Getting hyped

#1012 3 years ago

Man, I'm not a collector type, but had to drop a deposit on the CE. The artwork is insane on that version and the best of the 3 IMHO

#1013 3 years ago
Quoted from Blackjacker:

Cab art, sure. That modified 7-member AFD cross on the backbox, though... ugh.
And... "Appetite Purple?" Ah yes... all of the purple that the band imagery used in the Appetite era. WTF?
I could look past the CE art and powder color if there were something of substance added over the LE. But it seems like that's just the apron COMA ball lock. And I'm not paying $3K for a ball lock again.

Well it does have 600 RGB's so 250 more than the LE

#1023 3 years ago
Quoted from Blackjacker:

Right, but that's why I mentioned "substance." Under cab lighting, behind backbox lighting and topper lighting don't get the "substance" descriptor in my book.

Yeah totally understand, I was in on an LE from the beginning but the all round package is what did it for me, not one specific thing

#1051 3 years ago
Quoted from thechakapakuni:

What sold you on CE over LE besides the artwork? (Or was that it)

The Skull Shooter, The soundbar topper, the under and rear cab lighting, the extra 250+ RGB's, the COMA lock, The Action Bar addition art, The Original Banned art characters from the AFD album, sparkle in the Gibson headstock (I'm a Gibson nut )...just off the top of my head $3k worth...no but is anything, It's only money and I'm definitely not getting out of here alive

#1058 3 years ago
Quoted from PanzerFreak:

Whats the COMA lock on the CE?
I'm fine with JJP making non gameplay items (artwork, armor, topper, shooter rod, etc) unique to the CE but it would be a huge bummer in my opinion to see gameplay related items be reserved just for the CE. JJP hasn't done that before.

That's what K man is referring to it as, It's on the Apron and appears to be a physical ball lock

#1062 3 years ago
Quoted from thechakapakuni:

Did anybody get the clue this game has a camera to include you on the stage? I don’t see this anywhere mentioned in the specs

I heard that in the SDTM feature

#1063 3 years ago

The SDTM feature was very well done!!! Great video work

#1102 3 years ago
Quoted from jawjaw:

You guys see the proximity insert switches? Pretty cool.

I just saw those on the SDTM vid, very cool innovation

#1135 3 years ago
Quoted from delt31:

Not to plug my favorite Pinball game ever (alien) but the proximity switches were 1st done in heighway Pinball. That company was on to something. To bad it was so poorly managed.

Ah, I didn't know that

#1369 3 years ago
Quoted from Rockytop:

Anyone else think there will be more songs released at some point for this pin? (like Metallica had)
I don't want to get into a DLC debate about whether or not it should happen...I just think it will. There is a new song Guns has called "Hardschool", that Guns N Roses nerds (like me) know about. It's a bootleg and it's awesome. I would love for that to make it on the game at some point.
Here are the songs I wish the game had:
- Don't Damn Me
- Get in the Ring
- 14 years
- Back off Bitch
- The Breakdown
- Locomotive
- There was a Time
- IRS

I think it's more than just a song too. The SDTM vid mentions that each song has it's own rules. So what that means is a guess. Different shots, different LCD scoring, synced lightshow...could be done, would be great to see it implemented

#1564 3 years ago
Quoted from jawjaw:

Agreed. A little busy but fits the theme well. I see no reason to spend $3000 more to get the worst art and mostly cosmetic changes. I wonder if you can rig up your own soundbar on the LE.

Hey there, greetings from Kingwood, oh man have to disagree on the art though, it's subjective, but the use of the banned album character was genius, it was actually what I was hoping would be the LE art

#1583 3 years ago
Quoted from MikeS:

Does anyone know where the magnet is located on the game? Does the upper right flipper shot to the loop exit in the pops? I'm really looking forward to seeing a gameplay video to see if this game plays as good as it looks! From what I can see so far it looks like the first release from JJP that is a Grand Slam from the start! The only thing I'd question is why not make the CE's first? Seems like it would be smart to lock all of that money in right away vs. having to make them wait a few months.

I think, and this is just a guess there may be a magnet behind the AXL lanes at the top past the backstage pass

#1598 3 years ago
Quoted from Spelunk71:

How were the distros able to take deposits for CEs (and then say they are “sold out”) if they haven’t gotten allocation numbers yet? Could some CE preorders end up being cancelled?

I'm wondering if they had educated estimates based on their past JJP relationships and sales and were direct communicating their deposits and sales to JJP who, then compared inventory of direct sales and then issued cutoffs based on those firm orders of how many JJP could supply to them, versus distributors who had lists of potentials and still don't know how many they are getting. I don't know how all the behind the scenes stuff works...just a guess, but I'm guessing their is a some distributor hierarchy / seniority system in place ???

#1620 3 years ago

I think code is going to go a long way here from what I tell this game has a guitar hero feel to it especially getting bood off stage if you can't keep that spinner going... Then the lights go out and the flippers die ...That's some pressure right there.. also trapping the ball lowers your rock meter so I think there's going to be a lot of interaction with the main LCD unlike other games we've seen

#1944 3 years ago
Quoted from iceman44:

“Due to serious abuse by a few, we will be holding firm to our deposit refund policy on CE's & LE's. Deposits and Payments on CE's & LE's are NON refundable! They also per JJP's new policy non transferable to other games or other models. “
That’s JJ Game Exchange
Says it all right there
Making people pay in full would cut out that BS from day one
On a game like GNR which is in demand, gotta do it

Just saw this on the Facebook site though for Game Exchange, looks like they may be forced to doing refunds:

Well.. Got the call we were worried about all day.. JJP is WAY oversold and is making cuts across the board to dealers.. Sadly we are going to have to refund and cancel some Guns and Roses CE orders. We will be working on the list tomorrow and contacting each person cut personally.. This being said.. If you have more than one order somewhere or you have decided you do not want the game please reach out to us.. We are trying to make sure anyone who wants one can get one.. But if you have orders in for more than one you will only get one. JJP has requested our list of sales and will be comparing them.. So please if you ordered more than one or from multiple dealers please let someone else have your spot. If you have any questions please reach out to us personally.. We do not know who is in or out yet, we want to see if anyone back out or is double ordered with JJP's checking orders before we make the cuts.

That was the joke, but no one found it funny...except for me i guess.

Too soon after losing my CE

#2503 3 years ago

All I know is the modders could have a small goldmine in sales if they put some quality stuff out...

#2534 3 years ago
Quoted from kermit24:

I’m for sure not a hype guy on these forums. But this game is fucking incredible. Everyone who has been over to play it has been blown away. Play the game in person. Decide for yourself. Don’t rely on a stream.
For me, they nailed the concert experience. Nailed it.

This is my first JJP, so looking forward to it.

#2657 3 years ago
Quoted from Guinnesstime:

I'm not sure if you're a guitar player, if you are, you would recognize a broken Gibson headstock is more authentic.

I pride the dings in my real Guitar headstocks, and these are on $5000 Gibson's and the like....Badges of character. Posers pay good money for "authenticated wear" replica's of their guitar hero's go to axe's as well.

#2684 3 years ago
Quoted from ABE_FLIPS:

Anyone can explain to me why you enjoy Axl Rose? I never understood this.
A feminin looking and singing dude with rude attitude and the UGLIEST DANCE MOVES a man can do (side body wave!!!111).
Maybe its just me, but thats not what i want to see or hear when i listen to rock stuff.

If you have to ask, then it's not for you. Just like I don't listen to hiphop..Music is subjective. You either like it or not. When I hear GnR, I think of 1986 in highschool and they were the band to surpass all the glittery hair bands...You had Def Leppard and other amazing talent in those days, but along comes Gun's out of nowhere...raw, unpolished, straight up dirty old fashioned American Rock...it's really that simple.

#2686 3 years ago
Quoted from ABE_FLIPS:

I guess i'm dump to write that in a GnR thread , thx fooflighter for the insight. Since im younger and from europe it may just not be my taste.

Yep, no worries, it was jarring back in '86 and '87 when they hit the scene, which is why I think they broke out as big as they did. I can remember the first time I heard/saw Welcome to the Jungle...it was genre changing, just like Nirvana with Smells like Teen Spirit etc...just a moment captured in time that conjures up emotions and nostalgia which at face value is just songs, but delving deeper, each song represents a historical impact and story. Especially in formative years...my "Golden Age" of music is from 85-93, I'm 47 now, and the music sticks with you for life...and there are a lot of people my age, where a theme like GnR resonates deeply. Warts and all

#3326 3 years ago

These look like reflections of the sling rubber and the post grommet the rubber sits in reflecting down the post to me, I know your post was sarcastic, I'm just saying for the people that think they are seeing clear issues, same thing with that other pic someone posted...looks fine to me...it's even the same color blue reflection from the lighting...if it was a clear separation, it would stand in contrast with a more white opaque color...

Quoted from Valorguy:

Imagine trying to sneak in one of those VCR recorders from back in the day. They weighed about 10 pounds and were the size of a small suitcase.

But back in the day we actually watched concerts though, the new cell phone generation wants to "capture" it all rather than experience it all...sad

#3800 3 years ago

First LE I've seen for sale in possession

https://pinside.com/pinball/market/classifieds/ad/104318

Watching this one to see if the market values the immediate possession price hike versus taking on someone else's tax and shipping burden, nothing against the seller, if someone buys it, I guess technically the value of the LE's just went up

#3805 3 years ago
Quoted from Yelobird:

Just received my CE topper from Amazon! $55 and double the bass and watts. Now my LE is complete and I have the one thing I Did feel was needed to complete the package. Crank it up!
[quoted image]

Is there a setting on JJP pins where you can adjust the lower end frequencies to the sub versus the main speakers, like a crossover setting for 80Hz and below? Seems if I add the soundbar, only the upper end is getting put throught he soundbar

#3808 3 years ago
Quoted from Yelobird:

Using a Y splitter as someone already posted spilts the sound so both will fire. This particular unit (most probably do it) has an independent control for base amp and treble control. Will see soon!

Far cry? Its a sound bar with a PVC plastic sign in front of it? I suspect there will be many topper sign options in no time as well as toppers but for me this will do just fine.

But I'm assuming the Y splitter off the sound board is for the main speakers and the soundbar and would just be the upper end frequencies where the sub would need to run off a tap from the sub...So I'm guessing the topper is going to boost the mid range and high end only, so BASS from a soundbar really isn't the spec to be focused on when picking one up. Be curious to see what it sounds like for you.

Added: from the manual, it looks like the backbox only supports the tweeters and midrange and the lower freqs are all taken on by the cabinet sub

anyone with LE access, are there equalizer sound settings that show the limits of the range the midrange goes down to...

Quoted from Sako-TRG:

Look forward to feedback on sound improvement and how you hook it up please.

y splitter off soundboard PCB, then 3.5 cable to aux port on new soundbar and existing cable to other y split ... sounds like any low end sub duty will work by tapping off the cabinet sub with alligator clips or reflow the solder to new wires for a 2nd external sub...

#3849 3 years ago
Quoted from Sako-TRG:

Am I right in saying the way the CE is setup, it’s only using the 3.5mm jack that’s connected for certain sound output using sound-bar but the hookup you describe is best way to go for Audio experience?

I'm guessing that they have a soundboard PCB with audio out to take care of the mids and highs, judging from the manual, and that there is another line, (not sure on this as I don't have JJP experience) that is tapped for the LFE/Low end sub 80 Hz channel that's either hardwired or output somewhere like a subout, and there is something possibly in the sound drivers that breaks the 2.1 channel up to distribute the frequency ranges to their proper speaker component, possibly an equalizer or crossover of some sort.

I imagine what the topper soundbar is for is to boost vocal callout clarity within the high's ranges. Normal Rock music equalizer defaults usually result in dropping the mids and boosting the highs and lows to give that Wall of sound, deep rock (think Def Leppard, Guns N' Roses) .... So I'm, just guessing but I think using a topper soundbar with a boosted / amplified high and using a tap off the sub to give a dual sub (cancelling out dead zones ie, dual sub home theater setup) will give you the best, in your face sound from GnR

#3904 3 years ago
Quoted from andrewket:

I picked up a CE. I’m not yet sure which artwork I prefer, LE or CE. From the pictures, possibly LE, but video doesn’t capture the radcals and other differences very well, so I’ll wait to form an opinion.
For me one of the reasons to go CE which hasn’t been mentioned much here was the additional lighting. I haven’t seen any video yet (I don’t think it exists) but Eric said that they have created some very cool effects, and that they would sit in the dark with the pin and just watch the light show. The CE has 250 additional individually addressable LEDs. If they invested in the software, and all indication is that they did, it could be amazing.

It's only on the exterior lighting on the back of the backbox and underneath the cab... The playfield lighting for the LE and CE are identical

#3914 3 years ago
Quoted from brett:

Lior is already working on these mods. In my opinion, his are nicer than the manufacturer’s. This game will be incredible!

...and it's not even final paint yet, super impressed..this is taking all the sting out of the CE loss..just worried about the clear issue now

#3960 3 years ago

I just saw Game Exchange updated their LE's from 2-4 weeks special order to 6-12 weeks, and the SE's 4-6 weeks. Haven't heard anything officially yet though.

#4248 3 years ago

I'm not an engineer, but made this in 5 minutes in photoshop..why can't they develop a flange that sits under the playfield, secured from below and the post is actually part of the flange that goes through the post hole with a threaded center to screw down the plastics to (They could even polish or coat it to look pretty). It doesn't seem like rocket science and you'd never have a sling post (or anything that takes a pounding) ever touch the surface of the playfield again.

flange.jpgflange.jpg
#4265 3 years ago
Those are polycarb though, looks like the ones JJP included are soft flexible. Those might just expand the issue further out versus dissipating the force of contact

#4457 3 years ago

Good to hear!

#4492 3 years ago

I would guess they are using a flex washer to translate some of the downward force from the sling post to an angular force from the post hole outward versus a hard washer that would just spread the surface area of the force over a larger pooling area. Fix? Not really, more like a preventative maintenance workaround. But if it prevents the damage, then I'll take it. I would think though you are going to get a slight more sling post slop for the same torque amount. Clear washer would be better though for aesthetics

Quoted from Nemotheeskie:

I ordered an LE on 10/6 direct and got word today to expect it April/May. It’s going to be a long winter...lol.

Wow

#4844 3 years ago

I know people have said no new "process" is coming as it's already here and Mirco has said this..okay fine...but they obviously made a switch at some point based on the pinball expo vid. I'm just curious if the rollout of these initial playfields was part of the old process, so what we're seeing is the leftovers and haven't really seen anything new yet in terms of new LE clears that weren't sitting around for launch ...I have yet to see an SE chipping, only the 1st 100 LE's, granted they are shipping with washers but maybe that's just for extra precaution.... To admit there is a problem with the 1st hundred would be bad $$$...so a case by case basis is what is probably occurring. Eventually, I bet these issues go away with the CE and new LE's being built. That is my wishful thinking anyways

#4852 3 years ago

So hear me out..This isn't to suggest a solution but merely something more effective and attractive than a washer. Most of the pooling/chipping I have seen is coming from the inside of the lower sling post which seems to be taking the brunt of the force and compressing the playfield/chipping the clear in that area.

What about a plastic rail guard protector (I install these on all my games) that also doubles as a bridge to isolate and shore up the posts vertical position by sharing the load with the entire guard rail assembly and reducing the compression force of the iinner portion of the sling post?

I've come up with 3 options that could all effectively help...what do you guys think?

I've shaded them to highlight the variances. They could be clear in final design or even incorporate some color.

Again, I know there are other posts that pool and possibly chip, but this is going after the main culprit.

I'm trying to think worse case scenario here if the playfield issue can't be resolved or for those who wanrt some added protection without using washers.

Quoted from Sako-TRG:

I hate using the automobile comparison but when paint and clear is applied at the factory it’s done quite differently from say a bodyshop.
They apply using a static electrical charge - very minimal coat of paint and clear
- Better adhesion of paint and clear
- Reduces costs
- Minimum chipping of paint - stone chips etc....
Now most who has had their vehicle in for a respray at a auto bodyshop know this.
When they apply the paint and clear they cannot get the same factory fine application.
The paint and clear is applied much thicker.
It actually looks really good when you get it back.
I know this first hand.
I had a brand new vehicle that had all the panels damaged through hail storm.
Rather than have the vehicle insurance written off....
I had the approved garage, replace the panels with new panels and had them resprayed at the approved bodyshop.
Looked a million dollars when finished in pearlescent white
Deeper, glossier than a factory finish......
But...... when you got a stone ship on the bonnet! Boy did it chip!
That’s the difference, the thicker, deeper the paint and clear, the bigger the chip compared to the thin factory finish.
Any professional body resprayed expert will tell you this is normally the case.
So when buying a used vehicle, big chips on the hood are indicative of a respray.
Small chips = factory finish.

Not sure I agree with the analiogy. I just used a body shop for a Honda pilot and they have rave reviews around our area. They applied what looked to be a perfect match, same paint and clear as factory. It can be done, I paid a little more than I would have at Joe Shmoe down the road.

Quoted from gliebig:

Wouldn't the replacement unpopulated playfield have just as good a chance of having shit clearcoat? Boy, I'd love to go through that swap process just to have the same issue arise.

Exactly! Garbage in garbage out

Quoted from Skyemont:

Good question. I know you can inspect the box but what about the goods inside the box?

That insurance claim would never pass...the shipping company would surely have issue if you marked the bill of lading form as a "shipping damage issue to the playfield" but upon investigation it was the content from the manufacturer that were faulty. I'm guessing they wouldn't honor the claim. You'd probably have to go through your distributor for a return. Plus as others said, they look great until you put a couple games on them

Quoted from pinchamp:

Just joined the club. My spinning record has some wrinkles around the hit bumper on it. Doesn’t seem like a big deal but for sure lacking a little QC and special attention. Whatever it’s fine.
I did notice after doing the delta upgrade from 1.14 to 1.16 if I lose all the balls while still in a song mode the ball ends and then shoots a ball into the trough, auto launches into the playfield and drains before starting the next ball.
Didn’t do that on 1.14 so I wonder if I need to do a full install and maybe that is a glitch with the delta upgrade or what’s going on here. It’s super annoying.[quoted image]

Are you sure that's not a protective film on the album ? Don't have my game yet but that sure looks like it's removable

#5492 3 years ago
Quoted from pinchamp:

I looked and no it does not look like a protective film. Perhaps someone can correct me but trying to peel off looks like it could end in even greater catastrophe

Sorry, thought it was worth a chance, man from the cabinets to the spinning disc.. Someone is really dropping the ball at JJP with sticker and vinyl application...

#5516 3 years ago

I started with Superbands when I was new to pinball. Switched to Titans now. Much more like true rubber, way easier to clean and durable. Superbands look cooler with their gel like transparency, but they are just too hard, put undue stress on posts ...and indirectly the playfield, and boost the shot power which actually changes gameplay, and not in a good way. They're perfect for routed games for lack of replacement but for the home collector/player...Translucent Tinans all day long.
