Quoted from ectobar:Colson v Spooky! Who you got?
I knew that was coming. Heard it a while back, and someone mentioned it in this thread as well. Congrats to Spooky. My game will still be unique, and not the same game everyone else who buys theirs will have.
Quoted from curban:Will you be getting the Spooky version?
…judging from your collection and history, I’m guessing “eventually” is the probable answer.
Quoted from curban:…judging from your collection and history, I’m guessing “eventually” is the probable answer.
Hahaha. I'll have to see it first. Had an AMH a long time ago, and didn't like it too much as the playfield wasn't that exciting to shoot. But it was Spooky’s first game. I do like ACNC and TNA a lot.
Quoted from djreddog:were you able to secure full assets?
Hahaha. Should I consider a motion for injunctive relief? It's all good. Like I said, I heard a few months ago this was most likely coming. Long after I started on my Halloween journey.
Quoted from Colsond3:My game will still be unique, and not the same game everyone else who buys theirs will have.
And amazing. You have a loyal following and people are anxious to see your work.

Thanks man.

Awesome Lloyd. Much appreciated. It does suck a little knowing mine will be overshadowed, but it is what it is.
Was working on my lower playfield last night, it should be done in the next two weeks.
Quoted from Colsond3:Awesome Lloyd. Much appreciated. It does suck a little knowing mine will be overshadowed, but it is what it is.
Its your own work bro, be proud! Not something you can buy like everyone else's.
Quoted from Colsond3:It does suck a little knowing mine will be overshadowed,
Never happen.
If you were going into production, maybe.
Being it's a one of, it will be unique and appreciated as such.

I am so glad you did this project. Soo many haters out there about Spooky releasing this theme. You prove people wanted this. Thank you sir!

Definitely a theme I’ve always wanted. A little bitter sweet still at the moment. Perhaps they saw me getting close to the finish line on mine and wanted to beat me to the release? LOL.
I actually got a PM from Charlie today complimenting my efforts so far. Good dude.

Not sure if your game will have speech or not but maybe you can borrow some of their voice assets for your game. Getting Loomis to say "jackpot" or "player 1 is up" isnt something you can pull from the movies directly.

I'm trying to get Flash Gordon II done before you get your pin done, some incentive perhaps?

Yeah, I wouldn’t want to rip anything from their game, and not just for IP concerns. I like Spooky. Charlie has a company to run, mouths to feed, and I am just one guy doing a homebrew retheme with help from one or two other friends intermittently.
I still want mine to be completely different and original, so continuing on as planned.

Whos going to tell him?
Quoted from Betelgeuse:I can understand how you must feel, Colsond. I completed a retheme of a Flash Gordon into Ghostbusters in 2012. I never would have imagined a Ghostbusters game would actually get made, but then just a few years later Stern released theirs!
That game looks friggin awesome. Nice work. I appreciate the words of comfort.
It’s a little disheartening, but it’s life. It would be cool if a manufacturer gave guys like us the heads up, if they are being made concurrently, before we go and spend thousands of dollars and a shit ton of hours on a retheme. At least that would be courteous.
The most disappointing was people that have asked me to bring it to upcoming shows, which I am still going to do. But before I was off the wall excited...now it certainly won’t stand out as much.
Slated to work on the playfield more this weekend, so I’m barreling forward.
This game is still going to kick ass. And as Lloyd said, will still be one of a kind. Like your GB.

I get this, but I also understand why this would never happen. Every company does whatever they can to prevent leaks and not saying you would, but notifying a hobbyist who is working on a homebrew ahead of time could seriously jeopardize their reveal. That is one more mouth with info, and someone they do not control.
I get how this took some of the wind out of your sails, but don't let it. Your version will be a one of a kind and be completely different. The only thing here that is the same is the theme. I am sure your rules, sounds, and art will be completely different resulting in a completely different gameplay. Add into that the fact that yours is done by one person at home and not something that is coming off of a production line, and yours is that much more special. Anyone that gets to play it will be thrilled that they had the opportunity. Still following along with a lot of interest!!
On a side note, when are you coming back to SoCal? Wasn't able to have you over last time (pre-Covid) just due to scheduling stuff, but maybe we can get together the next time. We can grab some beers at Pocock as well, and Telco Brewery which is another that opened close to Pocock. I think Telco has a lonely single STTNG pin sitting in it, while last I checked, Pocock has EBD, NF, and MM.

I appreciate all the motivational words. And the sentiment.
Most definitely. Should be heading out to Castaic hopefully in the next few months. I hit Pocock last time I was out there, And that NF was desperately in need of a shop job. Cool bar though. Good beer.
I’ll get in touch with you when I’m out that way. Thanks for following this game. I certainly appreciate everyone that does. It’s been a long time in the making.

That was the same with the rethemed EarthShaker into Metallica.

Ha! I'm sure they all need a good shop job now after sitting in closed breweries for the past year. Let me know when you plan to be out and what days you are staying. If I am in town (gone first 2 weeks of August), Ill have you over to play some games at my place and we can hit the breweries as well. Made a few friends in town recently that have some collections, so maybe get some games in on theirs as well.
Quoted from Zablon:Ohh is there video of this anywhere?
This is an early vid from when the machine still had some technical issues to work out, but it shows it off pretty well...
Quoted from chad:That was the same with the rethemed EarthShaker into Metallica.
Good call. There was an AC/DC custom before the Stern game too.
And a Walking Dead comic version made from a Barracora.
I'll admit, my Stranger Things homebrew died when Stern dropped theirs. Arguably, I have a cooler theme now...but I certainly get it.
Quoted from ThatOneDude:I'll admit, my Stranger Things homebrew died when Stern dropped theirs. Arguably, I have a cooler theme now...but I certainly get it.
Before Halloween, I was considering doing V for Vendetta or a Tool music pin. Still glad I made this choice.

That pin came out awesome man!
Quoted from Zablon:Keep plugging away Colsond3. You have much more creative freedom most likely to do what you want.
So, was working on the upper PF for the last two hours, and thought I'd throw a partial rule set out before Spooky releases their layout or content. Saw one of the translites got thrown out there.
On my game, you are playing as Michael. The goal is to kill people.
Upper PF - the shooter lane is the escape from Smith's Grove Sanitarium, including a toy model I'm trying to fit on the playfield. The bagatelle on the upper left PF (with 4 slots) is where you ditch the hospital gown and collect the jumpsuit, boots, the Shatner mask and a knife. For those not familiar with Jungle Lord, there is a mini-ball launched into one of the four bagatelle / pachinko lanes by trapping the ball in one of the two saucer kickouts (or by completing one of the drop banks).
The original "L-O-R-D" letters on the bagatelle area have been converted to "K-I-L-L".
Once you have all four items / the Kill inserts lit, Slasher multiball starts (and the fun).
Quoted from Colsond3:I actually got a PM from Charlie today complimenting my efforts so far. Good dude.
Hey! Steve Ritchie never PMd me when they made Led Zeppelin! Wtf!
rd
And forgot to post this before I started. Pulled off a sliver of mylar next to the kickout that looked like it had been on since day one. Playfield underneath was brand new.
At least a glimpse for me of what this game probably looked like when it was fresh out of the box.

Made some revisions to the playfield this past weekend. I also had knife art in some of the lanes, Michael between the lower flips, etc. (didn’t want people to think I overlapped with Spooky’s game).
Happy with the changes, but set me back a tad. Hopefully I can get it done in the next week or so.
Pesonally, I much prefer the cab artwork on your game than the Spooky game... Spooky's is WAY too colourful and busy for my liking, yours is genuine 1 off art and has turned out incredible IMO... perfect in fact!

I agree 100%! I love Halloween and all the related films. I would never have dreamed a production game would ever be made. I have one ordered but Colson your cabinet art blows Spooky’s away. I’m really excited to see and play the machine when you are finished. Hopefully you will bring it to the Allentown show next year.
Nice smaller McFarlane figure. Boring out the head, neck and waist and installing pins and two servos.
Then I’ll run a relay to trip off the 3 target drop bank on the left bottom PF. So when those targets are all dropped before reset, Michael will sit up, then turn his head.

That retheme is an interesting one, because it was commissioned by a member of Metallica, and was done by Dirty Donnie, who went on to do the art for Stern.

Definitely. I always thought that’s what spawned Stern’s interest in proceeding with the game.
The Sparky in my MET was painted by Donnie himself. It’s bad ass.
