Hard to beat a nice Ruger 10/22 for the money. Easy to customize into a great .22 target rifle.

Looks like all 5 of those nice grandfathered 15 rd mags for the P94 will have to be gone by next July (CA SB-1446 no commentary on this here, just making the observation).

Commentary might be that the list of names associated with the flood of California anti gun bills in 2016 have big "-D's" linked beside them.

The AR platform is about the most fun mod available. Limitless options.

Quoted from Kronlar:

On the AR side, my two rigs are both SBR with suppressors. 300BLK and 9MM.

Isn't the subsonic suppressed .300 fantastic! First time I loaded some I couldn't believe it. Totally no need for hearing protection. All you could hear was the action of the bolt and the bullet hitting the paper target. CRAZY!

Yes, there is replacement foam available. You can cut it to the size/shapes needed. Shop Amazon. Good selection and prices.

Quoted from DeathHimself:

Hence why when you do post never show serial numbers

If they are legal, why would that really matter? (honest question)
I can go in my local gun shops and write down serial numbers all day long.

#203 7 years ago
Quoted from Phantom1911:

But to go along with the ammo porn, here's some ammo making porn.

Nothing wrong with posting nice equipment! I use an RCBS progressive. Not as nice as that... (looks like a Dillon).
It's the only way you can make custom rounds. I can't buy subsonic .300 as well as I can make them on the press.
And for long range shooting... No way I can get the accuracy from my .300 Win Mag with off the shelf ammo that I can get with hand loads.
I used to hand load for IHMSA competition using a Thompson Center in 7mm TCU. Try to find that load at your local gun shop.

#204 7 years ago
Quoted from DeathHimself:

There are several reasons why you shouldn't publically have your serial number exposed in unsecured public access, pretty much the same why you wouldn't want your cars license plate exposed.
Yes you can write down all the serials from the FFL all you want, the same way you can go to a car dealership and write down all the vins you want of the cars you looked at. Once it's registered to you it's a total different story for your security reasons.

I understand concern. It's a real mixed bag of opinions. (Imagine that here on Pinside!!)
You can write down my license plate if you want, just catch me (or anyone else) on the road. I believe I even posted it on the Pinside Car Club thread! Here's the link!
https://pinside.com/pinball/forum/topic/pinside-car-club/page/9
Go online and you can get gun serial numbers by the boat load on about any gun auction site.
I may be just waiting for the fall or maybe I'm just now too old to worry about it.

#207 7 years ago
Quoted from Kronlar:

A couple of the main reasons not to post serials were always 1) not wanting govt to tie the number to you if it wasn't already, and 2) people turning in the number to their police dept as stolen. They could then say they saw you posting it for sale and you lose it if you can't provide proof of purchase.
I always thought both were pretty far fetched scenarios, but those are a couple of the reasons used regularly.

Absolutely agree with both points if they apply.
1- Don't post a serial number if you haven't had it registered to you through the ATF.
2- Ditto the above reason

Quoted from woody24:

Anyone have any experience with places milling a sight onto a gun? I've got a Colt Mustang Pocketlite, but the front sight is CNC'd with the slide. The rear sight is a dovetail sight. Just curious if I want to go through the trouble and money to have someone add a dovetail to the front sight.

Great little gun. Personally with a small pocket gun and the likely distance to target (pretty darn close), I'd leave the front sight as-is.

My pocket carry is the similar P938. Although it has a dove tailed front sight, I've not yet found the need to adjust it.

Yep, I have a bunch of those too. But for the price, you can't beat these old beat up rusty Russian mags from the local gun show

But isnt' there a tax stamp/fee involved? Something like $200/$300? Someone at the range told me to pick up the fore-arm brace for ~$125 as it will help with your accuracy

Yes, $200 tax stamp and months of waiting. The braces work great for that added bit of accuracy. @_@

Wolf is shit, no doubt, (again, I bought it as a young man and didn't know better) but no ammo is going to fix that barrel. I can ship it, have an FFL you like? I'm not joking. Six magazines, Ruger stock, folding stock, the works.

I've heard complaints about the barrel getting hot and causing accuracy problems. I think that's probably why someone came up with the idea of adding a barrel stabilizer. (:

#333 6 years ago

The Beowulf is a fun round. I have a couple and a VERS 50 that makes it nice to shoot.

#335 6 years ago
Quoted from navajas:

I honestly used to be just like you man, every time someone came up with a legitimate criticism of my beloved 30 I had a list of excuses / explanation / mods / anecdotes with which to answer them. I was *this* close to sending this thing off to Accuracy Systems and dropping $1000+ to make it sweet before I came to my senses. Good money after bad.
I love the action, but that's why I have my Garand. Want my 30? It's yours. Just let me know.

Oh hell no, you're absolutely right. I don't like it that much! I just think it's a good gun for $600. Don't even know if the stabilizer bar really makes any difference but it was cheap and looks kinda cool. (:
What exactly was the issue with the gun other than considering it a piece of shit?

I agree 100% on the Garand. Absolute work of art.

#337 6 years ago
Quoted from Travish:

I paid $250. Great rifle.

I hope they lift the ban on historic firearms. It would be great to pickup more of these wonderful guns at nice prices. My first .30 carbine was around $150! I paid around $350 for my first Garand. Regret selling it and paid nearly $1k for my most recent one. I won't sell it again.

#346 6 years ago
Quoted from bronco-jon:

I really don't know enough about guns to know if they are the real deal or not. I have an opportunity to buy this Colt .45 only thing that worries me is not knowing if it's a real Colt 45 or not.
I have done some research on it and have mostly found out to watch out for fakes.
I have been reading up on some gun forums but don't really feel like creating an account just to ask questions when I already have one here and it seems like a few of you on here know your stuff about fire arms.
Is it possible to tell if this is a real Colt .45 just by the pics?
your help would be appreciated.

Have you tried plugging in the serial number and see what you get?
http://www.colt.com/Customer-Services/Serial-Number-Lookup

#348 6 years ago

Yeah, it will probably list several but I think one should be similar to what your firearm is. I have a first gen SAA 32 WCF. I forked out the money for a Colt letter tracing the gun to where it was originally shipped and sold. Pretty cool Colt can do that.

I think it would be worth your time to post on a Colt forum with folks that can probably answer your question with those pics you have.

Maybe give this guy an email. He makes nice custom grips. I bought a couple sets from him in Elk horn. The ones for my P938 are excellent, thin, and fit my small hands.

Anyone care to share their thoughts on "maintenance" plan. Looking through the safes the other day and realizing many are probably way overdue for a good lube job. I'd hate to see storage damage set in.

How often do you oil/grease in storage?

Safes have the good ol' thermal bars to help reduce moisture and dehumidifiers keep a good 50% or lower.

Quoted from navajas:

Do you just load them by hand? She can't do that either. To be honest, I really struggle. I feel like I'm missing something obvious or I'm just a semi-auto pussy.

Yeah, I load them in the clips by hand. The groove in the 45 ACP cart snaps in place with mod pressure. You can use a bench for leverage. Easier than loading most mags.

The tool slides over the spent cart and is removed with a twist. Falls into the tool.

I tend to load a bunch in one sitting. Kinda like loading up 500 rnds into Enbloc clips at a time.

Does this pic belong here or in the Bourbon thread? Gotta be a story I missed

LOL.. best part of the story is that nobody else in the house heard a 12 g.
30 minutes later... spackle baby spackle....

I was going to ask what that door did to p*** him off.

Same thing my car did to piss me off...
In the car wash... windows up.... BOOM

Trying to get motivated to shoot tomorrow afternoon. Being sick of the cheap range provided target holders or lack thereof; this afternoon I decided to take matters into my own hands at just under $21

Sweet!
What did you secure the top of the target with? Something to secure the bottom would be nice. The wind could turn it into a flag!

The closet Zombie shotgun that killed the door.

The Dillon looks like such an awesome machine. For years I've used RCBS stuff but with the progressive, the accuracy just wasn't there like I hear it is with the Dillon system.

I've ended up doing case prep, sizing and priming mostly separate from my progressive. I use a Charge Master for an exact powder measure and then do the final bullet seating / crimping in the progressive.

Bored Friday. Digging into the classics safe.
So badly would love to range the Remington 03-A3. It's reportedly "unissued" since the armory recondition as a sniper.
And it's nemesis.

Its an expensive setup, but there is definitely a major step up in quality and engineering to go with it.

Sweet!

Looks like more fun on the way. I just hope they never adjust that tax for inflation or I’m all done with class 3 toys

How my tax stamp check status ended up being and "attachment" blew my mind!
I knew I couldn't delete it fast enough.

I was hoping too but I went on pinside on a browser that I normally don't use and I still see them there. I can see them on my phone and laptop. Apparently these are 3 different attachments? Might not hurt to contact pinside admin at this point. I'm honestly not sure what a person could even do with that data tho. I'm not sure if that's for checking status with BCA/ATF.

LOL, yeah, it was nothing but NFA, $200 and cashed!

In the thread "pics", I just see 3 blank pics.

I guess it doesn't help that movies continue make them all sound whisper quiet.

Individual Form 4 about 7-8 mths.
Trust Form 4 about a year.
Covid is not going to help this.

My .300 BO, subsonic suppressed is creepily quiet!
But yes, most everything else it just saves your hearing.

Who went to Morgantown gun show this weekend? I went with my fat wife, her sister and husband. It was packed. 1/4 mile line to get inside and not much there. I was able to pick up another 1k of 9 but it was the last and crap.

Crazy prices right now. It's like the stock market. Wait and it'll calm down... unless....

Quoted from dmacy:

I’m only at 4500 rounds of 9 but wow nothing is reasonable right now!

People say, "why so many!"

15 round 9mm mags, go to the range and shoot 15 mags worth.

That's only 20 trips to the range..... Or one assault on Negan and the Saviors.

#1090 3 years ago
Quoted from dmacy:

I’m afraid of her! She is shooting my G48 but some of the shots are with her 365 XL.

Wives at the gun range is a good thing. From a "few" days ago.

It was a Daniel Defense upper with a Slide Fire stock.
Sadly the Slide Fire is gone.

How much per shot?

$2 at that time. $3 now. Certainly can go higher too.

Quoted from EJS:

Do you reload for that cal? I know they used to sell a lot of pulled bullets what were easy to find. I think some of them even had tracer powder at the base of them.

No. I figured I'll not shoot enough to make it worth the investment.
I do reload 50 Beowulf. That's an easy one.

#1111 3 years ago
Quoted from ralphs007:

Thanks, I'm going to check YouTube out ,to see if I'd be interested in building one.
I already watched a couple AR 15 videos, but nothing on building one.

EZ Peezee. Look at the Brownells videos for building your lower. The rest is really plug-n-play depending on what you want.

Sweet engraving! Surprised it would still be there.

#1125 3 years ago
Quoted from JodyG:

Well, their "clearance price" was MSRP. They had several others for about $400 over MSRP, so I guess that is why they are still there. Nonetheless, I am happy with the one I found. Ran 150 rounds through it at a neat little range near my family cabin. Costs a whopping $20 a year for a membership. Zero issues with factory ammo, as well as my reloads.

Taking the Barrett for it's first range trip tomorrow. My neighbors love me using their house for laser bore sighting.

My dad gave me one of the old bolt action 22 longs that I learned to shoot with when I was a kid.
The thing had just been sitting under his bed for the last 30 years and had a ton of flash rust on it.
Just finished cleaning it up. Pretty happy with how it turned out. Here’s a before and after.

That's excellent! What was your technique?

Can anybody recommend a good hearing protection?

From Amazon, you can get some excellent electronic noise protection. For general use, it works great.

If you are shooting big bore. Double protect with foam plugs plus ear muffs.
