Had a home invasion on Christmas morning, never thought it would happen to me.
Everybody is fine
Perp got into my garage, I was able to get him to leave somehow
He went down to my neighbor's house
I grabbed my gun and ran down there.
My neighbor was able to get him on the ground while I covered him with my firearm and removed the .45 from his waistband.
Picked up a Mossberg 590 today, 12g 20" barrel 8+1 at my local shop, probably overpriced at $479 out the door but they just don't seem to be on shelves anywhere. Also got 10 #00 rounds and then stopped at Cabela's where the only 3" shells they had were #3 birdshot so I figured wtf and grabbed 3 boxes. Obviously haven't had a chance to shoot it yet but it definitely feels light, comfortable and easy to wield. Thinking the ghost sights may take some getting used to but we shall see.
Oh and yes, I realize talking about at 5xx Mossberg is like posting about your 4cyl Toyota Camry on a racing forum but what can I say, it's my new gun!

Is it a 590A1? If so, the price is good, last time I looked they were up to around $1000 online
The 590 is a great shotgun, I have 2, an A1 model and a Mariner model.
My parents are in town and wanted to go break some clays in the desert.
My son friggin loves operating the pigeon launcher. I think he has more fun operating it then he does actually shooting. He loves to throw one out there just as you finish reloading to see if he can sneak one by you or not. Grandpa (my dad) shot clays for the first time in a few few years and did pretty darn good for being all rusty and dusty.
Yes, we brought a trash can and rake and cleaned up all the shells.
Always go home with more trash then you brought when shooting on public land.
Fun day with the family for sure.

I normally don’t do that much distance shooting beyond a few hundred yards. Mostly bolt action hunting rifles and such like Winchester model 70s.
My dad has been collecting pre 64 model 70s for more than 40 years and I recently picked up on adding to the collection where he left off trying to acquire the calibers he never found.
I really enjoy seeing your posts as what you collect is really interesting stuff thats a little out of my wheelhouse but really neat stuff.

What are those 2 scopes in the middle lower shelf with almost rectangular looking glass?

Now show us your box full of scope rings for all those
One of my least favorite things about shooting is getting all that lined up.
Quoted from Fulltilt:What are those 2 scopes in the middle lower shelf with almost rectangular looking glass?
Those are original 1970's era USMC used Redfield Widefield scopes, they're extremely rare, only about half a dozen are known to still exist.
The top 2 are the Widefield scopes:

Thanks! I enjoy sharing these awesome pieces of history! Here's some of my archaic firearms from the 1300's, 1400's and 1500's. These represent the genesis and early progression of firearms; without these, this forum thread wouldn't exist. The small handgonnes in the photo are the most important, they were used in the Battle of Aljubarrota on August 14, 1385. The only older European firearm (currently known to still exist) is the Loschult Gun, which was made in the 1330's.

Fantastic!!
I need advice. The Wilson combat 1911’s look awesome. My local shop has a tactical carry in .45 and a ACP in .45 The tactical looks sweet. Any thoughts on either or is there a model you would lean towards. TIA. I have a 1911 in 10mm 6” barrel and a .45 in 3.5 so I want a 5” in .45.
Added over 3 years ago:Ok I ended up with a classic 1911 WC with some customization. Pics when it comes home.
Thought I would share one of my recent auction purchases.
Pre 64 model 70 Winchester chambered in 22 hornet. According to Roger Rule’s book on pre 64 model 70 Winchesters, this one was made in 1952.
My dad has been collecting pre 64 model 70s for more than 40 years and I’ve started filling in the collection with calibers he never found. 22 hornet is one of the scarcer calibers in the series, although there are some that are really friggin rare.
This one is basically a small caliber high velocity varmint rifle.
It’s in beautiful shape.
Was really happy to get it.
Quoted from Coindork:Anybody else into archery as part of the target hobby?
Started building 3 of these today so I can practice at 30, 50 and 70 years.
Those are great! I've passed 30 and 50 but could sure use some 70 year models!

LOL, yeah fixed that typo.

Do you use a compound bow? I've only got a crossbow and wondered how those Yellow Jacket targets might do with a crossbow.
Quoted from Fulltilt:Do you use a compound bow? I've only got a crossbow and wondered how those Yellow Jacket targets might do with a crossbow.
Mostly I use a Mathews compound bow set to 50lbs. Although recently I picked up a pretty nice recurve bow, which I’m not very good with yet.
Trying to make sending a half dozen or so arrows down rage part of my morning coffee routine.
Clears the head in the morning.
Quoted from Fulltilt:Do you use a compound bow? I've only got a crossbow and wondered how those Yellow Jacket targets might do with a crossbow.
How do you like your crossbow?
I’ve been thinking about getting one and was looking at the models Browning puts out.
Quoted from Fulltilt:With the crossbow I keep losing bolts in the ground.
Is this next on the ban list??
Uh oh, a political post!

I picked up a big pile of rail road ties.
My intention is to build a wall/backstop with them so I’m not off chasing arrows on the back part of the property.
Quoted from Justin85:Couple fun targets i made from ar500 steel plates. The orange head swings back and forth, all the little red guys are hinged and connected to one long rod so when they fall down I can reset them.....
Sweet targets!
Unless hit with the 50 BMG.

Lol or my S@W 500 magnum

That’s awesome.
We picked up a dueling tree about a month ago and took it out over the holidays with my folks. Really friggin fun.

I love the dueling tree. My buddy has the six gong tree, so much fun seeing who can flip them all before the other guy flips them to your side
Quoted from Justin85:I love the dueling tree. My buddy has the six gong tree, so much fun seeing who can flip them all before the other guy flips them to your side
Yeah for sure.
Over the holidays was the first time I had ever used one.
On the drive home I told my wife that we should have bought one a long tine ago.
Quoted from Phat_Jay:Whats going on with prices lately!?
I haven’t looked recently as I’m not in the market. When you have a Henry lever for almost 4 years that’s never been fired it’s time to slow down on the buying haha.
However the best time to buy was 2019.
Had heard things going up, checked gunbroker and wow. Ammo and components especially. I thought pins were high.....
Quoted from boscokid:This is what $7.42 gets you at my LGS. Limit of 1.
Let me hook you up.
I got a case of IMI 5.56 green tip to trade for pinballs.
I just checked ammo briefly. $1.60 per round of 9mm. Course that’s fancy bullets. Target ammo non existent.
Quoted from Fulltilt:Let me hook you up.

Not kidding.... I'll even go 2 cases for the right machine.

A well fed belt fed keeps a clear head!
RUGER 6" standard barrel .22LR
Walnut Grips
Redfield 2.5X scope EER
My own scope mount I machined from 6061-T6 aluminum. B-Square now makes a much lighter version.
Bench resting at 25 yards I was able to hit staples !!!
I was a a gun range in San Antonio TX 1983. They had a rack of 4 targets on cardboard. Held on by regular staples. After I was done shooting my .357 I got out this Ruger. shot out the bullseyes.. And the last 3 shots took out the staples holding the top edge of the top 2 targets. Then a cease fire/target check was called. The range master offered to put up a fresh rack of targets since the top two came down. I told him they went down. He brought back the rack and asked where my 22 carbine was. I opened my gun case containing the Ruger and Colt Python.

This is my wife’s favorite thing to shoot.
We have a Mark I and a Mark II with a bull barrel. Been looking to buy her one of the newer Mark IVs in purple(her favorite color), but they are sold out everywhere and bringing way too much in online auctions at the moment.
Really fun and affordable guns to shoot.
