odd, but necessary and a bit freaky. It wasn’t bad.

Like I said, I’ll have to watch it again to really absorb it. It would’ve been better in the theater. Should’ve seen it then.

Will you clean up/re-install the bottom plate? Since you are re theming, would it matter? Some of my early Bally/Williams have it, others don't ...

The question in front of me now...stencils or decals?

Justin’s draft he shared with me a few weeks ago is pretty simple, so airbrushing it wouldn’t be a problem. Once he sends me a colorized draft, I’ll share it.

We are in the process of adding some more artwork thinking they would be decals, obviously with higher resolution images, but I’m still thinking stencils would give it a more authentic 1979 feel.

It wouldn’t let me add a poll. Thoughts?

#258 5 years ago
Quoted from Atari_Daze:

Very glad to see progress again here!
Stencils get my vote.

Thanks George, I knew this game would be a process, being my first total retheme. Just really anticipated having more time the last couple months but it hasn’t worked out that way.

Thankfully I’ve had Lloyd and a few people hanging out with me during the process still.

#260 5 years ago
Quoted from Evilive69:

Given the time period of the theme I would go with a stencil for the cab. Something minimalist, 3 or 4 colors...black, orange, white maybe a little yellow.

That’s almost along the lines of exactly what I was thinking Joe. In the mock up design I already have “Halloween” in the original movie font on each side in orange, and on the front under the coin door where “Jungle Lord” had been.

#263 5 years ago
Quoted from PJKools:

Has to be stencils.
Also curious...what does the JC stand for? Is this a Jesus Christ re-theme?...I don’t think he will be happy.

Are you going to replace the back wood panel?

My friend’s dad is a woodworker, carpenter for a long time. I shot him some pics. He told me to sand it down and put a slight coat of patch across the bottom given that it’s particleboard, and after sanding it it’s actually much more even. I’m still debating though.

#270 4 years ago

The sheet metal inside is cleaning up nicely, so I think I’ll leave it and just cover it before my buddy sprays the head and cab at his paint shop. It needs some patching on the corners and a few other tiny places regardless.

Going to lay a black matte base coat, then stencil it, then clearcoat it.

If you don't re-do your bb light board then clear coat the back side you haven't got full blown OCD.

I remember when you did that! I certainly have moderate OCD, you just have it on a more substantial level.

In all honesty, is it difficult tacking the harnesses, sockets and ground wires back on through the clearcoat? I cleared the front, but didn’t clear the back and that was one of my concerns.

I decided not to skimp out. It would be idiotic to do all this work and not replace the crappy deteriorated rear panel on the cab. Only defective part on the entire cabinet.

Some of the top layer of ply had some cracks and was bubbling pretty bad in the front, so decided to cut those chunks away.

For those kind of flat sections I customarily use this. Works great, and two applications with copious amounts and sanding usually fills in the gaps nicely and makes it solid again.

I’ve found if you don’t cut away bubbling sections, it will crack again at some point and through the new paint. You live and you learn.

Still want to mix up some fiberglass patch for the top rear corners.

Have you started any artwork yet?

Absolutely. Playfield is going a little slow, but the cabinet art should be done and stenciled on next week. Another artist reached out to me to assist, so maybe he’ll be able to step in and speed up the playfield art.

Quoted from bssbllr:

^^^ I agree with him, tomorrow nights the night and Mr. Myers can’t wait.

Yeah, that’s not going to happen. Was raining when I was supposed to stencil the cab last week.

I didn’t want to rush this thing and have it look or play like crap, which would be discouraging as my first retheme.

It will be done by PinFest in May, so you’ll be able to flip on it there. And if it’s done before then, and either of you fellas are in my area, feel free to swing by and give it a whirl.

Quoted from J85M:

colsond3 I know you have possibly mentioned it in this thread or via our chats about Halloween in pm but it slips my mind if you have ever mentioned on your plans for the players perspective, are you planning on having the player be Micheal or Laurie?

My thought initially was Michael, but other than Laurie and Loomis, I wasn’t sure if there were enough centralized characters for the rule/task set. Michael attacking/murdering other people as the point of the game would be very cool, and I’m trying to stick with that.

I don’t really want the point being to kill Michael (plus that’s not really possible).

Any input is certainly welcome.

Have you got round to drawing up your ruleset/modes yet?

I do remember chatting. Still waiting on the board from Pinball Dreams. Ordered 2 weeks ago, so I thought I would’ve had it by now. My buddy just finished rebuilding the original PSB this past weekend.

Those modes sound cool. I’m working on the LCD monitor with the Raspberry Pi, which was originally going in the apron but now I think it’s going to be mounted on the PF somewhere.

I’m not quite sure how I’m going to integrate the movie clips from the Pi into the ruleset yet. That’s a bit beyond my technical expertise, especially working with this All-in-One board that I’m not all that familiar with.

Any updates Colson ?

Been trying to work on the art. The guy in LA I had working on the art package has been disappointing...isn’t moving anywhere near fast enough. Keeps telling me he’ll send me the files but then flakes and tells me it’s not completed.

I reached out to two other people, but they want between $2500 and $5000 to make their own art package, with exclusive creative control of the art (which I’m not inclined to do). They don’t want to pick up where Justin left off.

So I’ve been playing with some of the snips of artwork Justin did send to me, just working on it myself. I’ll see how it comes out over the Christmas break and then decide where to go from there.

Have you tried dropping ZY a pm for some ideas/directions? I’m sure he would give you some pointers Jeremy seems super nice and seems to genuinely love pinball and he obviously loves/is amazing at pinball art.

I haven’t, but I’ve met him at a few shows. Maybe I should. Still trying to keep it fairly simple on the cabinet, PF obviously will be more intricate and integrated.

Bump. I know other projects have been going on but any news on this one?

Yeah man! Following a drought getting screwed by the last artist, and trying to finagle the artwork myself, got a friend & awesome local artist (Franny Drummond) on the project.

He didn’t have time before when I started this endeavor, but I stopped by his shop two weeks ago to see if he could help with my Spidey cab resto.

He actually remembered and asked if I was still doing the Halloween game. I was stoked as hell. Said he’d have time to jump on it end of July or early August.

Franny does the helmets for the NCAA and got way backed up once they sporadically decided to re-institute their season. Plus the house sale has been annoyingly time-consuming.

Planned on being done with it around Christmas as I mentioned above, but then a few things happened, he got busy again, I was buying some other games, then ended up needing another unexepected abdominal surgery.

Sometimes pinball has to take the back seat.

Getting back on my feet though, and want to get aggressive with this thing. Will definitely be ready by Halloween this year, if not sooner. Definitely a huge undertaking and challenge doing a retheme and wanting it to look great, and not just cheaply and quickly done.

Plus this game will be all airbrushed with real art and original. Not just decals I threw together cutting and pasting from Photoshop, printed and slapped all over the game like stickers.

It will be worth it in the end.

Awesome work! The house on the cab is incredible!! Looking forwards to seeing the future progress!! Problem is you've made such an excellent job on the cab, the bar is insanely high for the rest of it!!

I hear you there...some of the cab artwork is being transferred to the PF and BG to finish those up, and to keep it uniform. Still playing with two designs and revising for the upper PF.

Still have some serious work to do...was playing with the mini screen for the apron a little last night and snipping some scenes. Sure I've had some hiccups with timing and a few intervening things, but damn...retheming a game is a lot of damn work.

Looking great! How will the art be done, direct paint on wood then clear or a custom painted overlay?

Thanks man! You certainly know how much work it is to go this far on a game. I may actually reach out to you with a few questions as I’m getting towards the final steps of the process.

I debated that for a while the last two weeks. But I don’t really like the way overlays feel. And clearing over them can be problematic.

So decided on direct paint when Franny and I were finishing up the art yesterday.

And I’m going to try something a little different. Clearing twice with wet sanding in between before doing the inserts and final clear. Trying to give them somewhat of a 3-D effect. We’ll see how it works.

Not sure if your game will have speech or not but maybe you can borrow some of their voice assets for your game. Getting Loomis to say "jackpot" or "player 1 is up" isnt something you can pull from the movies directly.

Yeah, I wouldn’t want to rip anything from their game, and not just for IP concerns. I like Spooky. Charlie has a company to run, mouths to feed, and I am just one guy doing a homebrew retheme with help from one or two other friends intermittently.

I still want mine to be completely different and original, so continuing on as planned.

Quoted from Betelgeuse:

I can understand how you must feel, Colsond. I completed a retheme of a Flash Gordon into Ghostbusters in 2012. I never would have imagined a Ghostbusters game would actually get made, but then just a few years later Stern released theirs!

That game looks friggin awesome. Nice work. I appreciate the words of comfort.

It’s a little disheartening, but it’s life. It would be cool if a manufacturer gave guys like us the heads up, if they are being made concurrently, before we go and spend thousands of dollars and a shit ton of hours on a retheme. At least that would be courteous.

The most disappointing was people that have asked me to bring it to upcoming shows, which I am still going to do. But before I was off the wall excited...now it certainly won’t stand out as much.

Slated to work on the playfield more this weekend, so I’m barreling forward.

This game is still going to kick ass. And as Lloyd said, will still be one of a kind. Like your GB.

Quoted from Calfdemon:

On a side note, when are you coming back to SoCal? Wasn't able to have you over last time (pre-Covid) just due to scheduling stuff, but maybe we can get together the next time. We can grab some beers at Pocock as well, and Telco Brewery which is another that opened close to Pocock. I think Telco has a lonely single STTNG pin sitting in it, while last I checked, Pocock has EBD, NF, and MM.

I appreciate all the motivational words. And the sentiment.

Most definitely. Should be heading out to Castaic hopefully in the next few months. I hit Pocock last time I was out there, And that NF was desperately in need of a shop job. Cool bar though. Good beer.

I’ll get in touch with you when I’m out that way. Thanks for following this game. I certainly appreciate everyone that does. It’s been a long time in the making.

Quoted from ThatOneDude:

I'll admit, my Stranger Things homebrew died when Stern dropped theirs. Arguably, I have a cooler theme now...but I certainly get it.

Before Halloween, I was considering doing V for Vendetta or a Tool music pin. Still glad I made this choice.

Quoted from Betelgeuse:

This is an early vid from when the machine still had some technical issues to work out, but it shows it off pretty well...

That pin came out awesome man!

Quoted from Zablon:

Keep plugging away Colsond3. You have much more creative freedom most likely to do what you want.

So, was working on the upper PF for the last two hours, and thought I'd throw a partial rule set out before Spooky releases their layout or content. Saw one of the translites got thrown out there.

On my game, you are playing as Michael. The goal is to kill people.

Upper PF - the shooter lane is the escape from Smith's Grove Sanitarium, including a toy model I'm trying to fit on the playfield. The bagatelle on the upper left PF (with 4 slots) is where you ditch the hospital gown and collect the jumpsuit, boots, the Shatner mask and a knife. For those not familiar with Jungle Lord, there is a mini-ball launched into one of the four bagatelle / pachinko lanes by trapping the ball in one of the two saucer kickouts (or by completing one of the drop banks).

The original "L-O-R-D" letters on the bagatelle area have been converted to "K-I-L-L".

Once you have all four items / the Kill inserts lit, Slasher multiball starts (and the fun).

#485 2 years ago

And forgot to post this before I started. Pulled off a sliver of mylar next to the kickout that looked like it had been on since day one. Playfield underneath was brand new.

At least a glimpse for me of what this game probably looked like when it was fresh out of the box.

After a short break to deal with my grief (LOL), got back to it.

Made some revisions to the playfield this past weekend. I also had knife art in some of the lanes, Michael between the lower flips, etc. (didn’t want people to think I overlapped with Spooky’s game).

Happy with the changes, but set me back a tad. Hopefully I can get it done in the next week or so.

Coin door reassembled and installed. Just need an eject pin, and have to polish the return flap.

So my buddy has been busy and I have been getting killed at the office, so finishing the playfields has been slower than I thought.

So a week ago I decided to step up the effort on this game and hopefully add a cool element.

Nice smaller McFarlane figure. Boring out the head, neck and waist and installing pins and two servos.

Then I’ll run a relay to trip off the 3 target drop bank on the left bottom PF. So when those targets are all dropped before reset, Michael will sit up, then turn his head.

Quoted from roffels:

That retheme is an interesting one, because it was commissioned by a member of Metallica, and was done by Dirty Donnie, who went on to do the art for Stern.

Definitely. I always thought that’s what spawned Stern’s interest in proceeding with the game.

The Sparky in my MET was painted by Donnie himself. It’s bad ass.

That's gonna look freaking awesome! Much better than multiple mini Michaels visible behind bushes!

Definitely. The challenge will be fitting it in the game. This is one of those times I wish I had chosen an alphanum or DMD game to do this with.

But again, I really wanted the game to be true to the time period. As if it were released when the original two movies were.

Quoted from Palmer:

Curious why you chose to have vinyl wrap for art then. Would have made sense to do a stenciled cab if you wanted to stay true to the time period, no?

What is this amateur hour? Haha. Surely you jest. Mackey is correct, as posted earlier in the thread.

All of the art was airbrushed by hand looking at existing pictures. There are telling inconsistencies, like the pillars of the porch on the house on the left lower cab being slightly crooked. But I like that.

The only thing that is vinyl are the Halloween letters and orange pin striping.

The artwork was airbrushed, pinstripe added then clearcoat. Vinyl letters were then cut for sides and front, applied, then two more coats of clear.

Here’s the side of the backbox before we clearcoated the first time. Clearly not a decal. And you can see our color testing on the workbench under the backbox.

The cab alone took us almost 40 hours. Here is a close-up of the house.

Then clear coat knocked down with 2000 and 3000 grit, then buffed. This thing is the equivalent of the butter cabinet, if not more shiny.

I stand corrected! I must of missed that info. That’s actually amazing how much detail went into airbrushing.

Definitely. Thanks. I did some of the chunky stuff and base, but he did most of it and all the serious detail. Franny is a sick artist. Just wish he wasn’t so damn busy.

Every time I walk by it when I’m down in the gameroom, the detailed eye really freaks me the hell out. Love it.

Some progress. Got the tilt/chime/pot board in, ran most of the ground braid and wired some things up.

Threw a trans red shooter rod on…for now. Given that Spooky used the knife handle idea, someone offered to work on something custom for me.

Now this thing is starting to feel like a game again finally.
