I think Spooky deserves more credit here. If you don't agree thats cool. I sold my preorder spot at a loss months ago because I was nervous based on some of the negative press this game had been getting. I have to say that this is one UNDERRATED game. If you agree then lets hear it!

I personally love the crazy layout that makes you think and find out whats next. I've never played a game that is quite like this.
I also love the music and video integration. If you like the movie COME ON! it's great!
The sounds are great. when that soft piano starts I'm all in!
The call outs are good.
The light show is fantastic.
The playfield art looks great when the game is on and the inserts are glowing. I have learned to appreciate that more.
The hedge shots are actually not that easy as one might think.
The loops are fun
The modes are great. (still learning)
The mini-playfields are a hoot and challenging.
The subways to flippers actually work well (not sure why some have said this stinks) It's something DIFFERENT!

as a whole I think they did the pin quite well and when people come over here they like Halloween a lot.

I’m honestly puzzled at the flack this title has gotten. Time will straighten this out. My other games sit jealous! My whole family and friends loves this game and all say it’s their favorite.

I know. I unboxed JP premium and my friends have played halloween and not JP yet. hahahah
Halloween also makes me want to keep playing. I turn it on every chance I get.

Appreciate you guys!

I was talking with a distributor today and we both agree people will end up wanting this game more and more as it is played at home in a good setting to appreciate it.

I have not seen any of the Halloween movies and I have this pin. The family and I love it! It gets as much play time as Godzilla, by me. For what I paid for the CE I feel I got a bargain when compared to TS4.

All I need is a Scooby Doo pin Spooky Luke! Please make this happen! So many modes could be had with all the “ghost” from the first season alone.

Upper playfield going through doors running away from the ghost. Have a Mystery Machine that locks balls Like Turtles. Mode were Thelma has to find her glasses.

Instead of blood points like Halloween, you can have Scooby Snack point’s.

Would love to have SD next to Halloween. Please make it happen and only use original first two years seasons.

Man you really need to watch the first movie at least! You own a 10k pinball machine based on the movie

No it isn’t! Because I have played it multiple times and damn is it fresh and fun!

I bought it for my wife. Her and my daughters are horror fans. I definitely will watch it. The bluray is sitting on top of the back box

LOL for real! I don't have the pin but always have thought it looks awesome, gameplay and theme integration looks great, and I hope to add it to the collection someday. I am such a fan of the original film that when travelling in California earlier this year I visited multiple filming locations in Pasadena. And I was able to confirm that not only is the original hedge intact, there are several rows of hedges for the next door houses, which is exactly what the pin looks like. I even took the obligatory picture peeking around the hedge (but it looked a little creepy and not in a good way).

Have never watched Halloween? Damn

It’s def much better than it gets credit for.

If the code gets finished off and some graphics improved it will be in high demand

Gotta tweak my pretzel shot though

I haven’t played it but put a couple of games on Ultraman and liked the game. I’d love to get a CE of Halloween if someone ever wants to give up their spot.

#13 1 year ago

I’m at the end of the line (BSE) but I’ve played both HW and UM and think they’re fun as hell. I really don’t care if the Pinside snark mob doesn’t like it (or anybody else for that matter). People around here have a propensity to shoot major airballs on their opinions on new games. I like games that are unique shooters and there’s nothing like these two. Glad you like yours and can’t wait for mine to be built.

Wish I felt the same as The original Halloween is one of my favorite films. I was so excited when it was announced but Sadly I felt this pin was a huge letdown. Owned it for 3 weeks and then Got rid of it at a loss. The novelty was cool at first, but wore off quickly for me. Sure it is one beautiful machine - no argument there. If I were rich and had unlimited space, I would have kept it as a beautiful collectors piece. It looks THAT good! No joke. More importantly for me, I Just didn’t enjoy how it played at all after the initial excitement wore off. 3 of the same shots make up the entire left side, 2 uninspired ramps in the middle, no pops, annoying subway/ drop wait times, and I learned quickly I’m not a fan of multiple mini upper playfields that take up a ton of space and have zero risk factors. All my buddies agreed that it just didn’t play all that well so it wasn’t just me.
It all comes down to personal preferences - some will love it and some will hate it. IMO, It fits best in a home lineup within a decent sized collection when you are looking to play something unique and different. 6/10

Uninspired ramps is a new one. I have yet to play a game with a ramp and immediately feel inspired. "Wow, that ramp was so inspiring that I decided to quit my job and join the Peace Corps!".

OK I'll use the term boring then. Feel better?

It’s an excellent game. Only reason I am selling mine is to prepare my household for the major recession coming.

I like the game and its going to stay in my collection for a while. I admit I'm not a great player and I struggle to hit the hedge shots with any consistency. I also struggle with the butt pretzel playfield.. If staged balls are added this would be a very big plus for me to speed things up. I would almost be willing to fund the programming for this. Almost. lol

#21 1 year ago

Halloween is an awesome challenging but rewarding game. I feel you have to stay with it and it will keep getting better. For example, I originally had trouble hitting skill shots off the initial plunge.

One day I selected a skill shot I knew I could hit and just let the ball dead flip to the other flipper. From there, I was able to hit the shot I selected with little to no issues.

Also, I like having games in my collection that are different and contain lastability which I feel Halloween has for sure!

I can assure you Halloween has been getting played more than my other games lately and that includes Godzilla!!

It has that just one more ball feeling too which I appreciate.

My friends like it and we all play it!

This game will keep getting better and once it does everyone will come back who originally doubted it.

(If it's too hard, get better, you will get better if you keep trying).

Halloween is definitely a hard game with some tough shots but you know the deal..........Play Better? I have a long ways to go!

I sold godzilla LE as I liked it and still do but, it just didnt call me to replay it. It was always one game and shut it off. Halloween, I look at my watch and say CRAP its bedtime.

#24 1 year ago
Quoted from John-Floyd:

See that's actually something I like about the game. Especially during multiballs, the subways give me some much needed time to slow down and aim my shots. It's gonna be a while before I get those hedge shots dialed in but that's okay! I enjoy the challenge.

I wonder if you would have liked a GZ Pro better. While I’m waiting for my HWN (another 6 months … urrrgh), I just played 15 games in a row on GZ. It it’s a “one more game” avalanche

I wish I could experience this game deeper. Only played it a few times at our local pinball show last fall and thought it was mediocre. I could only get hedge multi ball going, didn’t know what to shoot for, and the upper playfields were hard to get to. I think a lot has changed since then and just waiting for my bro to get his standard game so we can play the shit out of it. I have ACNC and absolutely think that game kicks ass. I like what Spooky is doing so keep it up guys, build quality games and keep the code updates coming.

#27 1 year ago

Game is spiffy. To deny it is plain....not spiffy

Totally unique machine

#28 1 year ago

I have played it on freeplay at several events but never "got it". Might be because I'm not a horror movie fan in the first place.

The game is simply boring and uninspiring, layout is wonky in a bad way and theme does nothing for me.

If you like it then great, it's just not my cup of tea.

I know this may be tough, but try to play one in a quiet environment. I played one at Pintastic and thought "This is neat, but it's not making sense". Now that I've played it at a pinball place during quiet times it's a whole new game. Some of it is NOT intuitive at first, like how to play the upper playfields. But when you've got the pin guiding you audibly, it changes a lot.

#30 1 year ago

It truly is a great game! Layout is really original, the upper playfields are really fun, and the theme is amazing!

#31 1 year ago

Glad it's been a success for the boys. I did predict it wouldn't last in most collections as the movie is pretty thin on content, but they seem to find new ideas to keep it alive.

Like movies, pinball can have 'cult classics' - not massively popular when they first come out but they stick around long after the blockbusters have been forgotten, gaining a steadily growing fanbase. Famously, E.T. went head-to-head with Blade Runner in 1982. Which one is most popular today?

So I'd say Halloween is defiantly a 'cult classic'.

#32 1 year ago

Just finishing up a game night with newbies. Halloween was the main attraction again. I have a pretty diverse lineup but Halloween seems to be the main attraction. Also just added Michael to the topper as an awesome Father’s Day present

I feel like Rocky Horror is a Cult Classic. I feel Halloween is just a Classic as it is on the entire month of October on so many stations its very mainstream. I even saw it was on the other night on a very random June evening.

Regardless the game really keeps me coming back.

Halloween is absolutely not a “cult” film. It was the most successful independent film for 28 years (until Blair Witch), and ran in theaters for an entire summer, has been re-released numerous times, issued on dvd and bluray countless times (at least every 5 years), and have you seen the house it built for John Carpenter?!

#35 1 year ago

There's one criticism that keeps cropping up I don't fully understand. People say there's hardly anything to do on the left side, but I look at all the machines I've seen and played - and left side almost always consists of left ramp, left orbit, plus standups. Occasionally there's also a single scoop but that's generally it. Halloween also has left ramp, left orbit, standups plus *multiple* scoops, so I'm at a bit of a loss here... Is it purely because people think the scoops are just duplicated or take up too much real estate on the playfield, or is it just because the right side is busier with all the mini playfields etc? It just doesn't seem like a valid criticism. Granted I've yet to play one...

The comparison between this game in a more public venue such as a bar or arcade and playing it at home in a quieter, darkened space is stunning. I really feel that it is the best way to appreciate this game. I'm not a great pinball player but thoroughly playing and have since I was a kid some 50 years ago (minus or add a few..haha). We own other games including Deadpool which we enjoy, but Halloween remains the go to game for us as well as out friends who visit. Kind of finding that truly unique home in a subdivison of cookie cutter homes. They each have their distinctions, but that truly unique home just provides a different experience. Keep it going Spooky!!!!

Because the scoops are only really used in MB; therefore the left side has basically one function.
There are blood targets over there as well, but when playing most things you are focus is on the right side. Add in that the Mini PF events can take many attempts/completed shots to them; it's got a lot of right side bias.

How are you feeling about the game so far? How long have you had it? I haven't played it yet, but plan to at Pincinnati this year. I'm at the end of the line so I've tried to avoid looking for the daily rantings of the owner's thread since many early complaints seem to have been resolved or are due to be fixed with updated code, as far as I can tell.

I actually enjoy it but it has some annoying parts, mine seems to need constant little tweaking to keep it playing correctly. Minor annoyances really. I have some thoughts in another thread or two.

#41 1 year ago

Found some thoughts I had

Quoted from TheLaw:

Some thoughts I had 3 weeks ago with a couple added. The #1 thing is it feels like a real legitimate pinball machine.
Its a mixed bag now but it has some really good things going for it.
The pumpkin modes are actually really varied, unique, and fun.
There is a lot of negative shots in the game you need to avoid, which is another cool feature.
Nice risk/reward/rpg elements with spending earned blood droplets for bonii/improvements
Tight fast little layout that packs a lot of stuff in.
Code is the big issue so hopefully it will improve. Stacked modes are very confusing and not explained well on screen.
Sanitarium mode can sort of take over the game and if you don't complete it you're just kind of slogging away.
LED strips, even turned all the way down, can wash out some if the smaller inserts.
House attack csn seem to go one forever, or end really quick...might need to test the spinner up there.
Right orbit can be tuff and if its the last shot you're stuck; but thats pinball.

At the end the Spinner was an issue, needed to be tweaked.
Since then having issues back and forth with upper flippers not working. Usually just a simple double leaf adjustment on flippers.

#42 1 year ago

I haven't played HW yet, but I've got Ultraman & really enjoy it. I was worried before I got it, since some people act like these games give you cancer...but I've got over 200 games on it, and it brings a smile to my face when I play. Sure, it needs some code work, but it's not even remotely like what some of the negative reviewers are saying about it. I've got some of the recent Stern GOATS like JP Prem, GZ LE, and Rush LE...and I'm still playing my UM.

Ultraman is awesome, so few people have played it, and it gets compared to Godzilla for obvious reasons. But DAMN is it good!

I had people over today and when all 4 games going nobody can focus. I told them to stop back 3 at a time and we can play 4 player to really dive into the games and then they would see how special Halloween is and they'd understand more.

Got a CE yesterday and I am very impressed. Amazing game and integration of theme. Shoots like nothing I have owned and the lighting is like whoa! Great job Spooky!
