I found a dodgy repair on the snake while stripping the playfield so had to give it a quick lick of paint.

I sanded and curved the head out which made it easier to repair. I've seen some photos of this done before and thought it looked better.
Added the fangs and 6V LED strip.

I turn the spotlights so they are not line of sight in my eyes. Looking at those will get annoying

Yeah I'm hearing ya. I have to build the playfield up first and then I'll reposition them.
Just wanted to figure out the location before doing it. I'll probably end up buying a new set of lights anyway. I have some less intense LEDs that will probably help. There'll be a lot more light through the playfield once I'm finished so they'll only be there for show really.

Can anyone tell me which is the correct leg type for this machine? Is it the smooth one or the one with the groove in it?
Thanks people!

These are original legs. The ridge starts much further down the leg from the bolts than the one in your picture.

Great - so neither the smooth legs or the Ridge I have on mine are correct lol

Yes the original legs start further down for the ridge ,that's what is on my also

#1710 3 years ago

My GnR legs are original: they're about 1" longer than B/W and the metal fold at the bottom, come to a point. B/W legs are rounded off.

You didn’t ask me but since there is no response yet I figure I’ll answer - a guy sells them on eBay - just search for “Guns N’ Roses pinball” and you will find them along with album cover stickers to replace the piano key drop targets . The DUFF targets are padded. I have a set but you really can’t see them. Honestly I’m prob the only person who’s ever noticed them in my machine

Need some help..

This may be the first problem I'm beyond my ability to fix with this game.

My kid was playing this morning for awhile just fine then came up and said the balls weren't coming into the shooter lane.

My 6 ball assembly lockout is not allowing balls to be sent to the shooter lane.

I have check all fuses and for corrosion on the holders. Wiring and connections on the PPB are solid. All other diagnostic tests besides that coil are testing fine. I can physically move the plunger on the assembly without any obstruction. The ball through switches are testing fine too.

Ohms on the coil are coming back at 10. Coils all look original throughout the game, or had been serviced quite a while ago. Stock 25-1240 is in the ball lock. Where else, and how, can I test or should be looking at?

Is it just time to start putting on new parts? I have a local guy, but not sure if they are presently doing house calls

#1713 3 years ago

Start with testing the coils in diagnostic mode from coin door switches. The display will tell you which coil is firing. You can scroll through all the coils & see if they are firing. John

#1714 3 years ago

Did that.... all but the ball lock coil are firing. Looking over the manual, I'm trying to find where the Q46 transistor is on the CPU

I even checked and replaced the flashers (1R x2) on the back corners. Cant get then to flash either, so I think I'm on the right path...

Just hoping I missed something else, simpler

#1715 3 years ago

Just read your post again. So the only coil not firing is the one in question? If it's not firing then I'd change it out & make sure you install new coil sleeve also, clean assembly with 50/50 alcohol/water mix.

#1716 3 years ago

Correct... both coil lock out 1L and back panel flashers 1R are not properly cycling in the test mode. Since they are on the same circuit, I'm leaning the problem is upstream of each component.

I have the full manual with electrical schematics, but I'm getting lost as to where on the CPU board everything ends up, Q46 is where the manual says, I just cant find it. Plus at this point I'm beyond my skill level for how deep I want to get into electric repair if board soldering is needed. I'm still hoping for a wiring dummy fix or corrosion removal.

#1717 3 years ago

Gotcha, I don't get into board repair either. It's usually something simple rather than chasing a board transistor.

#1718 3 years ago

Always check your fuses first.

#1719 3 years ago
Quoted from MRG:Always check your fuses first.

That was the first thing I checked. Fuse continuity and inspection of the holders

#1720 3 years ago

Lower left of the CPU will have a horizontal row on transistors. They are labeled so finding which is Q46 should be easy.
Unfortunately, you are more than likely looking at a problem that with involve desoldering and resoldering, as Q46 probably went open

Disregard the circled transistor, I just reused a generic imagine to show the location of the transistors

After a few hours with a local hobbyist on the phone, we trouble shot everything we could... it finally tested after reseating all the plugs. Not sure if we fixed what wasnt broken or just gave it a lifeline on old parts.

Either way I learned a lot today, and appreciate the help from a local. Have good ideas if it acts up again as well. Back to more screaming at Michelle.

Re-posting as problem persists. Right flipper is moving in slow motion. Have tried replacing the flipper board from my Tommy (problem persisted) and also replaced power board with an extra one (problem persisted). Previously, all the flippers were really strong, actually too strong and had to change the flipper rubbers to stop flying balls. Any ideas on other things to check? I was told to try a PIN-LED flipper board as this may resolve the problem.

Thanks for your help!

Yes, they are all the GnR replacement coils.

Settings question.
In free play is it possible to set the extra ball buy in?
I have it set on free play, buy in set to extra ball and limit at one, but it goes straight to match at end of ball 3. Either it’s not able to do this or I’m missing something. Checked the buy in button in switch test and it registers.

#1732 3 years ago

You can use buy in button at anytime during a game. Start a game, ball in shooter lane then press extra ball button. When game is over the display will tell you to buy in. Push extra ball button again & play the 4th ball. Good to go. John

#1733 3 years ago

Also, You can use buy in on ball 2 or 3 at anytime during the game, I don't use it unless I'm having a good game!

#1734 3 years ago

Thanks, will give it a go. Slightly different from WMS extra ball buy in

#1735 3 years ago

You don't have to program anything. Just leave it on free play.

Ok I had this happen too me years ago and I don't remember what it was now ,was it doing it before you changed the coils

#1737 3 years ago
Quoted from Williampinball:

I never replaced this coil, I only replaced the upper left. When I got the game, the problem flipper already had the upgraded coil installed. It was working fine for a couple months but has gone back to being very weak again.

Initially when I got the game, it had the same problem. What was happening was the auto plunger was causing the inside insert for the flipper button to become misaligned. So I increased the height of the mech by the flipper button on the inside to be further away and this seemed to fix the problem. There is no issue with misalignment anymore with the flipper button mech. I can attach some photos if that is helpful. Thanks.

Can you share the link and the model number of the boards you purchased? I thought I had previously looked for replacements (even though my boards work just fine) as a preemptive measure to maintain the machine working better for the long term.

I'm looking at selling my extra GNR translite signed by all band members except Axl. I have pictures with everyone of the members with the translite except Duff but have my picture with him after I had him sign both of my translites (I have one in my own machine which I did have Axl sign). Just wondering what going price would be as it's hard to put a number on it...
