Spent some time building a backstop for my 300 yard target using some old telephone poles. I've been alternating shooting 'em with my .308 Ruger Precision Rifle and the .308 AR10. Only problem was when I'd forget to swap out the suppressor when not wearing ear protection. BOOM! ...and now my ears are ringing for the next hour.

It's fun to shoot some older guns too!

And no worries - just a rat snake - we like those.

Sample size of one but I have noticed my LGS (X-Ring supply) inventory of ARs is significantly bloated as of late. During 2020 they had 0, 1 or 2 in stock at any given time and they usually sold within a day or two of listing regardless of brand or price.

Checked today and they had 51 in stock which seems like a lot for a small shop, including multiples of commons like Ruger, S&W, Armalite.

Are you guys seeing supply outpacing demand in your area? Sales or reduced pricing?

#1510 2 years ago

Yes, picked up 2 optic ready Ar`S last week. Out the door $1002.00. Plenty of magazines fair prices, ammo still high.

Just found this thread and added to my favorites. Here is a small contribution, Smith and Wesson Model 19 .357 .

Firearms aren’t an issue for stocking around here. Haven’t been in awhile. My range I go to an hour south of the cites has buying caps of 1 box per cal per person per day. Kind of an eyebrow raiser for being out in the country.

Reloading components are even worse.

I visited a shop north of town yesterday. It was my first time at this shop. (Full metal armory) Just like you said. They had an entire rack of ARs. Close to 50. Ammo seemed plentiful. Plenty to choose from but still high, especially the hand gun ammo. $30 for a box of 9mm. I bought some 308 fmj for $17 a box.

All of the displays for rifles and shotguns were full. Even the handgun cases were stocked up. Which was surprising.

Bought a Hellcat and threw on a few mods. I like the idea of it having similarities to my Challenger Hellcat. Any thoughts?

Just started another AR15 build, this one is going to be a SEAL OG RECCE rifle, not a difficult build, but takes some rare parts. It's similar to a Mk12 Mod 1, but with a Lilja barrel and a different scope.

20210830_174909.jpg20210830_174909.jpg

My Mk12 uppers are almost complete, just need a couple more parts and then I get to work on the lowers. The SPR on the top is an original Special Forces 5th Group upper, the Mod 0 and Mod 1 below it are assembled from original parts. It's taken 2 or 3 years to get this far, these old parts are getting pretty difficult to find.

Anyone else on here cloning any rifles? If so, post them up!

Whats the plus part?

#1520 2 years ago
Quoted from Phat_Jay:

Whats the plus part?

Main differences is that it allows for higher capacity than the normal shield.
A few other differences like flat faced trigger rather than curved, modification to the sites etc.
I have medium to large sized hands and it fits my hands better with the wider grip.

The M40 series of rifles are my favorite! Post some pics of yours, I'd love to see them!

Here's my original M40, this was actually Major Dick Culver's rifle, I purchased it from his widow years ago. 55 years after it was made/issued, it still shoots under 1 MOA!

You probably win.

My attention getter used to be my 300 win mag outdoors. When I’d go with my coworker after I pulled the trigger he’d yell out “that is not a recreational caliber”

Indoors it was my 10mm loaded to the brim with Blue Dot

(Here you can’t fire much for rifles indoors since most indoor ranges are built mostly for pistol….probably because there are plenty of outdoor ranges around here)

I really need to start building M40A1's, it's the only rifle in the M40 series I don't have completed. I love the A1, its simplicity, clean lines and unique smear stock colors/patterns make it visually appealing. It's simplicity, ruggedness and precision/accuracy make it appealing for end users. I personally think the A1 is the epitome of a Marine Corps sniper rifle and can't wait to finally get some built! All of these stocks will eventually become M40A1 clones in different configurations. I'm pretty lucky to have these stocks, A1 smears are extremely difficult to come by these days.

Feeling a little discouraged about the pinball hobby after following the Banning auction the last couple days. Since I wasn’t spending my hobby money in the auction, decided to go on Gunbroaker for some “retail therapy”.

Ordered the newest version of the CZ Scorpion. I already have an EVO 3 S1 and really enjoy taking it out, so went ahead and ordered the EVO 3 S2.
Best price I found was $1,149.99 with no CC fees. Came out to $1268.94 after shipping and tax.

Should be fun to take out the dueling tree with both of them.
Now just need to decide how I want to accessorize it.
Anyhow, here’s a link if anybody is interested.

AR parts are getting cheap again. Maybe the ammo issue is lowering hardware demand.

My first upper in a very long time. And first 7.62x39.

#1546 2 years ago

Dang 7.62x39 can’t seem to get under 50c a round. I remember when cases were about $200

#1547 2 years ago

The only downside to the 7.62x39 ar is 223 rounds get stuck if you accidentally drop a bolt with the wrong mag. Just need to keep your friends aware of what’s on the table.

We don't see too many vintage sniper rifles in this thread, so I thought I'd throw a few up here. If any of you guys have some vintage snipers, please post them!

20210919_230659.jpg20210919_230659.jpg
20210919_231622.jpg20210919_231622.jpg

The first rifle is an original USMC 1903 A5 sniper and it's one of my favorite rifles. This one is completely original and is pretty close mint condition. Original A5 sniper rifles are exceedingly rare, only 3 or 4 others are known to still exist. This example is in great condition because it was made right after WW1 ended and was never used in combat. The other known rifles show heavy use, since they were used throughout the war. This rifle might have spent more time with the USMC shooting team, as opposed to being used in a sniper platoon (back then these accurate A5 rifles served both roles).

20210919_231059.jpg20210919_231059.jpg

Even though this rifle is pretty minty, there are a few spots on it that show some wear, with the most noticeable spot being around the front sight. There's a ton of old carbon caked on around the front sight because this rifle used to have a Maxim silencer mounted:

20210919_231740.jpg20210919_231740.jpg

The second rifle is a 1903A4 sniper, which is pretty common compared to the other 1903 sniper variants. I purchased this rifle years ago from the CMP because it was in original condition and hadn't been messed with. The small metal parts are blued (rebuilt parts were parkerized) and the Redfield scope base is still staked to the receiver. Most of the A4 sniper rifles had there scopes removed at some point (the DCM even started doing this after the assassination of JFK), but this rifle might be one of the lucky few that retained it's original M73B1. All in all, it's a pretty nice example of an A4 sniper rifle with CMP provenance.

20210919_231221.jpg20210919_231221.jpg

And here's something more modern, USMC XM3's! I had to move them out of the safe to get to the vintage stuff, so I used that opportunity to take a few photos of other cool guns, lol.
