Quoted from boscokid:

NICS background check is so annoying. Went to pickup my Glock43 yesterday and got a 'Delayed' response. Whatever; I mean if I was gonna shoot somebody wouldn't I just use one of the guns I already have??
Store calls today and says they got the 'Proceed'. Great, so I can go back tomorrow and pick it up but damn, two trips within 24 hours when the actual check really didn't prove or disprove anything.
Semi-related. Anybody have experience with Maggut +2 which essentially changes the magazine spring and bottom plate to allow 2 extra rounds inside the OEM mag tube? Thinking going from 6+1 to 8+1 and only adding 1/4" probably worth it

At least you can buy a Glock!

I have nothing to contribute but some reloading porn. I've been shooting the hell out of 44 Mag lately...most fun I've had in a long time. Then I made a couple tweaks and loaded some 44 specials up. Going from full power 44 Mag loads to 44 Special makes the specials feel like a 22LR. Once everything is set up, I can run off a hundred rounds on the press in under 10 minutes....hand feeding the bullets. Reloading 44 mag runs about 22 cents around, as opposed to 88 cents a round for factory ammo right now.

If that takes quarters that’s a good deal on 9mm if it spits out a few rounds per crank.

Dead blood.
It’s for shooting vampires and cheaper than using silver.

Several companies cover their lead in polymer instead of copper. They actually function quite nicely. I’ve used Blue Bullets before and had good results. However I have way too many boxes with Xtreme plated as well as Precision Delta for my full loads.

Are those Ares bullets?
I have been using Ares in my .357 and they are very good.

#1160 3 years ago
Quoted from Gunnut40:

These are powder coated...supposedly it acts as a lubricant and helps with cutting down on leading in the barrel. Powder coating is easier to accomplish than plating or adding lube to the grooves.

Quoted from Coindork:

That is a pretty rare one...I am a big fan of 3rd gen S&W's, and I would love to happen across one of those some day. 1006, 4506 and 3913 are on my list to own some day when I come across them. Currently have a 4006, 5906, 4040PD, 4053

Quoted from Bundy:

Are those Ares bullets?

These are from S&S casting. There seems to be a ton of people out there casting bullets these days, but supplies are still tight. It took me a bit to find someone with .430" in stock...and I bought the last 500 they have. I have another 1k of blue ones coming from KC Bullets this week. Lead is cheap, but I would like to find some more cheaper jacketed de-milled projectiles like I occasionally find at American Reloading. The lead bullets should not be pushed over 1000-1200FPS (depending on hardness), where you can get 1500 or more out of jacketed versions. There is a definite difference in recoil between the two when loaded with the recommended charges.

I acquired it from my father who bought it NIB I'm guessing in the early 90s (maybe earlier).
He purchased it originally to use as a sidearm when he was hunting in the wilderness.
Basically he wanted something with stoping power in the event of a bear attack or something similar.
Needless to say it did not get used much before I got it, other than a few times at the range.

Pay attention to the ammo you buy...a lot of factory 10mm ammo is no more powerful than 40 S&W. Paul Harrell has a video showing his findings on this:

Fast forward to 5:12 if you don't want to see the boring part.

And if you have not watched Harrell videos before, I apologize in advance for the the rabbit hole I am sending you down, and for the productivity hit your day is about to have.

Thats actually really interesting to see that kind of disparity on factory loaded ammo.
Off to watch the 9mm vs .357 magnum video next.

I am impressed by the guns AND the safes... great collection. I finally built a walk in not too long ago and really enjoy getting to sit in there and view most of my firearm collection in organized displays. I find it really adds to the enjoyment my collection provides to me outside of the fun when shooting them.

Thanks guys! Ridiculous part is..... these aren't the only safes, lol. Just about everything in the pic is original - USMC used Gulf War Barretts, Major Dick Culver's M40, my sniper platoon's XM3 we used in Fallujah, etc. It would be awesome to have them on display instead of tucked away in safes. I recently finished up my prototype Remington MSR build:

Here's a raffle you guys might be interested in, there's only 2 days left to get tickets:

https://scoutsniper.org/contribute/2020-mk13mod7-rifle-raffle/

My friend and I donated the rifle, and 7 companies donated parts to make this raffle happen. I've been an SSA member for over a decade and they supported my platoon when we were in Iraq, so donating the rifle is my way of giving back to this amazing organization. 100% of the proceeds goes directly towards supporting Scout Snipers! We'll be drawing the raffle winner at 1800 Eastern Time this Saturday.

Bought several batches of tickets over the last few weeks for this and I cant wait for Saturday! For anyone who hasn't snagged any tickets yet it really does go to a great cause and a small price of investment in something that could be a massive payoff. The scope and trigger alone are unobtainable and will be worth a small fortune.

Honestly hope you win but what exactly does one do with a sniper rifle presuming you aren't in Afghanistan? Not trying to be glib and would probably be excited to hit a rodent at 600yards but still makes me wonder....

Picked up my G43 this week. Definitely seems like a gun you would look in to if you wanted something for CC. Feels like its half the size of my G19

But.........

The gun shop clerk asked if I also wanted a box of ammo.... since it's been hard to find I said 'sure'.

I have done drug deal that didn't seem this shady. Clerk looked left, looked right, looked left again then reached under the counter and discreetly slid a box of Sellier & Bellot into the bag and whispered $19.99. Happy to get a few more rounds to add to my stash but this is getting ridiculous.

I have had good experience with coated bullets, especially the ones from Ares.
You can push them faster than normal lead bullets without fouling the barrel and the accuracy is very good.

This is 10 shots from 50 yards fired from my Ruger GP100 on free hand, no Ransom rest used.
If so, the group would have been even tighter. This is my abilities limiting the bullet not the other way around.

Father in law has birthday coming up, so I went to look at getting him a new range bag. He basically carries his stuff around in a tackle box. Price was right on this Springfield XD-9 so I came home with something for myself too.

Picked up a vintage 1959 Browning A5 12 gauge yesterday.
My dad bought one of these new in 1962 with money he had saved up from his paper route (and he still has it).
My dads A5 was the first shotgun I had ever fired. We’ve shot a ton of clays with it when I was a kid and taken it out for Dove season quite a few times.
I have a newer A5 I currently use, but saw this for $550 and got all nostalgic and picked it up.

The winning ticket is 13201, congratulations to the winner! Thank you everyone who purchased tickets, this was an amazing event for the SSA!

Our next raffle with be March 17, 2021 for some type of M40 variant (we're still deciding which one). I'll let you guys know when that raffle starts!

This raffle went so well, I just committed to donating another rifle to the SSA for a future raffle! That donation will probably be in a year or 2, I need to gather parts and get something special built. I'm thinking about doing something vintage snipery.....

I don’t see why not. Hopefully O/U or any shotguns aren’t hard to find on the local level?

Quoted from EJS:

Buying new is no problem.
Finding a good price on nice used or vintage is a little harder.

That said, it depends on what sort of shop you go to. Some seem to specialize in tactical, home defense and sporting.
Hunting rifles and shotguns seem a bit less popular out here so not as much of a selection (especially used). Over Unders is a pretty specific crowd and not something that flys off the shelves so the selection can be limited (depending on the shop).

I don’t know if you guys have those down in Tuscon or not, but they have a really good selection of new over unders. Benelli, Beretta, Browning etc. Much better selection than most of the other shops I’ve seen.

Guessing this post belongs here.

Anybody have a good recommendation for a slingshot I can add to my bugout bag? Looking for a 'real' slingshot like we used in the 70s, not something made in China with cheap lasers and flashlights and other gimmicks. Something you can reliably pull back and kill a rabbit from 20 yards that the bands dont break every 10th pull would be nice.

Are you saying you didn't get a response from your background check? Maybe Arizona has a 30 day wait if they dont get 'Proceed" Regardless saying FU is probably the right move. I wouldn't buy a gun from a place that doesn't treat you like a customer, they aren't doing you a favor

Never purchased before, so I dont know. That's why I was asking . Most folks get approved in a short time .
As far as I know all my legal rights are in place.
And , yes, i never got ANY response to background check.

I got tired of waiting on Deeproot so I went out and bought a new 9mm Springfield Hellcat with an SMSc optic. Also bought a new Benelli Ethos 12 gauge and an original NIB never fired Winchester 9422 xtr lever action 22.
I have probably a couple thousand .223 casings that need to be impregnated if anyone cares to be the father I'll pay child support.

golfingdad1 : Many corporate dealers will not transfer unless they get a "proceed" response from NICS - not law, just company policy and some employees will believe this to be "law". The Gun Control Act allows (but does not require) a dealer to transfer if no response is received after three business days (gov business days - not calendar or dealer days). A lack of a deny or proceed is likely due to an incomplete disposition. EX: you get arrested for a potential prohibitor but there is no outcome like dismiss, not guilty, guilty, or some other piece of info is missing which prevents a final determination.

Arizona doesn’t have a 30 day waiting period. That guy has no idea what he’s talking about. Sound like he just moved here from California and doesn’t understand how it works here.

You should be able go into a store, they verify your ID right then and there and you walk out with your gun.
