What do you guys think. Thanks, Dork .
Nice local private sale . A little high for my budget , but I also see where the market is going .

I really like Browning’s in general.
Lovely gun for shooting clays, dove etc.

If you go the over under route, you should experiment with different chokes for each barrel.
For instance whichever barrel you have set up to fire first use something like an improved cylinder choke so the your shot pattern is tighter close up. Then have the second barrel set up with either a modified or full choke so your patter is tighter further out.
If you shoot skeet it works out really well as the clays are flying away from you and the second clay will be at a further distance. Fun to experiment and see what combination of chokes works best for how you shoot.

Made it to the range today with these goodies. Pleased to find a load I like for 300 BLK and 9mm so now I’ll have something to reload these winter months.

Picked up a used Benelli 828U.
The gun itself is in really nice shape, but I swear the previous owner never cleaned it.
The barrel is really clean because it’s chrome plated, but the chokes were a mess. They are cleaning up nicely though.

Just picked up a new XDS Springfield Nine Mil. along with 200 rds man killers. Like this better than my Glock, feels better in my hand and the sites are awesome. Only other thing I want to get is a Remington 12guage like my brother has, his feels great, I have a Browning but it's on my list.

Wow good thing I got rounds with the gun cause I've been all over the place looking for more to use as practice and there are none to be had within a fifty mile radius. The only thing I found were 20 and 16 gauge shotgun shells. No handgun rds anywhere. Same I would guess everywhere????

My LGS posted 250 rounds of Remington 9MM for $106 and dudes were driving over an hour to get some. In person sales only, no reservations, limit of 1.

First time I have seen ammo mules standing in line lol

Southern MN has plenty of calibers for piston and rifle but you’ll pay for it.

I bought some steel cased 9mm earlier this year for $10 a box and kicked myself for awhile cause I try to avoid steel cased ammo....not feeling that way anymore.

Is the 50 BMG a tracer round?

#1215 7 months ago

Im sorry, my response was for a previous post where someone had a photo of using a pinball band on his clip on conceal holster, said no more worries of slipping out of his holster and not in the way at all.
I have a Springfield rifle with that very same marking on the barrell, oops . very close to the same marking Unfortunately it has a updated older stock on it along with a scope looks like it came from the 60s.
Any historic value you think? Buddy of mine gave it to me when he bought a new 700

My son has the hunting spirit and I may take him deer hunting this season. I need something that would work for a medium framed 9yo. I was leaning towards a .243. What do you guys recommend? I may go look at a couple of varieties of the Ruger American at a LGS tomorrow.

unless you want something special, I think I'd go 5,56... HE can customize till his heart desires and easy cheap reload.

Or give him the thrill of a remington 700 in .308. Limitless possibilities in loading.

#1230 6 months ago

The problem with .556 is that it is not legal in Indiana. Otherwise, we would be all set. I also have a .308 but it would kick too much for him right now. I want him to not be intimidated by the recoil.

I was having this very discussion this evening with my uncle who is an instructor for apprentice hunters. My son is also 9 (almost 10) and I had a couple concerns I was discussing with my uncle.
We discussed the recoil issue and he brought up the topic of mercury recoil suppressors. I’ve never used one of these before, but the science behind it is basic weight displacement and makes a lot of sense to me.

http://www.mercuryrecoil.com/

The second issue we discussed was that because my son is 9 his arms are not long enough to properly shoulder most of my rifles. I have a bolt action model 70 Winchester .308 that my dad started me hunting with when I was 11. It’s a light weight pack gun that’s quite compact. The stock is still a bit to big for my son and he has trouble shouldering it properly where he can barely get the tip of his finger on the trigger, so I haven’t had him shoot it yet. I’m going to try buying a second stock for it and having my gunsmith buddy cut it down to fit it for my boy and while he does install a mercury recoil suppressors in it and a heavy recoil pad.

An unfortunate item to consider these days is also ammo availability. For the time being, it can be a pain to get into new calibers.

I'm in the market for a pump action shotgun and/or a glock 9mm. Any recommendations or suggestions are appreciated. Feel free to pm as well.

I'm a big fan of the Remington 870 Express shotgun. A versatile gun, lots of modification capabilities, and affordable. Mossberg 500 is another popular one, I've never owned one but know people who swear by them.

Glock 17 is an an iconic handgun, can't go wrong with one of those. I recently got a Springfield XD 9, which is often compared to the Glock 17. So far I'm really liking it, and it was about $250 less than a Glock 17.

I’m a huge fan of Glock I have 4 of their models but yeah I picked up an XDm9 and I have to be honest I like it a bit more. That being said my newest Glock is only a Gen3 and Glock has stepped their game up since Gen3. Either or both are great in my opinion.

Another +1 to an 870 for your 12ga I got one of the first batches of their defense line of 870 years ago that came standard with a door breaching choke tube. It will pattern like an open cylinder. I think the main difference is the shorter barrel and longer magazine tube. They have a hammered finish too. For a small price you can get a longer barrel if you want to hunt or trap shoot. Or leave the barrel alone. I’ve shot the mossberg but never owned one. You will save some money and you will feel the difference in price. At the end of the day they will both go bang if that’s all you are worried about.

Looking for concealed? I'm really liking the G48. The 10 round mag limits it but went with Shield armor 15 and 20's so capacity is a stock G19.

Yeah I can honestly say my XD feels much better in my hand then any Glock I've handled

My sis in law just got a CZ 9mm. Forget which one but she really likes it so far. Seems like a lot of people are preferring them over the Glock's too especially with a lower price point.

Stopped by the local shop in town on the way home from work today and picked up a really nice vintage Browning B-80. Looked up the serial number on Brownings website and this one was made in 1980.
These were a pretty short lived model in the early to mid 80s that they only made for 7 or 8 years. It’s basically the same shotgun (with minor modifications) as the Beretta 300-303 series that was contract built by Beretta for Browning.
Don’t think it been used very much as it’s remarkably clean. The only issue is that the barrel is chambered for 3 inch mags only and does not have removable chokes.
Found a NOS barrel on gunbroker that’s chambered in 2 3/4 with invector chokes for $150 and jumped on it. The new barrel should make this a pretty sweet set up for clays or dove.

That looks like exactly what i need. Can you compare it to any other glock models, or do you just own the model 30?

G30 is a 45Auto - probably not 'exactly' what you need if you were looking at 9mm.

If you aren't planning on daily CC then the G17 and G19 make excellent choices, if you want something on your person when you go out the G43 or G48 would be better. I am much better shooting my G19 but wouldn't ever consider it for concealed carry - its nearly twice the size of the G43 which I can put in the front pocket of a pair of jeans.

As far as looks, the beauty (some would say ugly) of Glocks is they all look the same.

#1249 6 months ago

Glock 30 is slightly larger than a Glock 26 but holds 9+1 rounds of 45. I find it conceals well with a good holster like Crossbreed. I shoot it better than both 9mm and 40 in similar sized guns since its recoil is more of a push and I can double tap faster with it. Glock 43 is nice and small but only holds 7 rds of 9mm (if I remember correctly). I'd rather have more and bigger rounds for carry these days. For really small carry, I love the Sig 365 which is smaller than the Glock 26, on par with the Glock 43, but holds 10+1 9mm. Shoots well also. They are all good guns. You can't go wrong with any of them.

#1250 6 months ago

XD model2 is a great 9mm if that's what you're looking for. Pretty light weight and I like the safety features it has too.
