has anyone else noticed how the Hakko Japan filters are different than the Hakko USA ones are?

The USA ones come stamped out on a sheet, the Japan ones are loose and thicker. The Japan ones seem better

the part number has changed but it still looks like the Hakko made in Japan ones are the better type.

    Quoted from cottonm4:

I looked at those but it did not say A1033 filters were for the 808. So, now I am confused (as I always am).
"Large ceramic paper filters to protect pump from flux vapors - set of 10
    For the following desolder tools:
    471, 700, 702, 703, 706, & 707".

both the japan and usa made A1033 used to share the same part number.... Hakko has changed it.

A1033 is what my Hakko 808 called per the part sheet it came with.

    from Hakko USA website
    A1033 Ceramic Filter (10-pack)
    FILTER,CERAMIC,10PK,FR-4101/4102/300,817/808/809/807

Note: This item is replaced with A5044.

Just wanted to mention I thought the Japan ones where better / got more usable life until they plugged shut from rosin flux residue and see if anyone else noticed this.

the pre filter thing should catch the solder and make it build up the tube. the ceramic /paper filter catches flux and any small bits that the pre filter does not catch. Without the proper filters the pump will get clogged up quick.

prefilter says discontinued, but you only really need one. You can clean it.
