Short and sweet, this gathering was planned since late feb. for an upcoming sat. Our area is not in the hot zone and no reported cases, yet everything is shutting down.

Should I follow and cancel the party for the sake of safety?

Or will this be a much needed break to escape all the drama?

I'm completely 50:50 on it. I can see both sides.

I personally would cancel, I think everyone should take the side of caution, the faster people start isolating the faster life will return to normal.

    #3 79 days ago

I'd cancel. Better safe then sorry.

Don't know your location, but you can assume the virus is in your area. Talk to the guests and see how they feel if you need convincing.

    I'd cancel...

If you have to ask here, you already know the answer.

    #6 79 days ago

yes - it's the right thing to do
People can be carrying the virus up to 2 weeks without showing any symptoms
It would be selfish to have it

    #7 79 days ago

The main question is how many people will be attending? If it’s more than 10 then yes, cancel it for now.

People are dying, a worldwide pandemy is on hand, economical consequences are imminent. And you dare to ask this question? What's wrong with you?

Most of the hillbilly pennsyltucky people I work with still think it's no big deal, and we are still working away making non-essential products sold in big box stores 3 shifts a day. They are so brainwashed, they can't be changed. The one guy is mad he can't go to the diner to eat every meal like he usually does, and thinks this is all a ploy "to get socialism in". I shit you not.

Only one carrier is needed to infect everyone and spread the virus around. Our community is on total lockdown and panic because of a medical student returned from a trip and decide to attend a party and then go to church the next morning.

    #13 79 days ago

Do the other guests have games at home? Perhaps a livestream via one of the social media platforms , and you all are together still! Just a thought.

    #14 79 days ago

Yep cancel, things are about to get real bad. I'd avoid all unnecessary contact.

    #15 79 days ago

Yes definitely cancel. Even without reported cases, latest news say that also people with no symptoms yet are spreading the virus.

My son is turning 12 next week. He was planning a sleep over. That's all out the window. I'm going to let him stay up late gaming with his friends online (usually 8 oclock cut for electronics).

The entire planet is a “hot zone” now. Use your brain.

It's twice as contagious as H1N1, has a death rate 3.4% and in 1-2 months there will probably be stories in the media about deaths from this (apocalypse scenario - which is possible - discussions about producing and stockpiling body bags and storing bodies in arenas if it gets really bad).

How will you look back at your gathering at that time?

    #19 79 days ago

Cancel. At this point, it shouldn’t even be a question.

    #20 79 days ago

    Ummmmmmmm Duh

    That’s a great idea!

If it were me I'd tell my friends I am delaying it. You want to share your collection with them will gladly do so after some normalcy returns.

    Cancel.
    Stay home if you can.
Don't go out if you have to.
Don't make contact with other people.
    Play, clean, rebuild, your games.
Make a pinball competition with your inhouse family (wife kids).
Over 3 months everything is normal.

    I hope you're right.

As much as I dislike it, as of yesterday I stopped going to the gym, restaurants, etc.

It sounds like a joke, but its not. People out in the rural parts of Illinois think this way too. My brother in law lives out west and he says every person he works with in the factory think like this. Super scary shit.

CANCEL BRO. I am already thinking I wont be having my party in APRIL. I hope Im wrong.

I'm in somewhat rural Oswego, not too far from you. When Pritzker announced the closing of restaurants (dine-in at least), people in local Facebook groups were saying we all need to go out to eat Sunday and Monday while we can.

I told my wife...the most danger we face is the stupidity of others. So stupid.

People cant be bothered to change their lives to help a situation not get out of control. HOW DARE YOU!

This is why I said in another thread, Florida is going to get crushed, my cousin runs a restaurant down there and said they were still packing them in yesterday, insanity.

    Quoted from Fordiesel69:

From everything I've read and alot of data coming from Italy, if you are over 40 you are significantly more likely to die from the virus.

    So I would cancel.

    #35 79 days ago

Please cancel. If people don't, this issue will just extend longer, which none of us want.

Big picture... 1) flatten the curve to help save health care and the health care workers. We don't have enough hospital beds, if everyone gets sick at the same time.... and 2) buy us time. There are many brilliant people in the world. I'm hoping and praying a vaccine comes sooner than later.

    #36 79 days ago

These are extraordinary times. We all have to do our part to help despite the inconvenience. This includes helping everyone get back on their feet when this is over. Maybe this virus will bring back a sense of community to the world.

coworker cancelling her wedding on march 28th.. feel bad for her as not just the wedding but deposits and crap so financial hit as well.

shes thinking her, her fiance and just her/his parents go get married anyway and just get all the food and fill freezers to both not dick over the venue/caterer and get it over with vs waiting around/rescheduiling, etc

    Quoted from HarrieD:

People are dying, a worldwide pandemy is on hand, economical consequences are imminent. And you dare to ask this question? What's wrong with you?

Nothing is wrong with me. As previously stated, at the time of my post there is / was NO REPORTED CASES in my area, and that I remained at a 50:50 neutral ground. There is never anything wrong with someone asking a question, gathering opinions, and more importantly letting the facts roll in. If there was reported cases, the decision would never have been posted, it would have been canceled without hesitation.

You report your location as being in the netherlands, so you may have different info than I. For 10+ years in my area, you need to understand the media adds huge mountains of drama over simple things. We are accustomed to massive overreactions on a daily basis. Im not downplaying this at all, it sounds very severe in the areas that are impacted. I guess we are very fortunate it has not gotten to our area (yet).

Rest easy, the event is canceled. However please clean up your forum etiquette.

    #44 79 days ago

Cancel it. We decided to cancel my son's 1 year birthday party which is in a few weeks. Better to be safe than sorry!

    Amen.

We should just go ahead and get him bronzed right now while the plating shops are still open and operational.

Quoting Ret. Gen Norman Schwarzkopf, we all know the right thing to do, the hard part is doing it. CANCEL!!

    #49 79 days ago

I would cancel. Even though the chance of any guest at an event that size in your area having it is infinitesimally small there is zero positive effect.

In other words- it might help to cancel and it can’t hurt to cancel.

    #50 79 days ago

Don't cancel... postpone. Until life is back to normal. And make it a huge party then... People will be 10x more willing to celebrate and eager to come. And they will understand. Now or later.
