Beautiful!!!
Quoted from clodpole:We spent Sunday with the Olympia Pinball Museum's new Mermaid Edition. It's very pretty, VERY smooth and plays nice.
Some people grouse about it being too blue. Well, those people don't know that the game changes color according to where you are in gameplay. Also, it does some cool stuff like sweep the playfield lights upward with the ball after it's plunged (like blue above the ball and red below - all moving in synch with the ball).
In attract mode and some gameplay modes, it does a very pretty modulation of all lights for an underwater effect.
Classic play seems true to the original Fathom, albeit with a Zamboni-smooth ice rink of a playfield. Revisited mode (I think that's what it's called) is interesting and not overly ornate. Also, the game has voices, but they're not overly chatty and the musical background is audible and very nice.
There probably will be some software updates coming, as this machine has a couple of little "features" to be improved. For example, upon losing the first of two multiball balls, the game would consider both balls drained and shut off the flippers.
Oh yeah, the cabinet is painted in reflective paint, so that in a dark room, light hitting the cabinet reflects back like it does from a highway sign at night.
