This was my first Pinball and I'd rather sell my left nut than this machine. I'd like to improve it somewhat as I've done LED's/Cliffy/Red DMD

Has anyone added a speaker kit & would this be the one to add?

ebay.com link: Pinball Pro Speaker kit for Data East Guns N Roses Tommy pinball machine

#439 8 years ago
Quoted from rockrand:

Have you done the pinbits light sign mod and add a slash over the top lanes ,I also added mirror blades. fun game.i plugged it into a external sub, sounds so good that I did not upgrade the speakers but it could only help

That's the lighted sign that says Gun n' Roses in red? No & I didn't want to pay $200 for a McFarlane Slash. Mirror Blades are on the cards though, there is a guy locally for me who does Stern ones which will fit GNR

#445 8 years ago

Very funny people
Both nuts and the pinball are staying with me

Here is mine, complete with original topper and I have the Prototype Translite framed next to it (It's a good copy of the original prototype)

* LED OCD and EnerGI Maestro boards
* Upgraded magnet board from Great Lakes Modular

I'd like to hear a bit more about these 2

#491 8 years ago

Just ordered the GNR color DMD, will post pics once it arrives down under!

#497 8 years ago
Quoted from Blackjacker:

LED OCD: eliminate "strobing/ghosting," mimic incandescent fade, control brightness and other tricks, for your controlled lights (inserts).
See: https://pinside.com/pinball/forum/topic/led-ocd-advanced-lamp-controller-shipping-with-wait-list
EnerGI Maestro: set max/min brightness for GI lamps, adjust speed of the fade out/in of the lamps when the game flashes the GI and, I think best of all, eliminate the relay clicking when the GI is flipped on/off.
See: https://pinside.com/pinball/forum/topic/led-gi-smoother-for-data-east
GLM's revised magnet board: http://www.greatlakesmodular.com/index.html?http://www.greatlakesmodular.com/products/pinball/stnmcb.html

Mate, thanks a bunch - the magnet board looks like a must to me!

Can anyone please tell me what it's supposed to look like near the Duff plastic under the top flipper?

Mine looks like this with 3 extra holes & 2 larger holes under the plastic itself which needs replacing if anyone can point me in the right direction?

I’m thinking of buying this speaker kit that’s on eBay https://m.ebay.com.au/itm/Pinball-Pro-Speaker-kit-for-Data-East-Guns-N-Roses-Tommy-pinball-machine-/263813834756
but I want to keep the original music so not interested in pinsound. Has anyone installed these speakers into their game and is it a worthwhile exercise?

Both. The style that feeds the upper flipper is Rev 3, the chrome style launch ramp that feeds the rollovers is Rv 2.

I’ve had this machine for 10 years and did not know that. Is there one that’s preferred or one that is more common?
Mine feeds the pop bumpers.

Just received these custom side rails in raw metal ready for powdercoating. Not sure whether I go black and then paint the cabinet under the logo in red or leave the cabinet black and do the rails in red.
Or a completely different colour?
Thoughts from the group?

I have to have everything GNR so if JJ do one then I’ll have to get it. I kinda hope they don’t as my back pocket will hate me!

Does anyone sell an alternative to the black portion of the gun handle? Or even new versions of the original black?

There is one screw in the grip and one in the gun. I’m guessing you can’t take the grips off without taking the entire gun housing a part, but I’m not sure? I’d rather not take everything a part if I don’t have to. Thanks for your help my friend.

I’m pretty certain you have to take the entire gun assembly off and then it splits in held with the removal of a couple of screws

Those side rails are great! Especially given most GnRs have a lot of wear on the side buttons. Are you going to make these available for sale? What would be nice would just be the end portion to cover the buttons only.

I didn’t make the side rails, they were done by an Australian supplier I use. Can’t see them selling into the USA as the cost to ship them would be astronomical

#2018 3 years ago
Quoted from mcuzz:

Had my GNR for a while now and would like to share what I have done to it, first the skill shot and snake pit lights were just turned around so they are not seen but the light shines through the plastic. Snake plastic was trimmed a bit, might add some teeth (if anyone has suggestions share) Slash mcfarlane figure and amps were installed. Mystery scoop light relocated to under the scoop (I used blue but I think a color changer would look good as well) The skull at the right orbit is always lit so I put a color changer under it, skull looks good changing colors all the time. Removed the left 2 spotlights at the top of the playfield and relocated them to the tops of the slings for more light on the middle of the playfield instead. Painted the silver gun holder black to match the cab.
If you have a pinsoundboard I would like to share 2 pinsound mixes I have worked on.
If you don't have one, buy one they are amazing and really transform this game.
First one Is GNR's greatest hits, all the best songs mixed to be loud and compressive of the band we all know. welcome to the jungle is always the song for ball one and many other songs have been used for everything else.
Second one Is a Sound city 1986 mix, In 1986 the band recorded demos of what would become most of Appetite for destruction. Only songs from these recordings were used here, all crowd sounds were removed from sound effects because in 1986 there were very small or no crowds. Also sweet child of mine and coma were not recorded yet so I had to get creative with the mode start clip and coma mode. Again welcome to the jungle is always ball one and all other sound city songs are used somewhere in the game.

Is there a mix with just the original soundtrack for the game? I just bought a pinsound and would want that option

#2058 3 years ago
Quoted from mozach:

He probably has. It takes forever to get approved. I’ve had one pending for a couple of months.

How do you get approved? I've been waiting too so have a GNR pinsound and nothing to put on it

#2062 3 years ago
Quoted from mozach:

I meant when you submit a mix to the community board, they need to be approved and that can take forever. If you're just looking for a mix to put on your board, there shouldn't be a wait. Just go to pinsound-community.org and create an account. There's a download tab with all the mixes by game. There are about 10 on there for GNR including the original.

Okay, I have an account and see the Guns n Roses options, total newbie question but how do I listen to them to see which I'd like on my machine?

#2072 3 years ago

I’m very close to finishing my restoration and have 3 sets of wires that I’m unsure of location
1 - wires from Mystery is Lit light at Axl hole
2 - Green/White wire potentially slingshot?
3 - 2 long black wires from rear (look like the pop bumper light wires
Can anyone help with pics of these areas under their machine?

#2093 3 years ago

Can anyone tell me what music plays during Ramp Millions? Doing the pinsound and I don’t see a folder with that tune in it so nothing plays during the mode

#2096 3 years ago
Quoted from mozach:

I'm not sure what originally plays, but in my pinsound folders, the folder is called '1432595207 - GNR Mission'.

Thanks I’ll check that out, I don’t think I have that folder name though, doesn’t ring a bell

#2099 3 years ago
Quoted from Blackjacker:

If the folder is missing, you can simply make a new one, just be sure the folder name starts with 1432595207
In the original mix, the folder was 000050-press_fire (new format 1432595207-press_fire) and the file was press_fi__LEGACY.wav, which was an instrumental version of "Ain't Goin' Down"

I also used one of the others and added to it. Created an folder for that and now the guitar solo from November Rain plays during ramp millions! My only issue now is the volume. I have to crank it up to hear it. The diagnostic says volume of 23 at the pedometer when it’s fully turned up. I unplug CN3 and it goes up to 100. Any thoughts?

#2115 3 years ago

Question for those with pinsound, how do I get the pedometer volume on the diagnostics above 23? If I unplug CN3 it automatically raises to 100. I have to crank up the volume on the pinsound board which then distorts it

#2117 3 years ago
Quoted from thechakapakuni:

If you are having volume issues you need to turn up the Pinsound EQ, Volume, etc on the Pinsound board. If it’s distorting I’m curious if you bought the power boost connector

Yes I have the Power Boost connector. Also have turned up the EQ to the 90's in volume just to get a decent sound

I recently picked up a GnR, it's an awesome machine. I'vd been changing some of the LEDs and got it looking great (to my taste).
I plan to get the pinSound and an Alt Backglass, but I'm holding off a few weeks.
Is there any must have mods out there?

I made 17 changes to the original stock machine (not counting leds)
1 - Colordmd
2 - CPR Backglass
3 - Vampire glass
4 - Lit up "Welcome to the jungle" plastic (all new plastics)
5 - Lit up snake green
6 - powdercoated wire forms in red and yellow
7 - side blades with AFD skull faces
8 - Slash figure in top mini orbit
9 - Custom side rails with GNR logo etched
10 - Transparent pop bumper body and caps with color changing leds
11 - Clearcoated playfield
12 - Titan rubbers throughout
13 - Cliffy on Axl hole
14 - Pinsound and upgraded speakers
15 - New G Ramp (original commonly broken)
16 - New cabinet decals
17 - GLM upgraded magnet board

Any of those 17 could be "must have" depending on condition of your machine

#2156 3 years ago
