To all the beginners out there just now exercising their 2nd amendment rights, PLEASE take some time to learn all about your new protection device, ALWAYS assume it is loaded and for the love of all that is holy, PRACTICE using it!!
EVERYONE in your home needs to know how to use it and know the basics of firearm safe handling practices.

Quoted from JodyG:

Lots of shit is talked on .40 S&W as a caliber these days, but that is basically the only caliber that you could readily get ammo for throughout the last gun run.

I have it on good authority this is also the smallest caliber the DEA is permitted to carry.

Quoted from JodyG:

So keep that in mind if you are buying your first gun today. Buy something you can get ammo for, then go shoot it. Shoot it a lot, and get good at it.

Quoted from Tomass:

Love getting the kids out to shoot!

Man that reminds me when I started letting my boys shoot. I had already instilled in them basic safe handling rules from early on. When they were between 12 and 14 I think, being huge modern warfare gamers they were very excited to shoot my AR. It ended up scaring the piss out of them and did not want to shoot again for several years. But it reinforced firearm safety at the same time.
They are older now and one is a gun nut, the other not at all. Still, glad I had that time with them and know if they encounter a firearm in the wild, they know how to handle themselves.
