It was another beautiful day at the range. I picked up a nice BYF 43 K98. It's accurate as hell - hitting good groupings at 100yrds with iron sights. The only downside for me was the recoil - that wood stock was smackin' my face pretty hard, so I put a cheek rest on it.

Oh, and that STG is a 22LR remake. For less than $300, I couldn't pass it up.

When I see a range report picture like that all I can think about is "glad I don't have to clean all those".

Haven't posted one in a while. Guess it's time.

One of the "sisters". Big sister in 30.06. Damn these things are heavy, solid steel. No wonder they were part of a 3 man crew.

LOL! I have since quit taking more than about 2.
With my OCD, I have to clean every single damn part when I get home.

What do 3 old psychiatrists look like at the range?

98s are pretty brutal. As my old man would say, "it rattles your teeth".

The .22 STG is a great shooter. One of the few times I actually rushed to buy something - back when they were new on the market and over $400.

I’ve got a new indoor range opening up here next week that will be just a few miles from my house. It will be run by local friends and acquaintances. It could become quite the regular place to hang out. It almost feels like a new barcade is opening up!

https://www.redriverrange.com/

I’ve got the itch to buy a new pistol. Here’s what I have.

S & W Bodyguard 380
Springfield XDM 9
Springfield XDS 9
Ruger SR 1911 Lightweight Commander
Ruger Mark IV 22lr

I’ve done the usual “best new pistols” searching etc.

What do you like?

Edit: I’m open to modding some of my guns instead of (who am I kidding) a new purchase. They are all stock. Suggestions?

#609 1 year ago
Quoted from Nevus:

Suggestions?

Yes, you need a revolver.

S&W mod 66 357 magnum. Couldn't go wrong.

SW model 66 like Fulltilt said or 586 /686. Everyone needs a classic revolver. One of my favorite revolvers is model 625 .45 cal

Or.... get a model 617 .22 cal if your going to be plinking at the range a lot.

Anyone have a vehicle lock box? I’ve just ordered this. I like that it only takes up half of my center console. A little pricey, but well made.

Damn it. Everytime I see a new post on this thread my first thought is don't look because I will see something else I need. I click on it and sure enough.

Y'all are a bad influence.

I picked up some 74 mags at the LGS yesterday.

20181110_082813 (resized).jpg
#618 1 year ago

Nice score. Is that a arm on the top and a leg on the bottom or is the leg on the top and a arm on the bottom?

Years ago "What a Country" had a ad and I bought about 7 or 8 new in the wrapper for $12 a piece. Should have bought every one they had.

About the same time I bought a all numbers matching, original barrel PSL kit, 5 mags and a pouch from TGI in Tennessee for $250. Just the mags are $75 each now.
A new batch of completed PSL's just came into the country, $2500 each.

You know the saying about hindsight being 20/20.

Hindsight 20/20 yep... Wish I had bought more 7N6 and bakelights, and other inexpensive com-block stuff when it was everywhere.

What? AK 74 mags?
Dang, do I need to start putting mags back in the safe again??!

74 mags are $45 not talking about tapco. No longer $12 or less than $100 for 7N6 by the case.

#622 1 year ago

I meant the PSL mags are $75.

When I got into 5.45 and ammo was still cheap by the crate I bought up enough to wear out all 3. Kind of a lifetime supply thing, ammo gone, rifles worn out.

#623 1 year ago

How about 5.56 Black Rain and Hot Pink mags? (:

A buddy brought over a pretty decent looking 6.5mm Arisaka. I've seen them on the rack at stores and at shows but they never had this here document to go with.....

Ruger revolvers are great. Wish I had never sold my .44 Blackhawk.

My Mini-30 is my only Ruger now. Some don't like the Mini-30 but I love it!

Sorry California.

Got a Franklin Arms binary. I have a Fostech and it should be interesting to compare.
I did decide on which lower to put it on..

Post your Christmas present to yourself... (:

#631 1 year ago

Plenty of large caliber stuff in the safe. After a while it hit me that my sons and I shoot more 22lr than anything else. So I decided to pick up a good ole 10/22 Ruger take down. Carbon barrel, trigger and a bunch of other upgrades. Neat part is the custom thumbhole stock wouldn't work with the barrel. After a lot of trail and error I was able to program my CNC for the job. It worked. This thing is a tack driver.

Top is a Feinwerkbau P11 10 meter olympic air pistol in 177 cal. A blast to shoot, even match ammo is cheap, and incredibly challenging plus it can be shot indoors and many people can find a 10 meter distance to shoot.
Bottom is my Wilson Combat 45.
