I love ridiculous stuff like that! Last year I was bored and added some accessories to some priceless museum worthy archaic firearms, lol. The first one is an Aimpoint T2 attached to an original handgonne that was used in the Battle of Aljubarrota in Portugal on August 14, 1385!

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Aljubarrota

Next up is my long range rig (25 yard max effect), it's an original handgonne barrel from about 1400 in a reproduction wood tiller (ancient stock). This is exactly what SOCOM would have used half a millennium ago! Back then a PVS-22 would have quite literally been known as a "Wizard eye!" Lol

S&B 3-27x56 also fits a KAC SR16 11.5" Secret Service upper pretty well!

Just scored a legit Mk27 Mod 1 and I already had the correct Trijicon SU-291 on hand! I've never seen another Mk27 with SU-291 in private hands, so this could be the very first set-up like this with the real optic! The pistol also has the correct military UID laser engraving on the underside of the trigger guard. The box has the correct model number and a blue label.

I'm still looking for a glock Mk27 Mod 2 and I'd be willing to pay quite a bit to get one! I have another SU-291, so I'm halfway there already, lol.

20220519_221513 (resized).jpg20220519_221513 (resized).jpg

Top to bottom:
Mk15 Mod 1
Remington PSR
Mk13 Mod 7 (USMC)
Mk13 Mod 7 (SOCOM)
Mk13 Mod 5 (Stiller)
Mk13 Mod 5 (Remington)
Mk13 Mod 2
M40A5
M40A3
M40A3 (MARSOC)
M40A6
Remington CSR
IBA XM3

These are just the modern bolt action rifles I have, I'm still working on more Mk13's and M40xx's to add to the pile. All of these rifles are military sniper clones built to exact specs. Except the XM3, that's an actual USMC XM3 my platoon had in Iraq (got it from the CMP). There's some interesting history behind some of them (such as the Mk15 Mod 1 being 1 of 3 that was built using original M88 overrun receivers, the CSR is from the original run made by XTSP for Remington, the PSR is a prototype, etc.), but it would take too long to post here.

That’s an interesting product. My only concern is that it’s an air pistol. I’ve been into adult air rifles and pistols for over 30 years. I’d worry about leakage during storage periods. It would really suck to need to use it and have low CO2. It might not work or barely operate.

#1765 1 year ago

Easy to type that on the internet, and I intend to agree.
But being involved in a real situation where I had to pull a firearm, your mind plays the situation over an over again and I am thankful I didn't have to shoot

Also Maryland... Not the worst, but there's 40 some other states that would be a better place to get caught in a self defense situation.

They don't puncture the CO2 while in storage, It does on the first pull of the trigger. I asked the same question at a gun show they were at.

Interesting.
I wonder if pellet guns that use Co2 will start incorporating this feature?
That was one of the things I hated the most about some of the pellet pistols I had as a kid.

So is Leupold generally the best choice for made in USA optics? anyone know some other bargains out there? C-More red dots seem like a reasonably priced choice for US made.

Good timing and question. Wife got herself a CMMG Resolute and we have one on the Banshee but looking for other recommended options.

Leupold is good, especially their Mark 5, Mark 6 and Mark 8 lines of scopes. There's a lot to choose from, they should have what you need. This is a great American company, but every now and then someone gets a lemon (they put out a lot of scopes, so it's bound to happen every now and then). It's too bad their custom shop is still shut down, it was awesome being able to get custom BDC turrets for various hunting and military clone build scopes. I'm currently using some of their Mark 8 CQBSS, Mark 6 and some of their older Mark 4's. Great scopes, but I prefer the turrets and other features from other brands.

When it come to the absolute best scopes made here in America, NightForce is the best you can get. Their ATACR scopes are spectacular! I've been using their scopes for over 20 years now and they're some of my favorites. In fact, I think I've owned around 50 of their scopes, only 1 of them was a civilian scope, all the rest are military used Mil-Spec scopes that have been DRMO'd. NightForce has come a very long way, their new BEAST and ATACR scopes are far superior to their old NXS line of scopes (which were fantastic for their time, but some were made in Japan). The glass and turrets on their ATACR scopes are perfect, they give Schmidt & Bender a serious run for their money. I highly recommend anything from NightForce, I'm currently using various ATACR's and NXS scopes on many rifles.

Another big name in American optics right now is Vortex. Their cheaper scope lines are made overseas (somewhere in southeast Asia, I can't remember where) and even their top of the line scopes are made in Japan. Here's what's interesting though, they take fully built Japanese scopes that are custom made to their exact specs, ship them to the US and then tear them apart. Vortex thrn installs American made parts that are more robust and higher quality then what the scopes were originally built with in Japan. They even grind and polish their own glass for the Gen 2 and Gen 3 scopes. There low-end scopes are hit or miss in quality (cheap and made in southeast Asia), but their high-end Gen 2 and Gen 3 scopes are excellent (although quite heavy). I'm currently using their Razor Gen 2 scopes on hunting rifles and M4A1 clones.

The last American scope company I'd like to mention is US Optics. Back in the day USO was quite innovative and you were able to custom order scopes with all sorts of features that no other companies were offering at the time. They were a true high-end custom rifle scope company. They even built scopes for other companies like Horus, these scopes were straight up USO, but had the other company's brand information on them. Over the years they sort of fell behind other companies when it came to updated features. They're very good scopes and it looks like they're making a comeback in the market. If you want a great quality American made scope, check out US Optics. I'm not using any USO branded scopes right now, but I am using a Horus branded scope that was made by USO.

Well, that's all I can think of off the top of my head this late at night, I'm probably forgetting something. You asked about Leupold and other American scope companies, so hopefully this gave you some insight into what available and how they compare to each other. There are always bargains out there, but not too many when it comes to the top of the line optics.

Are you looking at any type of scope in particular? What application are your going to be using the scope for? If you provide some more information we might be able to assist with some suggestions. I hope the information in this post is somewhat helpful.

Where do you find surplussed military scopes?
I didn’t know that about Vortex, I thought they were a US company that sold Asian built optics, that’s good to know. What kind of reticle do you find on the nightforce military scopes? If i ever get enough land to setup a longer distance range one of those christmas tree reticles seem like they might be really fun.

#1776 1 year ago

Nightforce and Vortex make excellent scopes but they are on the heavy side. The Leupold Mk6 is a fabulous optic and weighs a lot less.

#1777 1 year ago

I’ve got too many scatterguns, so I need to let some go. If anyone is looking, I’ll sell two for a very reasonable price. I’ll even ship for free. Both have factory boxes and all chokes. First (as pictured, more pics upon request) Caesar Guerini Summit Sporting Limited. 12ga 32” barrels. KickEez pad. Right palm swell. Second (pics on request) Beretta A303 Upland Special. Very rare. Extremely hard to find for sale. 20ga 24” English stock.

PM for details if interested

Can you give a good red dot recommendation for our 16” rifle CMMG resolute? The options are huge and we just want something middle of the road and honest.

#1779 1 year ago

Got some new accessories for the Browning 1919.
The cloth belts seem to be surplus and in really nice shape. There’s some foxing, but they look unused and all the text stamped on them is pretty readable. I almost don’t want to use them, but there’s no way I’m not going to run these at least a few times. I’ll probably wind up buying a couple more just to set aside with all the other parts and tools.
Gonna put the spade grip on this weekend and see how I like it.

Been real pleased with my SightMark R-spec reflex sight, and everyone I've let shoot loves it too. They have a few different models with different features and price ranges. Mine has 4 different reticles to choose from, 10 brightness levels, can switch easily between red and green, and also came with a quick connect for easy mounting.

I also just ordered a Vortex Micro 3X magnifier to put in front of it (should be here today or tomorrow), so looking forward to seeing how they work together.

Anybody else own a PS90 or P90?
If so, what kind of optics have you tried on it and how do you like them?
I tried a couple different optics I have sitting around the house and nothing seems right to me.
I really love the gun and how it shoots, but truly hate the stock iron sights on it.
The optics Ringsights makes specifically for this gun looks pretty good, but seem to be going for $700-$800 (worth it?). I would hate to spend that kind of money on a gun specific optic to find out I don’t like it any better than the stock iron sights.

We played sooooooo much Golden Eye back in the day. Best 4 player N64 game period. That’s exactly the reason I was interested in this gun when I bought it.
I totally have an affinity for guns I remember from movies and video games.

To be fair, my nephews would have been pre teens in the 90s. They absolutely loved shooting it, but had zero nostalgia for it.

Speaking of video game/movie guns (more specifically 007 guns).
Here’s one I bought a while back because I thought it was really cool in old Bond movies.
Armalite AR7 survival rifle.
Originally designed as a air force survival rifle, but made popular in From Russia With Love.
It cycles like shit (jams about every 3rd or 4th round), but really fun.
Its accurate as hell, just has cycling issues (at least mine does).
Haven’t shot one of the new Henry remakes, which looks really cool.

Interesting.
For the most part I like what Henry is putting out now. I bought one of their lever action 30-30s and think it’s really nice.
Maybe these things are just designed poorly.
For me the AR7 is more of a curio than anything else. Was hoping maybe they fixed some of the design flaws in the remake, but maybe not.

I've got one and it even has a Gen 1 or Gen 2 trigger pack in it. The Gen 1/2 trigger packs are worth a lot because...... reasons. Lol. I put an Aimpoint on mine, it's the perfect optic for these rifles!

On another note, I bought 9 silencers this week, lol. Here's the list:

SF FA762K
SF FA762SS
SF SOCOM RC1 5.55
Sig Mod X-9
Ops Inc 15th Model 5.56
2 x Allen Engineering AEM5's
2 x B&T VP9's

The 2 B&T silencers come with their VP9 pistol. I've always wanted a WWII Welrod pistol, but I don't even know if there are any in private collections, they're that rare. A few years ago B&T announced that they were going to be making a modern version of the Welrod, which they called the VP9 (not affiliated with H&K's VP9, completely different pistol). I could never find the B&T VP9, they were always out of stock, but I finally found one for sale this week! It took a few years to get and I still have a few months waiting for the stamps, but I'm extremely happy with this find! If you don't know what the B&T VP9 is, you can read about it here in this article:

https://www.recoilweb.com/bt-vp9-review-veterinary-pistol-163880.html

Did anyone else get anything exiting recently? Hopefully you guys have been able to find things that you've been searching for!

Did anyone else get anything exiting recently? Hopefully you guys have been able to find things that you've been searching for!

Whatever you do, don't ever send your PS90 back to FN for work. Rumor has it that it will likely come back with a Gen 3/4 trigger pack!

I've got one and it even has a Gen 1 or Gen 2 trigger pack in it. The Gen 1/2 trigger packs are worth a lot because...... reasons.

I didn't realize that.
I am sure mine is Gen 1 as it came with the original factory optics before they just stared shipping them with rails

On another note, I bought 9 silencers this week, lol. Here's the list:
SF FA762K
SF FA762SS
SF SOCOM RC1 5.55
Sig Mod X-9
Ops Inc 15th Model 5.56
2 x Allen Engineering AEM5's
2 x B&T VP9's

Yeah, I learned a little about the trigger packs a year or so ago at one of the local gun shows when I was still in the “thinking about getting one of these” mode. There were three at a local show and one guys was priced much higher than the other two. In retrospect I probably should have bought his, but wasn’t feeling confident enough at the time.

Here’s the two most interesting things I picked up lately. Sold a couple of pins to finance these.
Optics are on the way for the SCAR-20. Bought a really nice Vortex Razor to put on it.

What do you shoot with the first one? Prairie dogs? Groundhogs? Zombies at long range for sure!

Sweet, congrats.
A Dragunov has been on my wish list for a while.
Either that or a Romanian PSL as a “more affordable” substitute.
Always liked the broomhandle Mausers and Lugers as well.
Very cool stuff.

Mostly steel targets and watermelons and occasionally spaghetti squash.
Also pumpkins when they are in season.
