I need some ceramic filters for my Hakko desolder gun.

What I found on Amazon took my breath away. I advised Amazon about this and nothing has been done so be careful before you hit the buy button.

20 filters on Amazon are priced at $1,080.62 !!!!

    https://www.amazon.com/Solder-Removal-Desolder-Chmbr-Filter/dp/B00HKJQZTE/ref=sr_1_fkmrnull_3

I kept searching and found the filters at Home Depot. For delivery to a local Home Depot only unless you want to get ripped by shipping.

    10 filters cost $9.09.

    And it continues.

Tip cleaners: Bargain price of $109.00

    https://www.amazon.com/Metcal-AC-TC-P-Desoldering-Hand-piece-0-50-1-65mm/dp/B00C6AST0A/ref=sr_1_fkmr0_1

And any old welding tip cleaner will do for $10.00 or less.

    Quoted from ForceFlow:

Maybe a decimal point in the wrong spot?
    I reported the listing.

Good Luck. I had an online chat with an Amazon rep who promised me it would be corrected "tomorrow". That was 3 days ago.

    Quoted from barakandl:

has anyone else noticed how the Hakko Japan filters are different than the Hakko USA ones are?
The USA ones come stamped out on a sheet, the Japan ones are loose and thicker. The Japan ones seem better

I did see the ones that are sheeted. I think the ones I have coming in are sheeted. I'll have to try and make a comparison.

This Hakko link shows both thicks and thins. Looks like I should be using thicks.

    Quoted from Completist:

I ordered a couple packs direct from American Hakko when i was ordering a replacement back holder for my 301. Part #A5044 $9.87 for a 10 pack with free shipping. I never even considered Home Depot in my search. Good to know!

I Googled "Hakko desolder filters" and Home Depot floated to the top. I assume HD is paying Google extra for top placement.

    Quoted from barakandl:

the part number has changed but it still looks like the Hakko made in Japan ones are the better type.

I looked at those but it did not say A1033 filters were for the 808. So, now I am confused (as I always am).

"Large ceramic paper filters to protect pump from flux vapors - set of 10

    For the following desolder tools:

    471, 700, 702, 703, 706, & 707".

I'm learning a lot here. Mine was a refurb unit and did not come with instructions. It came with cleaning rods, one tip, and two filters. I bought the other tip I needed. Only today I find out the proper place for the filter; I have just been pushing the filter into the back of the filter pipe. I thought there is not much protection for the filter so I added some mesh in front of the filter to catch the solder.

I first tried the mesh with by cutting a small piece from my tip cleaner mesh. That worked at catching globs of solder but tip cleaning mesh is not cheap. So, I went to the dollar store and bought some cheap copper brillo dish scratchers.

I don't know how much this helps the filter because from first use I stuffed in some mesh. And I just installed my 2nd filter a couple of days ago. but the mesh sure stops the solder.

My desolder filters have arrived. I realize a shipping company has to find the optimal size boxes for shipping all sizes of inventory. Amazon has some sort of formula to minimize the number of different size boxes used for shipping. I don't know if the Hakko/Home Depot has that formula worked out yet.

I bought from Home Depot but it looks like Hakko drop shipped my filters. This package was shipped with "free shipping" but I'm sure I have had to pay for this shipping somewhere. And I hate paying to ship air.

My filters are in here. Waaaay down in the bottom. I would think a mail envelope would be cheaper and more efficient.

These are the Made in USA filters. And they are nice and thick.

EDIT: I sent an Amazon PM to the people who had the filters priced in excess on $1000.00 and asked the reason for the astronomical price and was wondering if they were made of gold. I got a reply saying it was a pricing error. And now the Amazon link says they are currently not available.

I stumbled onto Hakko's USA website.

This is the placed to go to buy repair and replacement parts for your Hakko Tools.
