I don’t plan on reinstalling it. Those plates were only there to prevent people in arcades from kicking in the bottom of the game to access/pilfer the coin box. No need for it anymore.
The question in front of me now...stencils or decals?
Justin’s draft he shared with me a few weeks ago is pretty simple, so airbrushing it wouldn’t be a problem. Once he sends me a colorized draft, I’ll share it.
We are in the process of adding some more artwork thinking they would be decals, obviously with higher resolution images, but I’m still thinking stencils would give it a more authentic 1979 feel.
It wouldn’t let me add a poll. Thoughts?
Quoted from Atari_Daze:Very glad to see progress again here!
Stencils get my vote.
Thanks George, I knew this game would be a process, being my first total retheme. Just really anticipated having more time the last couple months but it hasn’t worked out that way.
Thankfully I’ve had Lloyd and a few people hanging out with me during the process still.
Given the time period of the theme I would go with a stencil for the cab. Something minimalist, 3 or 4 colors...black, orange, white maybe a little yellow.

That’s almost along the lines of exactly what I was thinking Joe. In the mock up design I already have “Halloween” in the original movie font on each side in orange, and on the front under the coin door where “Jungle Lord” had been.
Has to be stencils.
Also curious...what does the JC stand for? Is this a Jesus Christ re-theme?...I don’t think he will be happy.

There’s the peanut gallery...
John Carpenter. Lay off the juice and weights bro, go back and read the first post.

Eh...That’s seems like a lot of work. You got me there...totally thought you meant JL and it’s been bugging me for months.
Quoted from MustangPaul:Are you going to replace the back wood panel?
My friend’s dad is a woodworker, carpenter for a long time. I shot him some pics. He told me to sand it down and put a slight coat of patch across the bottom given that it’s particleboard, and after sanding it it’s actually much more even. I’m still debating though.
The sheet metal inside is cleaning up nicely, so I think I’ll leave it and just cover it before my buddy sprays the head and cab at his paint shop. It needs some patching on the corners and a few other tiny places regardless.
Going to lay a black matte base coat, then stencil it, then clearcoat it.

Who the hell polishes a backbox lock mech? Called full-blown OCD.

Quoted from MustangPaul:If you don't re-do your bb light board then clear coat the back side you haven't got full blown OCD.
I remember when you did that! I certainly have moderate OCD, you just have it on a more substantial level.
In all honesty, is it difficult tacking the harnesses, sockets and ground wires back on through the clearcoat? I cleared the front, but didn’t clear the back and that was one of my concerns.

On Jackbot it's all wires no ground braid that has to be stalped and the sockets are the push through kind. I taped all the wires up like this after cleaning and numbering so I was sure to get them in the right holes.

I decided not to skimp out. It would be idiotic to do all this work and not replace the crappy deteriorated rear panel on the cab. Only defective part on the entire cabinet.
Guy was supposed to take it to finally spray the basecoat today, but I told him to hold off for a few days so I could work on it.

Yup, and I’m going to use 3/4” plywood. None of this MDF or particleboard crap.

Excellent. I’m heading out there in two weeks. I’ll have to re-create the scene too. I have the coordinates.
Thanks for following. I cut the new back panel this week for the cabinet, and I’ll be getting back to it in a week or two. Dealing with a terminal illness of a close family member right now.

Sorry to hear of your issues. I'm excited to see how this turns out. Looks like you are going to have something really awesome at the end of this journey! Keep it up!
I like when individuals make re-themes, Stern sees the hype and interest then gets the license and makes the game for real.

Colson, DAMN sorry to hear that. I hope they will be at peace soon and you can the rest of the family can start to heal from the loss.
George
Trying to get back into the swing of things after a few horrible weeks. Was able to stop by the powdercoater the other day. Did a lot of the metal in illusion cherry. Even parts from inside the cabinet and backbox.

I'm very interested in watching how it progresses and turns out. Should be awesome!

Cool. Thanks for following. Should be working on the cabinet today or tomorrow. Have to paint it outdoors though, and the weather hasn’t really been cooperating. Way too much humidity.
Quoted from J85M:Glad to see your back colsond3 and I hope your family are as well as can be expected in this difficult time.
Look forward to seeing more progress on this and here’s a little gif to get you in the mood!
Thanks man. And that GIF did help.
Quoted from bssbllr:Man going all out. That things gonna be worth living for. Really love the details much respect.
That’s what I do. Haha. I don’t think there’s a metal part I didn’t coat. We all have OCD in this hobby, and I’m pretty bad. This is the same color I used on my Vampire resto. You can’t really see it in these pics, but there is really fine black speckling mixed in this powder too.
Thanks for the family comment too. Much appreciated.
