Anyone here with a series 900 Hakko can measure the diameter of the ceramic portion of the heater?

    4mm or .159"

OK. I purchased some tips (aftermarket) that measure 4.5mm and they aren't getting hot enough. I didn't know whether the issue was with the tips or the soldering iron. Seems to me the tip should slide over the ceramic heater with very little clearance (maybe just a few thousandths of an inch clearance).

The OEM tips fit pretty close. I have a couple Plato tips that fit pretty close. The MIC tips that I've tried had maybe a bit more clearance but not sloppy loose.

The hakko oem tips are the best soldering iron tips I’ve ever found. The hold up an extremely long time.
